What really stands out is that they are a customer owned health insurer. The company was founded in 1936 and today has 23 million members and 28,000 employees. They focus on connecting members to excellent care, helping them get quality outcomes.
Does HCSC Cover Drug Rehab?
There was a law passed in 2010 that dramatically changed how addiction treatment and mental health care were covered by insurance. The law, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), requires most long term health insurance plans to cover 10 essential health benefits. The list includes mental health and addiction treatment. The law has some exceptions, so make sure to verify your insurance.
That means your HCSC insurance plan may cover at least some of the costs of drug rehab. You can also get help with co occurring mental health disorders. Every HCSC is different and will have different in network providers and costs you are responsible for. That’s why it’s important to understand the details of your plan before you begin treatment.
Excellent rehab facility with great accommodations and food. Almost all of the staff have been through successful recovery so I felt at home the whole time! I'm looking forward to coming back ro speak as I continue in my 12 step recovery!

As someone in a grey area, i had more clear thoughts than people i was in with. Many things I heard from people who still needed to allow their brain to heal is "they just want our money" yet they are one of the few places that actually help people who can't afford the treatment. And their staff is empathetic and know what you are going through. Trust them they are good people and their system works.I was reluctant at first over the 12 steps. I'm not an addict, i have substance abuse occasionally throughout my life but I'm not disordered that way. But my mental health has been unmanageable so I sought treatment. But im in a gray area stuck in PA due to insurance.Theres not many places for that kind of treatment. Still they again went above and beyond to help.I had to stay more days than I wanted for the result i needed. I had to let them do their jobs, and I did even though I thought I knew the result, which was I'm my opinion 'hopeless'But the last day I gave them, they found somewhere. And ironically even though I found a place specifically for mental health, I still have to take those 12 steps for the housing. Not for the program if signed up for. For the housing since the program has third party housing where its required.Thats when I realized what they kept saying was true. 'we wish people who weren't addicts took those steps' Everyone can benefit from them, even if that higher powers a door knob. Its is blessed by God to help the sick and suffering. Theyre beautiful steps. Which i realized in there, but i didn't think theyd applied to me.I had thought I already took them. I know my resentments and I know where I'm at fault. I have a higher power and I know I'm powerless, but in all reality I never took those first 3 steps properly. And my resentments and faults go deeper than the cycle of anxiety allows me to see.I needed that introduction to it to see that. Immediately coming back to triggers I realized so much due to the information i was given within those walls. Again these are blessed people. You might wanna run when you get in, you might not understand the process, but trust me, and trust the process.You will be baffled by the results if you just do what they say and take those 12 steps. There you should master the first 3, and you'll be introduced to the rest to properly pick out a good sponsor when you get to the next place. You need someone who will throughly go over the rest with you and they train you to seek that if you listen.Do it so you can be baffled by the results and live a good life.

My stay at Avenues was such a pleasure. All my needs were meet. The staff are excellent! I would definitely recommend this facility to anyone seeking help from addiction.
My son is 18 and struggling with a fentanyl addiction. To say the very least it s been hard and traumatic. My son went to the crossroads detox facility. The 12 step program works miracles and the people that work within the facility have first-hand experience often times with their own addiction recovery. Rose and Bridgette were incredibly impressionable on my son and worked very hard to influence him positively. If I could afford to open a dozen more of these places I would. God bless these people and those struggling with addiction.

Being at Crossroads has been a blessing in disguise extremely grateful for the peers, staff and the pretty souls God has allowed me to cross paths with. Crossroads gave me a second life and ever since ive felt reborn. It is now set in stone in my life and IAM forever appreciative for helping me recognize the purpose i have in this life and shining its light on me encouraging me to shine my light on those who navigate in the dark who are in need of a guiding light, thas what crossroads has been to me

Went in for 45 but stayed the 90. All in all I really enjoyed my stay and got the much needed help I wanted. Rehab is not for everyone but if I would recommend any 1 I would say flowers is the best shot you have.

