This place saved my life, I was entirely lost and mentally stranded after years of mistakes. I never learned how to function as an adult in the real world, which exactly what Roots taught me. The sober living program provides a very structured schedule, helps build disciplines, and teaches real life skills alongside how to live a happy life in recovery. When I first got to roots I was very shut down and isolated, I wanted nothing to do with anyone including myself, I had no hope left. I have now been at roots for a year and I can truly say that roots gave me my life back. I have learned how to trust others, myself, and be more vulnerable which has helped me make connections with other sober people in my community, and rebuild the ones that I had tore down in my active addiction. The structure helped me to stay accountable and relearn what everyday life is like outside of using, I forgot how to be a human outside of drugs and alcohol and roots helped me to build up my skills again. I could go on and on about how much roots has changed my life but I can assure you that in the year I have been here I am a completely different person and I am so beyond grateful I came to roots and that the people within roots never lost hope in me!

This centered based program is a master class on recovery, in my opinion, it's the one place you can really start over and begin the change so desperately needed for the road to recovery!!! The staff at Burkwood is second to none. The RA's and nurse's understand you and are amazing people!!! The cooks created fantastic food (Michelin Star grade) three squares and dessert!!! Also snacks on deck😉 The counselors are fantastic and each has a unique experience which gives better perspective on your journey! You can really emerse yourself in the program if you keep an open mind, don't get in your own way, and mind your bobber. With the community, you will feel like family, not only with the clients but the staff as well! People really care here and you will feel it! The comrodary you may not have known you needed is here and helps you become healthy, not only for yourself but in relationships and life over all. The best version of yourself is waiting to be realized!! Everyone I know has congratulated my achievements since graduating this program. I have no regrets and a much clearer pathway to my goals in recovery. After here, life really begins!

I am going on my 7th year here. When I had my first appointment I was so scared and nervous that I was going to be judged or looked at differently. Not even one member of staff has ever made me feel that way. What I would tell myself and anyone afraid to take that leap. You are worth it, you deserve to be drug and/or alcahol free and happy. It hurts nothing to try. Help, health and happiness is really only a call away. I'm not gonna lie it's not easy at first but as time goes on before you know it you won't even think about any substance any more. You are worth it!!!!!

This clinic has saved my life, I have a very bad substance abuse disorder this is 4th clinic I've been on Suboxone and methadone well I've come to realize that I am lifer I am sick of relapsing so I'll be on methadone rest of my life. Clinic is great most all counselors are very sincere and nurses are great follow the rules and eventually u do feel like it living a normal free life from the chase of dope or pills whatever ur demon is.. Most times i have to call to get medication refills the staff is nice, lately they have been better than ever. Super helpful, kind and respectful making sure any questions or needs are met to the best of their abilities. I felt my self in crisis mode, made a call to talk to my psychiatrist and the guy who answered told me he would send her a message, a little later in the day he calls me back and said he heard back from her and proceeded to let me know that information. Within the phone call he really made me feel heard and understood without judgement. Which someone who struggles with mental health while trying to maintain a “normal life” appreciates more than you know. There have been times i’ve had to get my prescription refilled and i get anxious making the phone call because there were a couple different staff members that would come across annoyed, & so it would make me feel bad or embarrassed after hanging up, due to how someone communicates through a phone conversation. I have been with ABC for a couple of years now, and over all i’ve had a pleasant experience. I love my psychiatrist, and the relationship that’s formed over the years. She listens to my concerns, has been patient, kind, makes me feel like she gets the hard things life throws our way but also tries to work with me to understand just because she could give me a handful of pills doesn’t means she wants to. Life is hard sometimes but as a community, we need to realize that so are we.

