Transformations by the Gulf is a Florida addiction rehabilitation center focusing on gender-specific addiction needs. Personalized addiction treatment plans are specific to individual needs, and we take a holistic approach to recovery. Transformations By The Gulf is located near beautiful St. Pete Beach, Florida, a barrier island just off the Pinellas County mainland.
Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Mental Health and Substance Abuse
A combined mental health and substance abuse treatment center has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.
Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person’s mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
Similar to methadone, buprenorphine is a drug meant to help with long-term treatment for opioid addiction. Those recovering from heroin addiction or other opiate addiction may be prescribed buprenorphine (Suboxone and Subutex) to help wean the body off of opioids safely, over time. Buprenorphine helps lessen the discomfort and danger of detox and withdrawal.
Psychotropic medications (aka psychodynamic medication) are any medicines used specifically to affect and/or alter a patient’s mind, emotions, and behaviors. Such psychiatric medicines are often used to change chemical levels in the brain that impact a person’s mood and behavior. These medications include mood stabilizers, antidepressants, anti-ADHD drugs, and anti-anxiety medications.
What does Transformations by the Gulf offer?
Medically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
24 Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it’s important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
Instensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
Transformations by the Gulf offers IOP, operating three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am – 12pm. Those who enroll in the IOP program will participate in three hours of structured groups and also have the option of receiving individual counseling sessions with a Master’s level clinician. They have a small client to counselor ratio, thus enhancing the individualization of the program.
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
Residential (inpatient) Treatment
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
Transformations by the Gulf's residential treatment programs offer a home-like and safe environment for addiction recovery. Residents spend the duration of their addiction treatment program with 24/7 access to addiction specialists and medical professionals.
Certain drug and alcohol rehab centers have standard treatment regimes they expect all patients to follow. Others offer individualized treatment, meaning they tailor treatment to a person’s specific background and needs. For example, a rehab facility may adjust a treatment program to take into account the type of drug or addiction from which the person suffers, their age, medical condition(s), religious beliefs, or lifestyle.
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex & Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
At Transformations By The Gulf Florida Drug Rehab and Substance Abuse Center, they use treatment specialties, together with evidence-based structured groups, to treat the whole person and not only the symptoms of addiction. Their adjunct treatment specialties include: Yoga, guided and individual meditation, acupuncture, nutritional and fitness counseling, light and sound neurotherapy, personal training, and tai chi. By integrating holistic components and treating the mind, body and spirit together, Transformations By The Gulf is able to provide individuals with a solid cornerstone for lasting recovery.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
At Transformations By The Gulf Florida Drug Rehab and Substance Abuse Center, they offer a wide range of group therapy sessions facilitated by their highly skilled clinicians. These gender-specific sessions include dynamic processing groups, where clients receive feedback and support from their peers as well as licensed therapists. Their groups focus on topics such as: Relapse Prevention , Emotional Coping, Stress Reduction, Interpersonal Relationships, Family Roles/Issues, Self-Esteem, Communication Skill and Boundary Setting, Sexuality and Intimacy, Co-dependency, and Anger Management.
Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional “talk therapy” by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.
Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.
Transformations by the Gulf Highlights:
The National Institute on Drug Abuse and Addiction (NIDA) states that men and women with substance abuse addiction problems require different treatment and prevention approaches. Transformations By The Gulf provides gender-specific treatment program options because they agree that in an all-women’s or all-men’s setting clients have greater success and fewer distractions than they would in a setting which is only co-ed.
Transformations by the Gulf Florida Drug Rehab and Substance Abuse Wellness Center takes addiction issues for pregnant women very seriously, and provides treatment for expectant mothers dealing with addiction, who are some of the most willing and successful candidates for drug rehab treatment.
For those who require a more structured recovery experience, Transformations by the Gulf offers PHP with separate housing for men and women which is walking distance to the beach. Individuals who choose to enroll in the PHP program reside in their beautiful and tranquil community treatment housing while participating in structured addiction treatment groups and adjunct therapies. Each person will be individually assessed and given a personalized treatment plan which they continue to develop with their counselor during weekly individual counseling sessions.