Caring Hands Recovery is a place of healing. It has changed so many lives and given people a second chance to become who they really are. The staff is knowledgeable and kind, they walk with you through every step. Addiction can take away everything you love, Caring Hands can help you get it all back. I highly recommend getting treatment here, it is safe, and they get to the root of the problem so that you never have to pick up another drink or drug again.
Very friendly from the moment I walked in.The security guards are wonderful.The nurses are wonderful.Everybody greets you with a smiling face.My counselor is great His name is Mark A., and he will help you with anything you need help with. I'm really blessed to have him as my counselor and blessed to get in this program if your serious about recovery and you don't want to buy that crap in the streets please give this place a try I just take it one day at a time hopefully I can come back and leave a post in the future you can't rush greatness one day at a time.. keep coming back.. it works if You work it .. Been coming here for a long, long time Through my recovery I have had many counselors some better than others funny how things happen my husband transferred to Medmark from BAART in Oakland crazy we both ended up on Rich s case load { R.I.P. RICH another great counselor } so you know we both can t have the same counselors so of course I got kicked to the curb. Best curb I got kicked to { so to speak. } which is currently Nicole Martinez, the best I ve ever had , She definitely help me get to where I am now she goes above and beyond helped me in my life so much, I don t even know what I m gonna do when we goes our separate ways ..I wish I can take her with me. I wish I can give her 20 s but was only given an option of 5 .

I'll be a 30 year grad coming up in mid December. I was admitted on suicide watch. I didn't care how much it cost, I planned on being dead. My case was a bit complicated and a diagnosis and treatment plan took 2 weeks. I needed to do a lot of work in a totally safe place with the best guidance and The Meadows provided that. My life since hasn't been great all the time but it's been good overall. The main thing is that I learned to have a life, my own life, at The Meadows. My discharge papers weren't very encouraging but even that helped. I knew I'd have to use every single thing I learned. And I did. And here it is 30 years later.I can't thank this place enough.

They changed my life. Now I have a career helping people who struggle with mental health and addiction as I did.
They were extremely patient with my daughter who has anxiety with any doctor. They let her use a mirror to watch everything they did. She did really good because of them. Normally she s like nope I don t want to. But she actually let them do everything they needed to. The next test is the extraction. But I believe with this dentist she will let them.

Monica Mason, APRN, FNP-C, is exceptional at what she does. She takes the time to explain each step of your care, listens patiently, and treats you with genuine compassion. I felt truly cared for during my visits. The staff Miss Young, Arington, and the front desk team at Wellness Pointe on E. Marshall Street were all extremely professional and kind. I had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend this team to anyone seeking quality, attentive care.
This Amazing Black QUEEN ASHLEY IS THE WHOLE REASON I SAW CODAC APART BECAUSE OF HER ! When she was there an her clam kind understand while I was in a bad spot not like rude females that you usually get at places like this this place had the best staff an some are still there now not all but they were kind and still are and didn t make you feel less of a person for having addictions they actually treat you like a human being unlike most places and I want to Thank the Mat staff not all but the ones that I ve been with since day 1 Ruben /Val and a few I don t know names for being kind and treating me like a person not just a pay check at a job you hate especially dealing with with many people for many different addictions ect your the true reasons why I didn t just give up on bettering myself and. I ve been treated by Codac for many years and I give the staff 5 stars . Everyone has been professional, prompt and kind. Codac is not the only clinic I ve been treated by but they re definitely the best.! Thank you CODAC
The nurses and techs were all about you not being able to go home. They help you make it through your time being there. They make sure you have every thing you need or want. As long as it's okayed by your doctor. We got to go outdoors whenever the weather permitted. They did everything for us as people not inmates. Except for whenever we hadto go from different rooms. It wasn't so bad for my first time in a behavioral place to help me get better.

I have been coming to the bhc since I was 13 years old the staff is amazing and they treat me like family we laugh we joke and we show love both ways some of my the best staff are the ones that work SCU they show they care even when the patients are not being kind to them they show compassion I love bhc and if needed I would definitely go back

My son received excellent care. The entire care team supported him and guided him through the program. He is back to his funny, happy self. They kept me updated daily and made sure we had the tools we needed to succeed at home.

