file-medical iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

Hawaii’s dual-diagnosis rehabs typically offer comprehensive mental health and substance abuse treatment to support individuals in overcoming their addiction and gaining the skills to maintain a drug and alcohol-free life. Usually offered on an inpatient or outpatient basis, these treatment programs typically offer evidence-based therapies, like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), skill development workgroups, comprehensive relapse prevention, stress management techniques, and a supportive recovery community. Together, these treatment components drastically increase the chances of long-term recovery.

car-building iconOutpatient

Clients receiving treatment in an outpatient rehab typically require less intensive support and supervision than do persons in inpatient care. Many have already completed inpatient programs and are weeks or months along in their recovery journey. Outpatient treatment generally involves the continuation of treatments begun in inpatient care, including addiction counseling and life skills development. Some outpatient programs also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) for clients in opioid and/or alcohol recovery.

Couples Therapy

Relationships with significant others are an extremely important part of everyone lives, sometimes these relationship get off track. Often people think of marriage or couple counseling as sitting in a room one on one with a therapist or counselor, recounting one’s childhood experiences. At Maui Therapy, they are sensitive to these concerns. So, their first goal is to maintain a balanced approach and to show couples that they do not make judgments on who is right or wrong. This creates an environment where couples feel safe enough to open up so that lasting changes can be made. Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) are mental health professionals trained in psychotherapy and family systems, and licensed to diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders within the context of marriage, couples and family systems.

Family Therapy

Family therapy is designed to improve the functioning of the family as a whole. The concept of family therapy was developed in the 1950’s when psychiatrists and other mental health clinicians found that treating psychological problems within the context of the family had profound effects. By treating a family system as a whole, Marriage Family Therapists have an opportunity to assist family members to make powerful meaningful changes to improve the entire family’s functioning. At Maui Therapy they work with parents in a non-judgmental way to help them create stronger bonds with their children in order to give them the sense of security they need to navigate the serious challenges that exist today.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
