Equine-Assisted therapy (EAT) is a highly specialized form of experiential therapy that involves working in collaboration with a horse, a therapist, and in some cases, a certified horse handler or equine expert. The term encompasses a range of therapeutic modalities that involve activities with horses and other equines which are designed to promote physical and mental health.
It’s widely known that working with animals provides people with a sense of companionship, comfort, and a strong sense of well-being. The origins of equine-assisted therapy date back to 600 BC in ancient Greece, when horses were involved in therapeutic riding. Throughout history, horses have been used to help treat a variety of disabilities and illnesses, including polio. Since the 1990s, equine-assisted therapy has assisted in the treatment of physical and mental health disorders, including ADHD, anxiety, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance abuse.
The overarching goal of equine-assisted therapy is to help individuals develop a sense of personal responsibility while learning new social skills and coping mechanisms; all of which can be highly beneficial to anyone recovering from a substance abuse disorder. What is Equine Therapy?
Equine Therapy, also known as Equine-Assisted Therapy (EAT) or Equine-Assisted Activities and Therapy (EAAT), is a holistic and experiential form of animal-assisted therapy where participants learn how to work with horses to feed, groom, halter, and lead them. Horse-assisted therapy may or may not include horseback riding, depending on the specific kind of therapy and the condition being treated.
The purpose of equine therapy is to help patients identify, explore, and develop new skills, coping mechanisms, and ways of thinking that can benefit them long-term.
While studies into the effectiveness of EAT are still limited, equine-assisted therapy has been shown to have a positive effect in as little as 2-3 sessions. It can help people develop the following:
- Assertiveness
- Ability to connect
- Confidence
- Emotional growth
- Improved impulse control
- Increased self-esteem
- Increased sense of trust in oneself and others
- Problem-solving
- Self-awareness
- Social skills

For this reason, many addiction recovery centers offer equine therapy as a treatment option. By working with horses, those receiving treatment for alcohol and drug abuse can learn the necessary tools required to maintain sobriety and navigate the world free of addiction.
Different Types of Equine Therapy
There are different kinds of equine therapy programs, each with specific goals for the people involved. Some of the most common types of horse-assisted therapy that are used as part of addiction treatment programs include:
Equine-assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)
EAP involves mental health professionals that work alongside patients and clients to help them learn about their own behavior and patterns. During therapy sessions, patients will participate in activities with the horses and then work with the therapist to discuss and process feelings that come up during the experience. Since horses are non-judgemental creatures, EAP creates a safe environment for individuals to work through complex feelings associated with addiction, while building new positive skills.
No prior horse or riding experience is necessary to participate in equine-assisted psychotherapy. Since all therapeutic activities are done from the ground, it is completely safe and suitable for a wide range of different abilities.
Hippotherapy
The term hippotherapy comes from the Greek word hippos, which translates to horse. During hippotherapy, an occupational therapist, a physiotherapist, or a speech and language pathologist work alongside an equine specialist, the patient and a horse. The patient is encouraged to adjust their posture based on different movements of the horse. The goal of hippotherapy is to allow the horse to lead the patient, as opposed to having the patient control the horse.
Hippotherapy is often used as part of a broader program to treat conditions such as cerebral palsy, where a person experiences impairments, disabilities, functional limitations, and neuromotor and sensory dysfunction. However, it can also be used as part of addiction treatment programs. Relinquishing control and allowing the horse to lead can be a powerful lesson in humility and trust, which can be very beneficial to people recovering from addiction.
Therapeutic Horseback Riding
During therapeutic horseback riding, individuals work with a team of equine specialists, which usually includes a certified therapeutic riding instructor, two or more volunteers, and a horse. Patients will learn how to ride a horse and work with it on the ground. In addition to learning how to ride a horse, therapeutic horseback riding allows participants to develop physical and social skills that help support them on their journey of sobriety. This includes increased self-awareness, improved communication skills, increased physical fitness, greater trust in oneself and others, enhanced problem solving skills, more confidence and a sense of accomplishment and pride.
How Does Equine Therapy Work?
Equine-assisted therapy is performed by a licensed mental health professional working with a certified equine handler. Centers which are certified to administer horse-assisted therapy only use suitable horses for treatment programs. These are usually older mares and geldings.