Insurance Plans Offered By HCSC
HCSC offers Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) insurance policies in five states. They generally don’t call themselves HCSC but instead use company names like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois or Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico. Through BCBS, they also have Medicare and Medicaid plans for those who qualify.
Many BCBS insurance plans are Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs). The best part of these plans is that they cost less. You need to use providers that are in the plan’s network, and there are no out of network benefits. You also choose a doctor to be your primary care provider, and that doctor will provide referrals to specialized care like drug rehab.
Some Blue Cross plans are Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs). These plans give you more choice in providers, but they are also more expensive each month. With a PPO you have a broader provider network and you don’t need referrals for specialized care. One thing that’s unique about a PPO is that you may also be able to get out of network coverage, although you’ll pay a higher percentage of the costs.
If you qualify, Medicare and Medicaid plans are also available through each state’s BCBS company. Medicare is generally available to those who are 65 and older, or those who are permanently disabled. Medicaid is free or low cost insurance for lower income residents of the state.
What Inpatient Rehab Does HCSC Cover?
HCSC will focus on covering evidence based treatment that’s in line with your doctor’s recommended care plan. Depending on your insurance, you may need a referral and/or preauthorization to get care. Here are some of the inpatient treatment options that might be covered.
Medical detox allows you to have medical help while substances leave your body, so you can get a fresh start in treatment. You don’t have to be afraid of detox when medical professionals are by your side to help you with withdrawal symptoms.
Residential treatment gives you a distraction free environment to start your recovery. One thing that’s neat about residential treatment is that you often get access to holistic treatment as well as traditional counseling. You’ll also have regular activities, recreation, and outings.
What Outpatient Treatment Does HCSC Cover?
Outpatient treatment lets you partake in your everyday life at home while receiving care so you can maintain contact with family and keep working or attending school. Outpatient programs can be challenging as you might encounter addiction triggers in your daily environment.
Most HCSC plans cover research supported treatments delivered via outpatient addiction programs. Outpatient treatments include different levels of care, such as standard outpatient programs, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), and partial hospitalization programs (PHP). Medication assisted treatment (MAT) might also be covered as part of outpatient care — combining medications with counseling and behavioral therapies.
It’s best to verify your coverage details with HCSC before initiating an outpatient treatment plan. Remember that you may need a referral or preauthorization for certain outpatient treatments and services. A medical professional’s thorough assessment is the best way to determine the right level of care for your individual needs.
Does HCSC Cover Methadone & Suboxone (MAT)?
Most HCSC plans will cover MAT—including methadone and Suboxone—when it’s considered a medical necessity. MAT is utilized in two phases of the recovery journey: During medical detox and as part of long term treatment.
The medical detox value of MAT lies in its capacity to manage acute physical withdrawal symptoms and reduce initial cravings. Medical professionals employ prescription medications like Suboxone or methadone to ease the physical distress of drug withdrawal. The FDA approved medicines can bind to the same chemical receptors as the drugs individuals abuse which minimizes discomfort and reduces the risk of dangerous complications as you get the drug out of your system. MAT in the medical detox phase is invaluable for individuals battling addiction because it helps them navigate safely—and comfortably—the first steps of their recovery journey which increases the likelihood of successful treatment completion.
During the long term treatment stage MAT helps tackle ongoing obstacles that get in the way of recovery. Medications like buprenorphine or methadone may be prescribed for their beneficial effects in diminishing drug cravings that can persist for many months. Prolonged substance abuse disrupts brain chemistry so prescription drugs with normalizing properties can be very helpful in establishing long term recovery.
The combination of FDA approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies makes MAT a valuable tool that improves treatment adherence and reduces relapse risk.
Remember to verify coverage before committing to a plan. You may need a referral or reauthorization as plans can differ regarding individual medications and coverage duration.
Does HCSC Cover Other Mental Healthcare?
Mental healthcare is listed in the Affordable Care Act as one of 10 essential health benefits so most plans will cover at least part of the cost.
Mental health can be addressed evidence based ways. Individual and group therapy may be covered as part of your plan as well as psychiatric medication management. Your plan may also cover assessments and evaluations. Depending on your insurance coverage inpatient and outpatient treatment options may be available for mental health.
It’s critical to understand that certain mental health conditions like anxiety or depression along with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and other disorders are associated with an elevated risk of substance abuse. Having a mental health diagnosis along with substance use is known as a co occurring disorder or dual diagnosis. If you have a dual diagnosis an integrative approach to addiction treatment and mental healthcare is fundamental for improving your chance of recovery long term.
It’s important to verify your insurance coverage before getting treatment. Some plans may have limitations or exclusions for certain services so always check with HCSC about the benefits that apply to you.
Does Addiction Treatment Need to Be In Network?
HCSC’s coverage for out of network addiction treatment depends on your plan’s characteristics. PPO plans provide some out of network coverage but you’ll pay much more out of pocket for these services. HMO plans do not cover out of network care. Many Medicare Advantage plans are HMOs, and Medicaid plans are limited to providers that accept the insurance plan in the state.
Using in network providers is strongly recommended as your best choice to keep out of pocket costs low and maximize your insurance’s benefits. Before initiating treatment double check your provider’s network status and other coverage details with HCSC. Out of network care may sometimes be necessary. However it can seriously increase your expenses so it’s best for you to use the network to your advantage.