The uniform’s folded, the boots put away, but service still echoes through each passing day. The mission has shifted, the cadence has changed, yet healing takes courage when life feels rearranged. Inside these long hallways, the next watch begins, with nurses and doctors and warm, patient grins. They listen, they measure, they mend what they can, then help an old soldier stand steady again. There are scans for the body and words for the mind, new roads toward relief when the old roads unwind. From medicine, movement, and mental-health care, the load becomes lighter when someone is there. The forms can be many, the hallways can wind, and waiting can wear on an already tired mind. But beyond all the numbers, appointments, and charts, are people still serving with capable hearts. William Middleton served both the soldier and science, with duty through war and a healer’s reliance. A doctor, a colonel, a teacher of care, his name still stands watch over veterans there. Since nineteen fifty-one, through each season and year, these doors have stood open for those who served here. Not promising miracles, not erasing the past, but helping us carry, recover, and last. So here’s to the workers who answer the call, from clinics and kitchens to each hospital hall. To the hands that bring comfort, the ears that still hear, and the veterans who enter despite doubt and fear. For asking for help is not waving defeat, it is one more hard mission on battle-worn feet. A brave forward movement, a difficult start, requiring the strength of a soldier’s own heart. At Middleton Memorial, the colors still fly, for those who came home but still wonder sometimes why. The war may be distant, yet service stays true, and the watch now belongs to the healers and you. I was just discharged from there today. I came into the ER, was admitted, and then had my gallbladder removed. From the moment I arrived there, it felt like most hospitals used to feel. It felt like a place where they would do everything they could to get you feeling better. These types of hospitals seem to be getting harder to find. There were so many excellent doctors, nurses, and staff that I interacted with over the 4 days I was there. Especially nurses Gwen Kay, Rose Whitehead, and the doctors in my surgical team. Everyone was great, but I'm terrible with remembering names so please forgive me. Anyway, please keep doing what you're doing. It was about as great of an experience as one could have while still walking away missing an organ. Thank you for everything!

As far as psych unuts go, this one is *TOP* of my list!! The food is AMAZING, the people are WONDERFUL, the programs they do and the support they provide are absolutely the best I've had (and, I'm not ashamed to say I've been to *many* different inpatient units over my lifetime. 😅 Being able to go in when you realize you're out of sorts or not feeling safe is VERY important!! We don't talk enough about mental health in the world, and it's just as important as physical care!) Anyway.... 10/10... HIGHLY recommend! (And no, I'm not getting paid yo say this! 🤣)

Although I have nothing to compare this program to, I found my care to be top notch. Okay, the beds are a bit hard but the doctors, social workers and the nurses (almost forgot to mention the OT folks) were incredibly kind and effective. In my opinion, the inpatient program is as successful as the work you put into it. There is no magic cure; just need to pull yourself up by the britches and dive in. Oh- the food is quite good as well! I would highly recommend this inpatient psychiatric programming!

I've been bringing my dad to this VA for the last few months, and after just our first visit, we knew he was in good hands. Every specialist we've seen have been nothing but hands on, attentive, thorough, empathetic, patient and helpful. From Dr.B in oncology, to Tess up in endoscopy, these women are some of the most kind medical professionals I have ever met, and I hope they know their kindness goes a long way and is still thought of well after. I have had so many wonderful interactions with the staff there, there was a nurse who ordered my dad some lunch as he was in recovery after a procedure, which was such a nice thing to do, I didn't catch her name but she might be the charge nurse in endoscopy maybe? Another thing I really liked about this VA is that if you look lost and wandering the halls, there are many friendly faces around to get you pointed in the right direction, and most of the time they'll ask YOU first lol. There was also a younger man up front who helped lead me to the other building over to 114 through the tunnel, he didn't have to, but he did, just over all blown away by the difference of health care compared to the other VA my dad was going to. And with already having seen someone in Pulmonary, Radiation/oncology, Endoscopy, ED department, mental health, Hematology, Chemotherapy, Pain clinic, XRAY, PET SCAN, and MRI, I have nothing but good things to say. Thank you kindly, for everything.

Incredible staff! I have never waited for more than 10 minutes for any appointment and the doctors are so thorough and friendly. They don't make you feel rushed at all. They CARE! I have been to the residential treatment program in Tomah three to four times. I had to return because I have PTSD, substance abuse, anxiety, depression and also physical ailments. When I went to Tomah I had a discussion initially with my case manager and I told her that she had to be hard on me and keep it real. Get on my cage when needed and everything. During my treatment I got upset because she was keeping it real getting on my case. When I looked at her she wasn't smiling and hard-faced and everything. I reported it to the supervisor and asked her to to change my case managers. Of course you did. I. I blamed myself for what happened to me in the military and caused my PTSD. The second time I returned I worked hard with her and everything still skeptical about the way she felt about me. On the last meeting we had, we battled we argued but at the end of that meeting I did not blame myself anymore. I thanked her and gave her a hug and then she smiled tomah and their residential treatment program is the best I have ever had. Their groups are great. They're not large groups. They make sure you understand the topic. All the case. Managers and facilitators are great. I would recommend that program to any of my fellow veterans. Thank you rttp for everything you have given me and still can give me if need be. They also woke up the inner me and I started being creative again with a lot of parts of my life. My thinking improved. My art skills improved and I learned a lot while I was there. And they're fried Chicken in their cafeteria at lunch time is the best. Thank you!

