Wilderness Treatment

Wilderness Treatment Center is located in Marion, Montana. Wilderness Treatment is a family owned, 60 day, inpatient chemical dependency treatment program for teens and young men between the ages of 14 and 24.

Wilderness Treatment Focus:

Substance Abuse

Substance Abuse Treatment Centers focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Opiate Addiction

Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Alcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person’s mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

What does Wilderness Treatment offer?

Residential (inpatient) Treatment

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatment Types:

Individualized Treatment

While their patients have a primary counselor, the treatment philosophy of Wilderness Treatment Center provides each clinical staff member visibility into the treatment plans, behaviors and history of every patient. This team-based approach enables the entire staff the ability to address specialized circumstances and therapeutic opportunities based on individual experience. No adolescent and/or young adult program can match the amount of focus and therapeutic hours they provide each of their patients during treatment.

12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex & Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Family Program

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Aftercare Support

Wilderness Treatment Center continues to build upon its current Alumni Program and add members each year. As a community they want to keep in touch, get updates on your sobriety, and hear your stories. These stories of triumph and perseverance only strengthen the “Dubs” legacy and commitment to care. They will be planning events all over the country including an Alumni trip at the end of each summer.

Therapies Offered:

Holistic Therapy

Rather than focusing solely on addiction, holistic therapy facilities treat patients in terms of their whole being. Holistic therapy is about more than just addiction and sobriety – it addresses the person’s life in its entirety, including career, physical, familial, and spiritual aspects.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Equine Therapy

To evade predators, horses have evolved to be extremely sensitive to their environment. They instinctively analyze and react to our body language and other nonverbal cues. As a result, we are able to gain insight into our own nonverbal communication and behavior patterns. The Eagala Model invites clients into an arena for ground-based interaction with horses to facilitate the therapeutic process. These horses become the focal point in client-driven discovery and analysis. The Eagala Model is a distinct experience-based, team-approach framework designed to empower clients to analyze their situations, make connections, and find their own solutions through personal and physical experiences.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional “talk therapy” by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Animal Therapy

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.

Wilderness Treatment Highlights:

Since it's inception in 1983, WTC has successfully treated young men/male teens from all over the world. Our treatment center's primary goal is to introduce male teens & young adult males to a new way of life free from drugs and alcohol with increased self-esteem and a feeling of empowerment. Rugged challenging activities such as backpacking, cross country skiing, rappelling, ranch work, and a wilderness expedition, offer adventure in a disciplined setting that leads to effective change for these young men.
They combine a conventional 30 day inpatient stay with a 16-21 day wilderness therapy expedition. As always, each of the expeditions is staffed by one of the addiction counselors and a wilderness instructor for the duration of the trip. The two components and length of stay allow Wilderness Treatment Center graduates to be further in the addiction recovery process than those leaving other programs.
Wilderness Treatment Center is located on a 5,900 acre, working cattle ranch, 25 miles west of Kalispell, MT. This ranch was built in 1924 and functioned as a high-end dude ranch from 1924 to 1970. The ranch was purchased in 1982 and in August of 1983, they admitted their first patient. Fifty percent of the original log buildings are still functioning today, giving Wilderness Treatment Center a true ranch atmosphere.