Therapy sessions generally take place at a dedicated equine therapy facility that’s either standalone or associated with an inpatient rehab center. To ensure the therapeutic experience is tailored to an individual’s personal needs, the therapist will meet with patients beforehand to learn more about their background and treatment goals.
During individualized therapy sessions, the patient works with a licensed therapist, a certified equine specialist and a horse that they’ve selected, often as part of the therapeutic treatment plan. Depending on the kind of horse-assisted therapy, horseback riding isn’t necessarily involved. Instead, the patient will learn how to feed, groom and walk the horse. Patients are encouraged to practice mindfulness and pay attention to how the horse responds to their behavior.
While engaging in equine therapy, patients are able to see their own tendencies, including self-defeating or otherwise destructive thought patterns. Such insights provide both patient and therapist a unique base from which to discuss and process emotions both during and after the experience. As a result, EAT therapy sessions may also involve elements from traditional talk therapy, such as mirroring, role play and role reversal.
Benefits of Equine Therapy
Many of the benefits of equine therapy can be attributed to the characteristics of horses themselves. Horses are large, majestic creatures known for their gentle and calm nature. Learning to work with a horse can help people overcome fear and build confidence.
As pack animals, horses are highly sensitive to other creatures. This includes an ability to mirror and respond to human behavior. As a result, horses are very adept at interacting and working with humans in an even-tempered and non-judgmental way, which can be particularly supportive for people who are in the process of addiction recovery.
Equine therapy can also be very beneficial in helping people restore their trust in themselves and others. Individuals who struggle to express their emotions or form relationships, often find it easier to do so with a horse. Equine therapy allows people to form a close emotional bond with a horse based on shared affection, acceptance, and mutual respect.
Since horses frequently mirror the behavior, demeanor, and moods of the humans they interact with, a patient can actually see the effect they’re having on the animal, including how it shifts when they show up differently. Through equine-assisted therapy, horses help model and provide valuable lessons about affection, assertiveness, honest communication skills, healthy boundaries, leadership, responsibility, patience, play, self-awareness, and more.
Equine therapy also provides therapists with a direct channel through which to observe and assist the patient with a range of emotional and behavioral patterns associated with addiction, trauma, and mental health disorders.
Mental Health and Equine Therapy
While equine therapy is a relatively new facet of mental health and addiction treatment, data suggests it can be very beneficial. A 2008 study published in the journal of Clinical Practice and Epidemiology in Mental Health, found that individuals who engaged in equine therapy while receiving mental health treatment for conditions such as anxiety, schizophrenia, and personality disorders, reported higher levels of self-esteem and healthy coping mechanisms.
Equine therapy is commonly used to treat the following mental health conditions:
Anxiety
It’s estimated that 17 million Americans are affected by anxiety. Those who suffer from anxiety disorders often are worried about their past and their future. Through interacting with and caring for horses, equine-assisted therapy gives individuals the opportunity to be present and focus on the tasks at hand. In addition to the psychological benefits of horse-assisted therapy, working with horses can reduce people’s blood pressure and heart rate, which in turn can help calm the physical symptoms of anxiety.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
According to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, approximately 12 million Americans live with PTSD. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is also one of the most common root causes of drug and alcohol addiction. Equine therapy is used to treat people suffering from PTSD and co-occurring disorders. People who’ve been diagnosed with PTSD often struggle with trusting and forming emotional bonds with other people. Through equine therapy, individuals with PTSD can regain the ability to trust and form connections, which can translate to emotional growth in other areas of their lives.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Therapeutic horseback riding is often recommended for people with ADHD because caring for and riding a horse can help improve focus, organization, and executive functioning. The rhythmic stride of a horse can also be very calming.
In addition to the conditions mentioned above, equine-assisted therapy is also used to treat autism, behavioral problems, depression, eating disorders, grief, and more.
How Equine-Assisted Therapy Is Used in Addiction Treatment Programs
Mental health and substance abuse disorders are intrinsically linked. At least 20% of people with mental health conditions have a co-occurring substance use disorder. For people with schizophrenia, the number may be as high as 50%. Comparatively, people with substance use disorders are up to 3 times more likely to suffer from a mental health condition such as anxiety or depression.