Connections Counseling is by far the best place I have ever been to for therapy and treatment. My therapist is insightful, inspiring, relatable and very knowledgeable. She encourages me to look within myself for strength and wisdom while she is there to help me. I now have 1.5 years of sobriety under my belt and have confidence in the future The groups are a place of safety and comfort. The staff aswell as the peers are relatable, inspiring and encouraging. Some of the classes were great! The art therapy was amazing. Some of the staff was great. Juliana deserves a raise!! That girl handled some very difficult people over the weekend. Some of the aids were so kind and fun and helpful. Definitely some not so nice or invested staff. They did great with my food allergies. Overall was a helpful stay for mental health but a few employees that may need to be let go.

I went to Casa and was so surprised by how wonderful it was. We really all become a family. I remember 2 girls were pregnant and worried about their babies. A girl named Haley was one of them pregnant girls and today she's been sober for almost 2 yrs. She had her beautiful son and is doing amazing. Has her own apartment and just doing such great things in her and her son's life. I know Casa Clare and friendships she had helped her so much. The counselors really care about you and you can feel that. I'm so proud of so many people I meet there. Thank you Casa for all you do for so many lives

Casa Clare took me in the same week I called for help, after not showing up for 2 prior intake appointments. I was 38 weeks pregnant, I was deep in addiction, homeless, and lost. This program not only got me sober and offered support, they are the reason I was able to keep custody of my baby and continue to thrive almost 2 years later. They helped make postings on local support groups to help me gather needed baby supplies, let me bring my newborn to group sessions, and still to this day offer updated letters of completion and support. The counselors are able to connect with residents, as they have fought their own personal demons which makes sobriety feel so much more attainable. Thanks Casa Clare, I wouldn't be an independent, sober mama that's about to graduate college if it weren't for your support and guidance lifting me up from rock bottom. You guys truly helped to save mine and my babies life. ❣️

I think this place benefits everyone that comes to it. There was this one guy though that kept talking about getting loads all the time. There was another guy that was born a mouse and now is growing into a rat, He smoked weed the whole Time. Made it hard to focus on my recovery. Then he did the perky dance right outta here. Kim is a wonderful staff member along with Karen. The rest of the staff isn’t bad either.

We need this agency to stay intact. All their programs are engineered to benefit not only the city of Sheboygan, but all the communities in all of Sheboygan county, whether the average person in any of our communities is acceptable or not. No one who works there is discriminatory and I have never experienced nasty behavior or disrespect on the department grounds.

Troy Lee and Sabrina Spatz are single-handedly the reason for the growth I've had in my mental health. To be honest based on the last place(arbor mental health services) I tried seeking help from with my mental health and the "answers" I got from that place made me very learly/nervous to reach out to anyone ever again to seek assistance with my mental health. Seeing the reveiws on NCHC made me even more worried that I was going to be treated like another number or just another person with a list of problems that don't matter. After a few sessions With Troy and Sabrina i realized quickly with how they communicated with me and how they treated me that I knew I was in the right place with people who actually cared and wanted to see my mental health successes. What Ive come to realize is that I get and understand the rap that this place gets. To be honest alot of it is probably people who are upset because they aren't getting what they want or what they think they need. Troy and Sabrina are the type of people who will listen to what you have to say, apply your situation to what they have learned and what they have been taught and will apply their knowledge to your situation for the best mental outcome of whatever it is your trying to accomplish mentally. Hats off to Troy Lee and Sabrina Spatz. You guys are what the mental health field truly needs to be able to find success in your mental health. The industry needs more people like Troy and Sabrina.
