My son was having an episode of high anxiety, this was not going to be his first admission to the psy unit, 14 floor. We gave our history to the ER nurse, she called down to the psy Er, the person on the phone and the Er nurse were laughing, it was 10 pm on a Sunday and this was the first patient for the night...wonder why that is......he was sent down stairs to the psy holding unit, I sat in the waiting room, I could hear my son crying please, help, he cryed for what seemed to be 5 minutes...I could hear the staff laughing.....while he cried. When the doctor came out I asked him why was my son crying... his answer was, no that wasn't him. Will I was told there was only 3 patients in the unit...and I'm his mother I know his cry. I said to the doctor, don't tell me that's not my son! Nassau really needto look into the staff that are taking care of the mentally ill...whether it's drug induced or not, theses people are suffering and to have staff that laughs at them is not acceptable.
