Luminance Recovery Center is a private rehab located in San Juan Capistrano, California. Luminance Recovery Center specializes in the treatment of mental health, substance, drug and alcohol abuse.

Luminance Recovery Center Focus:

Opiate Addiction Treatment Center

Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Alcoholism Treatment Center

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment Center

A combined mental health and substance abuse treatment center has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Rehab Services:

Medically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

What does Luminance Recovery Center offer?

24 Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it’s important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

Instensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Residential (inpatient) Treatment

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis refers to people who suffer from another major disorder besides their dependence on drugs or alcohol, whether it is an eating disorder or bipolar disorder. Other co-occurring disorders include depression, anxiety, and trauma. Whatever the COD is, there is evidence that patients have a much better chance at long-term recovery when both problems are treated at the same time.

Treatment Types:

Individualized Treatment

Certain drug and alcohol rehab centers have standard treatment regimes they expect all patients to follow. Others offer individualized treatment, meaning they tailor treatment to a person’s specific background and needs. For example, a rehab facility may adjust a treatment program to take into account the type of drug or addiction from which the person suffers, their age, medical condition(s), religious beliefs, or lifestyle.

Family Program

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Therapies Offered:

Holistic Therapy

Holistic therapies at Luminance include yoga and meditation. These lifestyle therapies enhance your treatment, allow for deepened self-discovery, and teach relaxation methods to use upon returning home. Rather than focusing solely on addiction, holistic therapy facilities treat patients in terms of their whole being. Holistic therapy is about more than just addiction and sobriety – it addresses the person’s life in its entirety, including career, physical, familial, and spiritual aspects.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CMT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Individual Therapy

Luminance offers one-on-one sessions, one to two times a week. You’ll receive personalized treatment in a safe space, learn to forgive yourself and others, and restore your dreams and sense of self.

Trauma Therapy

We treat trauma as well as co-occurring addictive and compulsive disorders. Our goal is symptom relief, so you can rebuild your life and establish a sense of security and the ability to develop healthy relationships. Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Group Therapy

Our licensed therapists create a safe space where you’ll regain a sense of belonging and create meaningful connections. Some classes include Group Therapy, Trauma, Men’s Issues, and Women’s Issues. Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members

Equine Therapy

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Sometimes we experience traumatic events and these events overwhelm the physiology and neurobiology of our bodies resulting in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which can include symptoms of nightmares, flashbacks, reckless behavior, and extreme efforts to avoid thoughts or feelings associated with the traumatic events. Often times substance abuse begins or is escalated after a traumatic event in an effort to self-soothe but in order for complete recovery from substance abuse to be possible, these experiences need to be resolved and processed in a safe, therapeutic environment. Luminance is pleased to offer EMDR therapy to clients with PTSD symptoms or unresolved traumatic experiences as apart of our service offerings. EMDR is well-researched, proven therapeutic modality that works by creating new neural network pathways associated with the traumatic events via bilateral stimulation between each hemisphere of the brain either through eye movements, tapping, or hand-held vibrating pulsars.

Experiential Therapy

Re-establish confidence and a sense of achievement as you meet and exceed fitness goals with our personal trainers up to three times a week. In addition, our equine and wilderness therapies engage your whole body and mind. Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional “talk therapy” by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing. Luminance Recovery offer experiential groups in surfing and rock climbing.

Eating Disorder Treatment

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Life Skills

Master the skills to liberate yourself. Gain hope and confidence through experiential knowledge for your new way of living. Learn accountability for finances, daily tasks, and communication with others by living and working side-by-side with your housemates.

Nutrition Therapy

Eat restorative, fresh lunches served by the Luminance chef and culinary team. Treat the mind and body by selecting your own breakfast foods and taking turns making meals for the whole house. Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Creative Arts Therapy

Nothing soothes the soul and encourages self-discovery like music and art. With weekly art sessions, you’ll amaze yourself as you develop a restored sense of empowerment. Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.
