BestCare - Outpatient Treatment Focus:

Opiate Addiction

Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Alcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse treatment center has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person’s mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Rehab Services:

Psychotropic Medication

Psychotropic medications (aka psychodynamic medication) are any medicines used specifically to affect and/or alter a patient’s mind, emotions, and behaviors. Such psychiatric medicines are often used to change chemical levels in the brain that impact a person’s mood and behavior. These medications include mood stabilizers, antidepressants, anti-ADHD drugs, and anti-anxiety medications.

What does BestCare - Outpatient Treatment offer?

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

For individuals with high intensity addiction issues, they have an intensive outpatient treatment program that is 15 hours of A/D groups per week; not including individual sessions, recovery mentoring services, and mental health counseling. The focus of the Day Treatment program is on building recovery skills, relapse prevention skills, and how to build a clean/sober lifestyle. Recovery Mentoring services and Native American Peer Mentoring services are paired with treatment and counseling services. The Day Treatment program serves many clients with severe addiction issues who are stepping down from residential alcohol/drug treatment programs or awaiting referral to residential.

Outpatient (OP)

Retain your freedom while getting help, change non-healthy behavior and find new ways to cope with life pressures. Their outpatient treatment program serves as the first level of addiction treatment and is especially helpful for those who may be facing legal issues resulting from a DUII. It is also used as a follow-up and ongoing support after residential treatment. It typically involves a time commitment of approximately 5 hours (or less) a week.

Treatment Types:

Individualized Treatment

Matching treatment settings, programs and services to your unique issues is key to your success. What is a comfortable setting or effective treatment for one person may be uncomfortable for another. It is important to find an environment that feels right for you and a program broad enough in scope that it can be adapted to your unique needs. They’ve gone to great lengths to create and cultivate an environment that feels like a home should feel: safe, comfortable and familiar. They don’t offer “treatment in a box,” but instead offer a holistic, collaborative approach that places our entire support network at your fingertips.

12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex & Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Family Program

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Aftercare Support

There is much evidence to support that completion of a minimum 90 day aftercare is the best predictor of long term success in recovery. Therefore BestCare has adopted a process that starts early on in residential treatment to promote outpatient engagement and retention.

Therapies Offered:

Holistic Therapy

Because they offer a holistic, complete treatment based on each individual’s needs, they continually tailor their services to where you are in your recovery. Different levels of substance abuse treatment, mental health services, medical support and social support services are customized to provide you with the best possible care.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

BestCare - Outpatient Treatment Highlights:

Many people use alcohol and drugs as a form of pain management, doing more harm than good in the process. As part of their treatment plan, they introduce you to non-pharmacological approaches to pain management so you can develop a clean lifestyle that supports your long-term goals. Chronic pain can be managed without medication through our holistic treatment, which includes an anti-inflammation diet, mindfulness training, acupuncture, massage and moderate exercise.
Their outpatient alcohol/drug clinical team includes certified clinicians, recovery mentors, and Native American Outreach Specialists. They are a state-certified DUII treatment provider in Jefferson County and the contracted Oregon Health Plan provider.
Their Gambling Treatment offers screening, assessment, and individual counseling available for individuals struggling with gambling, including family members of the gambler. Their Prevention Program, located at 242 SW 4th Street, Suite D, Madras, has gambling prevention resources available to the public. Gambling prevention and treatment services are free of charge to the individual struggling with gambling issues, as well as their family members.
In addition to mental health and psychiatric services, for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness they offer some helpful adjunct services such as Supported Employment and their BestClub Program, which is an adult mental health consumer center. Their BestClub program is staffed by a small mental health team who facilitate individual and group therapy and case management services. Lunches are provided throughout the week at BestClub for consumers. Through a grant from the State Health Services Division, they have a mental health Supported Housing Program/Rental Assistance Program for eligible participants.
BestCare has several mental health clinicians who are embedded in the schools in the 509-J and Culver School Districts in Jefferson County. By providing on-site mental health counseling services in the schools, many young people are able to participate in individual counseling in the school setting. Many children have been involved in mental health services since the program’s inception. Some children strictly participate in school counseling for short episodes of care while others may participate throughout the entire school year.
Young Adults in Transition is a relatively new program to Oregon, focused on young people between the ages of 14-24. They know that youth in transition have been the lowest utilizer of mental health services demographically. Several years ago the Central Oregon region received a YATH/YHUB grant from the State Health System Division to offer support and services to youth in transition who suffer from mental health and/or behavioral challenges.
Private
BestCare in Madras has a small Treatment Housing clean/sober living option available to high intensity clients who are engaged in our Day Treatment program. This is a short-term (3-6 month) housing program to support our clients’ intensive outpatient treatment programming. Individuals who are in early recovery who do not have a safe, drug-free living environment are the first priority for this program as well as pregnant women who are struggling with addiction issues.
