Does CareFirst Cover Addiction Treatment?
Most CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield plans offer addiction and mental health treatment coverage including drug rehabilitation. Two Federal laws mandate this coverage for most plans: the 2008 Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act and the 2010 Affordable Care Act. However there are exceptions to the laws, so be sure to verify your insurance details before starting rehab.
The amount of coverage you have depends on your specific policy. You could be required to go to a treatment center in the plan’s provider network and your doctor might need to preauthorize care before you begin rehab. Your out of pocket costs will vary as well.

Boca is an amazing place. The staff is absolutely amazing. I was fortunate enough to be able to work with Misty and Sondra. From day 1 until the day I left was a complete 180. Misty helped set me up for my next steps, and truly cares and checked in on me to make sure it was the right fit. She got to know understood me as a person and truly knew the right next steps for me to be set up for success. Highly recommend Boca.

I would like to thank God for sending me to BOCA Recovery Center. When I first got there I couldn't believe it. The place was immaculate. Everything was in order, From the staff to the cleanliness. The snack bar was always full. They even had their own drink machine. The nurse is always on duty. Anytime you need your medicine you got it. No matter the time. My bedroom had a flat screen TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Tubi, Pluto TV and much more. They have community cigarettes, Basketball Court and a Gazebo! I couldn't believe this place! They have a private chef! They feed you three times a day all hot meals. You also can also go to group. They have a big screen TV in the common area. So if you want to talk and watch TV you can! They also have a PS5! I couldn't feel more comfortable anywhere else! Thank You BOCA RECOVERY CENTER for a 10 star detox!

The moment I walked in I felt welcome and never neglected. From the Program director, to the nurses and techs. Every person in this program will treat you like family. I also got everything I ever needed when I needed. I couldn’t have gone to a better place. I got all the support I needed and more everyday. Awesome place with awesome people! I truly felt like every staff member cared about me and my recovery journey every day. Justin the case manager always had an open door to talk when I needed. Karen the program director and David the operations director helping me get paperwork filled out as painlessly as possible. Jeramiah, Lisa, Winnie, Jessie, and Tony on the nursing staff always ready with a smile and positive attitude. JJ, Lane, and Isabel, the techs that put up with me daily with a smile on their face no matter what I did. I can't recommend Laguna View Detox enough. Phenomenal place more than what I expected RTC has truly changed my life. From the moment I walked through their doors, I was met with compassion, professionalism, and unwavering support. I don’t usually write public reviews about something as personal as substance use treatment, but the care I’ve received at Recovery Team - Cape Cod is worth breaking that rule.
I came here after a 20-day detox, thinking I had my substance use disorder under control and didn’t really need a PHP program. But I figured, “What the hell, I’ll give it a shot.” That decision turned out to be one of the best I’ve made in my recovery journey.
The group sessions are truly engaging, and the exposure to different tools and coping strategies has been invaluable. The recovery community here is one of the strongest in the nation. I initially committed to just two weeks—but ended up staying for the full four, and I’m even considering sober housing now.
The staff have shown me nothing but genuine care and commitment. I’ve never once felt like just another “client.” They’ve treated me like a real person—with hopes, struggles, and a future worth fighting for.
If you’re on the fence about starting a PHP or IOP program, I couldn’t recommend this program more. Sure, there might be flashier or more luxurious programs out there—but ask yourself: are you looking to be pampered, or are you ready to gain the tools you need to build the best life possible?
Lantana is the best place on earth and beyond! This place saved my life!! I’m so glad I chose this place to start my life over and learn to live again! Lantana gave me a chance at life again. I’m an alcoholic and an addict. I’ve lived inside places. I’ve been to dozens of treatments. The counselors and staff at Lantana gave me hope and shed a new light on recovery for me. I had reached the end of my rope; I was tired and sick of letting myself and my family down. Lantana showed me that recovery was possible for someone who had become as jaded about 12 step programs as me. I felt comfortable here and I got honest. I mean really honest and I got the help I needed. Thank you Lantana, I recommend this program for anyone who wants access into an all inclusive program that introduces its clientele to all forms of recovery from dharma to ACT, DBT, CBT and AA. Lantana gave me my life back.

I called the narcotics anonymous hotline about my son and they arranged for us to take him to Boca. My son didn't really want to go, but he went and was so glad he did. He is now over 5 months clean and doing extremely well. Thank you, Boca, for giving me my son back. He had nothing but great things to say about the way he was treated at your facility. CareFirst offers individual, group, Medicaid, Medicare, dental, and prescription drug healthcare coverage. The individual plans are designed to address individuals and their family’s needs. The plans have different policy limitations based on location. CareFirst offers employer group insurance to companies with 2 to 20,000 employees.
The Medicaid plan covers individuals of all ages living in Maryland from children to the elderly as well as persons with chronic disabilities.

What Inpatient Addiction Treatment Does CareFirst Cover?
Most insurance companies focus on medically necessary care, and inpatient care is for those who need help to become medically stable and ready to start a less intensive treatment program. You must have a treatment plan set up with your doctor that shows what’s medically necessary in your case.
Inpatient treatment may include medically supervised detox, during which a group of professionals oversee your detoxification and ensure that you’re safe. Medications and other treatments are often used to help lessen the blow of withdrawal.
Inpatient and residential treatment programs are highly structured, supportive programs that have a high rate of success. While an outpatient treatment program may involve four to five hours of care a day, inpatient treatment is around the clock, and you have the support of medical staff and your peers during this time.
With inpatient treatment, you have a safe place to uncover triggers and develop coping mechanisms without the noise and temptations of the outside world. Inpatient programs also help you transition back to “real life” once you’re ready in a way that is best for you.
What Outpatient Rehab Does CareFirst Cover?
Outpatient care comes in several forms. Partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) offer treatment while allowing the patient to return home daily. These programs are highly structured and include medical and therapeutic care, with a commitment of about 20 hours a week. These flexible and cost-effective programs ensure a recovery community as you transition back to life after treatment. They also provide autonomy and accountability that will help you stay sober long-term.
Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) are ideal for those who don’t need round-the-clock support or supervision. They’re designed to offer support, prevent relapse, and help develop coping strategies. With an IOP, you’ll engage in group, individual, and alternative therapies, as well as support groups. These programs are often structured, flexible, and affordable and provide opportunities to practice recovery skills.
General outpatient treatment takes place in designated addiction rehab facilities, community mental health centers, and hospitals. Most require a commitment of 3-4 hours a day, 3-4 days a week, and usually last about 10 weeks. These programs are ideal for those with more moderate addictions.

Does Addiction Treatment Need to Be in Network?
