Sobertec - Columbia Focus:

Opiate Addiction

Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse treatment center has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

What does Sobertec - Columbia offer?

Medically Assisted Detox

Detoxification is the first door through which clients pass to treatment. There are several different components that necessitate the level of care a client needs. You or your loved one will be evaluated, stabilized, and supported while being prepared for treatment. Detoxification presents an opportunity to intervene during a period of crisis and to encourage a client to make positive changes in the direction of health and recovery. Their professional clinical staff will utilize this time to build a therapeutic alliance while the client is being physically stabilized.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. With the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Sobertec, there is an initial psychiatric evaluation with a professional clinical team that will also address any major physical issues and prescribe any needed medication necessary to help facilitate the recovery process. The client will be assigned an individual case manager and a therapist who will meet with them weekly for individual one hour sessions. In the first week with the case manager, an Addiction Severity Index evaluation is conducted to identify areas in life which need to be addressed in treatment. From this, they create an individualized treatment plan that serves as a customized roadmap for recovery.

Outpatient (OP)

Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare. The outpatient program at Sobertec - Columbia is a live-in transitional work/school program. Clients are given the option to go to school, work, or function in their daily lives while also benefitting from flexibly structured programming in the morning or evening. This program is designed for individuals who would not like to take a break/hiatus from work or school for recovery and achieve recovery in a typical life setting.

Residential (inpatient) Treatment

Residential inpatient treatment programs offer a multidisciplinary approach for recovery to addiction in a comfortable and structured environment. Rest assured that you will have a set aftercare plan post-treatment. This is an intensive level of care that offers comfortable housing amenities and delicious meals throughout your stay, as well as offering support 24/7.

Treatment Types:

Individualized Treatment

Certain drug and alcohol rehab centers have standard treatment regimes they expect all patients to follow. Others offer individualized treatment, meaning they tailor treatment to a person's specific background and needs. For example, a rehab facility may adjust a treatment program to take into account the type of drug or addiction from which the person suffers, their age, medical condition(s), religious beliefs, or lifestyle.

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Therapies Offered:

Family Therapy

Addiction is viewed as a family disease as every member of the family is impacted by their loved one’s addiction. Family involvement is a vital part of successful treatment. Families can be assured that they will receive weekly updates from the client’s case manager, through phone sessions, if the family is out of the area. There are also written exercises, as well as face to face family and individual family sessions. Depending on the client’s individualized treatment plan, family involvement will vary. Families are always welcome to help participate in programming. At Sobertec, they believe that family involvement is one of the most important components in the process of healing. Family therapy at Sobertec focuses on building a structure of support for the client after they leave our center. They also concentrate on the value of supporting family members in their healing process as well as recovery from the effects that the addiction had on him or her.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.
