Port Human Services - Crisis Services Focus:

Substance Abuse

Substance Abuse Treatment Centers focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Opiate Addiction

Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Alcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Rehab Services:

Medically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

What does Port Human Services - Crisis Services offer?

Residential (inpatient) Treatment

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

PORT Health Services strives to provide quality prevention and treatment services for children and adolescents across Eastern North Carolina. Childhood and Adolescence can be a challenging time, especially when there are problems with behavior, attention, mood or when there are difficulties at home or at school. Experimentation with substances, drug/alcohol use by the youth or family member can further complicate their development. If problems go untreated, children/adolescents can develop low-self esteem, perform poorly at school, have troubling relationships with friends and family or not live up to their potential. We believe with quality therapeutic interventions, children/adolescents are able to develop the coping tools and life skills needed to acquire the highest level of functioning possible.
The PORT Health Services halfway houses provide clinically managed low-intensity residential services for adult males who are diagnosed with a substance use disorder and require daily supervision. The mission of the homes is to assist individuals with mapping a road to long-term recovery. The philosophy of treatment is to treat the individual’s illness, assist with development of new coping skills and build on their strengths. A combination of treatment modalities are utilized to address those needs and enable the patient to internalize and maintain the therapeutic gains as they reintegrate into the community.
Opioid substitution therapy (OST) or opioid replacement therapy (ORT) provides care to people struggling with addiction to opiate based substances. OST/ORT is a medical procedure of replacing an illicit or addicting opioid, with a longer acting but less euphoric opioid; Methadone or Buprenorphine are two commonly used drugs and are taken under medical supervision. The overall purpose behind using and opioid substitution drug is its capacity to assist the patient in gaining stability. It also provides the opportunity for the substance user to experience a reduced level of withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings while not producing the euphoric effects often experienced with illicit drug use.
OST/ORT is a proven effective treatment for improving the overall all health and wellbeing of people experiencing opiate use disorders and have lead to a reduction of opioid related deaths, and a decrease in financial expenditures related to drug-related crime and healthcare.
