Hazel Betty Ford Foundation's drug and alcohol rehab programs for men and women combine evidence-based addiction treatment practices and the latest research. Hazel Betty Ford Foundation is located at Newberg, Oregon.

Hazelden Betty Ford Focus:

Opiate Addiction

Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Alcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse treatment center has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person’s mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Rehab Services:

Opioid Dependence Treatment

Because of the unique challenges in addressing opioid addiction, including an increased vulnerability to overdose and accidental death, the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation developed COR-12™, a specialized treatment approach that involves the use of medications, extended continuing care and close monitoring of medication use. Comprehensive Opioid Response with the Twelve Steps (COR-12) may be recommended by the patient treatment team at to erase the discomfort of opioid withdrawal with the use of Suboxone (Buprenorphine), reduce cravings and help the engage more successfully in rehab.

Buprenorphine Detox and Treatment

Similar to methadone, buprenorphine is a drug meant to help with long-term treatment for opioid addiction. Those recovering from heroin addiction or other opiate addiction may be prescribed buprenorphine (Suboxone and Subutex) to help wean the body off of opioids safely, over time. Buprenorphine helps lessen the discomfort and danger of detox and withdrawal.

Vivitrol used for Addiction Recovery

Vivitrol has proven to be extremely effective in the treatment of opiate and alcohol abuse, especially when complimented with an effective rehab program. Vivitrol is a non-narcotic, non-addictive medication approved by the FDA that is used to suppress a person's cravings for a substance.

What does Hazelden Betty Ford offer?

24 Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it’s important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

With flexible daytime or evening scheduling, their Intensive Outpatient Programs usually meet four times a week for three-hour sessions, but decreases in frequency as clinical milestones are met. With intensive outpatient drug and alcohol rehab, have the support of their counselor and treatment peers as you navigate the everyday challenges of early recovery.

Residential (inpatient) Treatment

Inpatient addiction treatment comes in slightly different structures and intensities across the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, but an abstinence-based, Twelve Step approach utilizing evidence-based practices is core to all programs. Outpatient treatment varies slightly in frequency and intensity across the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. Inpatient addiction treatment at their quiet, countryside campus in Newberg, Oregon surrounds the patient with a multidisciplinary care team dedicated to your recovery—and provides the patient a safe, supportive place to heal.

Treatment Types:

Individualized Treatment

Certain drug and alcohol rehab centers have standard treatment regimes they expect all patients to follow. Others offer individualized treatment, meaning they tailor treatment to a person’s specific background and needs. For example, a rehab facility may adjust a treatment program to take into account the type of drug or addiction from which the person suffers, their age, medical condition(s), religious beliefs, or lifestyle.

12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex & Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Family Program

Families need help in their own right. Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation’s educational and support programs help family members learn about the disease of addiction and how you've all been affected. With care and support, familes can work through the chaos they've experienced, understand how to set healthy boundaries, and begin to rebuild a trusting relationship with your loved one.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community  programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Therapies Offered:

Holistic Therapy

Rather than focusing solely on addiction, holistic therapy facilities treat patients in terms of their whole being. Holistic therapy is about more than just addiction and sobriety – it addresses the person’s life in its entirety, including career, physical, familial, and spiritual aspects.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Couples Treatment

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person’s life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional “talk therapy” by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Life Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Animal Therapy

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation. Animal-assisted recovery support is not considered an independent treatment modality, but is, instead, a therapeutic technique used alongside evidence-based practices in an effort to maximize the benefits of the patient’s treatment.
