There is nothing to do in the ER unit but sleep, eat, read magazines that nurses had cut the “inappropriate” content out of, and do word searches. They put everyone in the ER unit no matter what you were there for, so I saw some of the more unstable people have episodes of screaming and violent behavior which made me feel unsafe. The staff treat you as if they don’t care one bit about you. I actually heard one of the nurses (a tall, African woman) talking to another and she word for word said “I don’t care what happens to these people when they get out of here” The staff seemed to treat us more like prisoners and just wanted us to lay down and sleep. I slept more in my time there then I ever have before. They gave me the wrong dosage of my medication. I told them I take Celexa 40mg. But then 3 days later a psychiatrist asked me why they had lowered my dosage to 20mg. I told them I had no idea they did that and that I was supposed to be on 40mg. That is very neglectful in my opinion.
