Heartview Foundation - East Broadway Avenue is located in the historic district of downtown Bismarck, North Dakota. Heartview Foundation - East Broadway Avenue offers all services in one location. Their facility contains a 12-bed residential unit with an outdoor serenity park, group rooms, meeting rooms, individual offices, a health information management department and a business office.

Heartview Foundation - East Broadway Avenue Focus:

Substance Abuse

Substance Abuse Treatment Centers focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Opiate Addiction

Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Rehab Services:

Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT)

Methadone Maintenance Treatment or ORT (Opiate Replacement Therapy) is the use of methadone as a substitute for someone who is addicted to opioids (heroin, OxyContin, codeine, Dilaudid, Percocet and others), helping with the recovery process reducing the cravings for the opioids or used as part of the admittance process to a substance abuse treatment facility that requires complete abstinence.

Medically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Buprenorphine Detox and Treatment

If you are addicted to street drugs such as heroin or morphine, or to legal prescription drugs like Vicodin, Percoscet, or OxyContin, a medication called buprenorphine may ease your withdrawal and help you maintain your sobriety. Buprenorphine has recently become the medication of choice, instead of methadone, in the treatment of opioid addiction. It has a lower potential for abuse. The medication can be used during both the detoxification and maintenance phases of treatment.

Vivitrol used for Addiction Recovery

Vivitrol has proven to be extremely effective in the treatment of opiate and alcohol abuse, especially when complimented with an effective rehab program. Vivitrol is a non-narcotic, non-addictive medication approved by the FDA that is used to suppress a person's cravings for a substance.

Naltrexone is often used along with psychiatric counseling and social support to treat individuals undergoing drug or alcohol rehabilitation treatment.

Psychotropic Medication

Psychotropic medications (aka psychodynamic medication) are any medicines used specifically to affect and/or alter a patient’s mind, emotions, and behaviors. Such psychiatric medicines are often used to change chemical levels in the brain that impact a person’s mood and behavior. These medications include mood stabilizers, antidepressants, anti-ADHD drugs, and anti-anxiety medications.

What does Heartview Foundation - East Broadway Avenue offer?

24 Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it’s important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

This program is a step down from Partial Hospitalization/Day Treatment. Patients in this level attend treatment three or four days per week. A day or evening option is available. Treatment includes group therapy, lectures, nursing evaluation and followup, acupuncture (if desired) and chaplain services. Treatment is scheduled on Monday 8 – 3pm, Tuesday through Thursday 8 – noon and Fridays (optional) from 8-noon. Most patients attend 20 sessions of day treatment. An evening option is available, which meets Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Most patients attend 24 sessions of evening treatment.

Outpatient (OP)

Outpatient services are for patients 14 years and older who are able to live sober in their home environment and come to Heartview on a regular basis for treatment. This level of care is highly individualized, and is usually for patients who completed treatment at one time, and need additional followup care. This service may consist of a limited number of individual or group counseling sessions, relapse prevention, education, family programming or other care as needed.

Residential (inpatient) Treatment

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatment Types:

Individualized Treatment

When you arrive for the scheduled appointment, a highly-qualified addiction counselor will meet with you and do a comprehensive assessment of your situation. An evaluation is the first step on your path toward recovery. Their understanding staff will assist you through the process. At the end of your evaluation, their multi-disciplinary team will make a recommendation on what is best for you.

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex & Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Family Program

Family programming is an essential part of all treatment categories at Heartview. They understand that addiction profoundly affects the family (or significant others), and healing must occur for both the patient and the family. Family members are often involved in the assessment process, helping them understand your alcohol or drug use and the problems it has caused. Once you are in treatment, they support and educate your family members as they deal with understanding your disease, treatment, and healing process. At the point you are ready, Your family members (or significant others) will come to Heartview and receive help in understanding addiction.

Aftercare Support

This service is highly recommended after you have completed one or more of the service levels. The purpose is to help you maintain sobriety on a long-term basis. Aftercare groups meet once per week. The full aftercare program is 20 sessions in length. There are several day and evening options available.

Therapies Offered:

Holistic Therapy

Rather than focusing solely on addiction, holistic therapy facilities treat patients in terms of their whole being. Holistic therapy is about more than just addiction and sobriety – it addresses the person’s life in its entirety, including career, physical, familial, and spiritual aspects.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Creative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.
