SSM Health DePaul Hospital

0 Reviews

SSM Health DePaul Hospital is located in Bridgeton, Missouri. SSM Health DePaul Hospital offers inpatient care for youth and adults who are experiencing acute psychiatric problems. During treatment, each patient is closely monitored under a psychiatrist’s care. Their goal is to stabilize young patients, help them understand their problems and develop coping strategies to manage their emotions and behaviors.

SSM Health DePaul Hospital Focus:

Opiate Addiction

Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Alcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse treatment center has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Rehab Services:

Medically Assisted Detox

SSM Health Stabilization Service is a hospital service that provides adults 18 and older with medical management of withdrawal symptoms from alcohol and opiates. It develops individualized treatments for each patient’s complex stabilization needs, and also works with patients to identify and develop those resources necessary to bring about a new beginning.

Opioid Dependence Treatment

Opioids are any drugs based on the chemical composition of opium. An opiate is a synthetic (man-made) version of an opioid, also known as a narcotic. Opiate pain medications include prescription painkillers, like Oxycodone, OxyContin, and Percocet. Other opioids include morphine, codeine, hydrocodone, buprenorphine, methadone, and heroin. Dependence or addiction to opioids is treated in a similar fashion to other drug and alcohol addictions, with an eye towards helping the body detox safely before other treatment commences.

Psychotropic Medication

Psychotropic medications (aka psychodynamic medication) are any medicines used specifically to affect and/or alter a patient’s mind, emotions, and behaviors. Such psychiatric medicines are often used to change chemical levels in the brain that impact a person’s mood and behavior. These medications include mood stabilizers, antidepressants, anti-ADHD drugs, and anti-anxiety medications.

Outpatient (OP)

The Youth and Family Intensive Outpatient Services is for families and teens ages 11 to 17, who are experiencing signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety and/or other mood disorders. This 4-5 week intensive outpatient program is designed specifically for teens who have significant changes in mood, behavior or personality that lasts more than a few weeks. The program is designed to treat the family as well as their youth, prevent hospitalization and ensure a smooth transition back into everyday life. The Adult Brief Treatment Outpatient Program is for adults 18 and older with a variety of mental health needs including stress, anxiety, depression, bipolar and substance use disorders. Brief treatment is designed for those adults who don’t meet inpatient criteria but could still benefit from short-term behavioral health services. The program offers group and individual therapy and is designed to enhance the physical, mental, cognitive, and social well-being of adults and seniors.

Residential (inpatient) Treatment

An individual may be referred to their acute inpatient psychiatric care if the individual has a behavioral health disorder that threatens the patient’s physical well-being or the well-being of others, to the extent that 24-hour monitoring is needed. This intensive hospitalization service offers needed stability in a safe and therapeutic, but sensitive and structured, environment. At SSM Health, their senior care inpatient services are designed to provide your loved one a safe and therapeutic environment where the healing process can begin. SSM Health Behavioral Health Services provides a safe, comforting and age-appropriate environment for identifying, evaluating and treating mental health issues for children ages 3-12 and adolescents ages 13-17, who are experiencing acute psychological problems. In this supportive, structured and nurturing setting, they help the child feel comfortable and open to sharing their feelings. They also maximize the opportunity to stabilize the crisis and reintegrate the child back into the family.

Intervention Services

Intervention Services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict’s behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person’s mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Treatment Types:

Individualized Treatment

Certain drug and alcohol rehab centers have standard treatment regimes they expect all patients to follow. Others offer individualized treatment, meaning they tailor treatment to a person’s specific background and needs. For example, a rehab facility may adjust a treatment program to take into account the type of drug or addiction from which the person suffers, their age, medical condition(s), religious beliefs, or lifestyle.

Family Program

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. Through discharge planning, the treatment team can recommend a variety of community resources for follow-up care.

Therapies Offered:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional “talk therapy” by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Life Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Creative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.
