Before i call out the people that need to be fired or even just held accountable for their behavior, id like too call out the people that actually helped and did their best to make things shine when they knew stuff was messed up. And that would be Kate from maple wood. She not only did an amazing job handling hard situations but had very much sympathy for my situation. Now, who in which did not help was Ray from maple wood. Her intentions with me were not only weird but obsessive. I was the kid she favored and let me onto her phone and even taken me to her apartment once or twice. She made unwilling promises like how i would live with her after I discharged. After my time here a year or so, I ve still had contact with her and I found out I was pregnant.. she had told me that I should give my baby too her. Knowing that I would sympathize because of her telling me in past that she was trying for a baby and trying to surrogate herself. She would also tell me about her sex life and current partners.. she would also be on tinder while at work and sometimes ask my opinion on a person. I went into this facility brainwashed that it was a safe place when really ray was creating more damage to my mental health issues. I don t suggest bringing your kids here until ray has been handled. I mean look she literally has 3 bad reviews about her and she is STILL working there as the main staff. I m sure she s gonna look at this review and laugh because she knows she got away with what she s done, not the first time either (she s read one of her bad reviews out loud to us and laughed claimed the child was the problem)

Please reconsider before taking your children here. I took my daughter here when she was struggling with mental health. This place did more damage than good. They lied on her discharge paperwork when we left to go to a place that actually helped her.

It was an awful place to be it helped with some of my problems but added on twice the amount. That place gave me more trama than going in. It's sad knowing that this is the best place is alaska. Most of the staff were TERRIBLE. Ray would let one of peers go on her phone had no boundaries with this peer and would let her get away with everything. Once this peer left Ray had my peers phone number which is illegal and told us not to tell anyone,so none of of did. I got the cops called on me for unnecessary reasons. The staff member siu would also get into unnecessary arguments with me all the time. There is so much bad things I could tell you about this place but that would be too many words. Everyone who went there would always try to convince their family's to discharge them but gave up within the first week. This place would make us more sneaky and created much more trama for everyone there.

Accepted Insurance

AK Child and Family – Maplewood Campus works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

The treatment program includes, but is not limited to, the following: individual, group and family therapy on a weekly basis by a Master’s-educated clinical therapist; nursing services by registered nurses with oversight of a medical director; milieu therapy which includes structure activities; individualized treatment work for youth; recreation therapy; voluntary spiritual life activities; and educational support.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

The youth, parent/guardian, community therapist/clinical therapist/coaching parent/life-skills specialist/placing worker/treatment parent/case manager, as appropriate, will be involved in discharge planning. This plan begins with the development of the treatment plan and continues throughout treatment. When indicated, the above mentioned treatment team will participate in the development of a written discharge plan. Discharge planning is an ongoing and collaborative process, and specific designation of responsibility for services after discharge from the facility will be documented throughout the discharge planning process.

Treatments

Individuals who are diagnosed with both a substance use disorder as well as a mental health disorder are often referred to as having co-occurring disorders. The combination of a mental health disorder and substance abuse or dependence is very common. Studies indicate that more than half of young people with a substance abuse diagnosis also have a diagnosable mental illness. At AK Child & Family, they recognize that co-occurring mental health and substance use impacts one another and to be most effective, both disorders should be treated at the same time.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) encompasses the conditions often referred to as alcoholism, alcohol abuse, alcohol dependence, and alcohol addiction. If someone is addicted to alcohol, they continue to drink, even when experiencing negative consequences. But alcohol rehab in Alaska can help you overcome alcohol dependency. Treatment typically involves evidence-based therapies and support groups, but may also include medications to treat alcohol addiction.

During drug rehab in Alaska, you'll receive a combination of medical and psychotherapeutic treatments that are designed to treat drug dependency. The goal of drug rehab is to break this dependency and help you develop the skills to maintain a drug-free life.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

In Alaska, substance abuse treatment programs provide a full spectrum of addiction care, which may include detox, residential, and intensive outpatient programs. These programs incorporate evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-focused therapy, and mindfulness-based therapy. You'll learn emotional regulation skills, new coping strategies, and develop a supportive recovery community, which are essential components of long-term recovery.

Programs

young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image

Child Program

The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
teen-program thumbnail image

Teen Program

Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Activity therapy is available both individually and in a group setting. Individual activity therapy pairs a child with an adult Activity Therapist (AT) to work on social skills, communication, goal setting, independent living, anger management and other treatment issues. Group Activity Therapy follows a curriculum that introduces youth to a variety of topics and issues that may include self-expression, community resources, initiative taking, vocational training, team building, health and fitness, social skill development and psychotherapy.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Recreational therapy helps people who are recovering from addiction engage in structured activities that raise their self esteem and resilience. These activities could include hiking, team sports, and creative arts. They help divert focus away from substance use while improving your physical fitness. This provides a constructive outlet for stress and emotions.

They drugged me so badly that I went crazy. My CT Nina would threaten me to go to McLaughlin and instead of helping me get through stuff she made me meditate? The kids there are also insufferable. The Psychiatrist would give me beta blockers and all types of antipsychotics when I’m not psychotic. the rooms are nasty and they don’t clean them before putting students in the rooms, There was mold everywhere. Staff also let students self harm without putting them on precautions.
