Life Treatment Centers is a non-profit, community-based organization that has served the chemical dependency needs of the St. Joseph County/North Central Indiana community since 1972. Life Treatment Centers has expanded from solely detoxification services, to a Comprehensive list of treatment services.

Life Treatment Centers Focus:

Substance Abuse

Substance Abuse Treatment Centers focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Opiate Addiction

Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Alcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

What does Life Treatment Centers offer?

Outpatient (OP)

Through motivational and educational lectures, this program provides education on alcohol and drugs and the effects they have on an individual. Individual strengths and limitations will be identified in order to better individualize the type of treatment a client receives. Clients will learn skills to enhance personal functioning in treatment as well as their daily lives. They will also gain a support network in order to achieve long term abstinence. Treatment is a combination of psycho-education and group therapy. Community housing at our South Bend facility is available for clients throughout the recovery process.

Residential (inpatient) Treatment

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatment Types:

Individualized Treatment

Certain drug and alcohol rehab centers have standard treatment regimes they expect all patients to follow. Others offer individualized treatment, meaning they tailor treatment to a person’s specific background and needs. For example, a rehab facility may adjust a treatment program to take into account the type of drug or addiction from which the person suffers, their age, medical condition(s), religious beliefs, or lifestyle.

Aftercare Support

This final step in treatment is designed to provide a support network for the individual to help prevent relapse. It consists of group therapy sessions for up to one year after primary treatment has been completed. Through a group setting, personal relapse triggers will be identified and clients will be taught how to best cope with the new challenges they face.

Therapies Offered:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Life Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

  • LTC provides homeless veterans with three meals a day, shelter, toiletries, and clothing (if available). Homeless veterans are given the opportunity to receive specialized treatment sessions to address their individual needs, in addition to a veteran support group. LTC works closely with the Veterans Association to determine if they qualify for veteran benefits, which could include housing and/or medical assistance. In addition, LTC structures outside activities (such as bowling, movies, veteran events) to assist them in feeling more comfortable within the community.