Equine-assisted psychotherapy provides a uniquely beneficial approach to treating both drug addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions by helping people work through the underlying causes of addiction, develop a positive sense of self-worth and learn new coping mechanisms.
In addition to the benefits outlined above, a 2016 study found that the active outdoor environment can be more beneficial for some individuals as compared to traditional talk therapy focused addiction treatment. In that same study, participants reported that the stable environment allowed them to construct a positive self: one which is useful, responsible, accepted and different from the “patient/self” receiving treatment for alcohol and drug addiction.
Equine therapy programs provide addiction treatment patients with a new focus. Through working with horses, people learn how to take responsibility for their actions and maintain a consistent schedule.
Depending on the recovery center, equine therapy is offered as a treatment option in conjunction with other holistic, experiential and evidence-based therapies as part of a comprehensive alcohol and drug rehab program.
Effectiveness of Equine-Assisted Therapy
While more addiction treatment facilities are now offering equine-assisted therapy, research into it’s effectiveness is still scarce. The research that does exist is largely focused on the effectiveness of equine therapy in treating physical conditions and disabilities, as oppossed to addiction and mental health disorders. A 2019 review published in the Australian Journal of Psychology looked at the various studies on the effectiveness of equine therapy and found that while some studies reported improvements on a range of outcome measures, others found no change.
As a result, equine therapy is often paired with other evidence-based therapies as part of a comprehensive addiction treatment program.
Cost, Side Effects, and Other Considerations
While equine-assisted therapy can be beneficial to those undergoing treatment for drug addiction and co-occurring disorders, like any kind of therapy there are several key considerations to keep in mind.
Accreditation and certification
Since horse-assisted therapy is a highly specialized form of treatment, it’s vital that you seek treatment from an accredited facility. In the United States, there are two major organizations that certify equine centers: the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association and the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH).
Availability
Since 1969, PATH has certified 873 centers around the world that offer a variety of horse-assisted therapeutic activities. In 2016, these PATH-certified facilities served over 66,000 people — a number that rose to more than 68,000 in 2017. However, as of 2017 only 244 PATH certified centers were associated with addiction treatment centers. Therefore, there’s a chance that those seeking equine-assisted therapy may not be able to find a certified facility in their local community.
Insurance coverage
Equine-assisted therapy is growing in popularity, but there are still limited scientific studies as to its effectiveness in treating substance abuse disorders and mental health conditions. Therefore, depending on coverage, insurance may not cover part or even any of the costs.
Cost
The cost of equine-assisted therapy varies depending on a variety of factors, including the location and the kind of therapy which is offered. Whereas therapeutic riding lessons may cost $80 to $115 per hour-long session, equine-assisted psychotherapy is generally more costly; averaging $115 to $300 for an hour-long session.
Side-effects
While negative side effects to horse-assisted therapy are rare, there have been reported incidents of lowered self-esteem and increased aggression in children and young adult participants. This can occur when a young person becomes attached to a horse and then has to say goodbye to their companion when therapy is over.
Supervision by a mental health professional
Difficult emotions may arise during a horse-assisted therapy program. Therefore, it’s crucial that equine therapy sessions are closely monitored by a mental health professional who is present at all times and can help patients work through any feelings that come up.

My partner spent 9 weeks here last fall. Having tried other inpatient and outpatient programs, I can say that Soberman’s truly helped him discover what life was worth living for. The staff and the care they provide are top-notch. I think this place truly saved his life. From a family perspective, I really appreciated how they included me and others in his family in his care. The family support calls and the ability to do family therapy sessions helped me understand his journey better, but to also understand my role in all of this. Hello im Ashley and im an addict. My whole life has been filled with chaos and trauma. Some from my own doing and some that wasnt my fault. There is not a single bad word i can say abouy my experience at Beachway Therapy Center. My time there was cut short thanks to my own self-sabotaging behavior. Even then Beachway still treated me with compassion and the desire to help me. My situation was a unusual one. I came into the trauma program with a clean date of April 16th 2014. So at 11 years clean i was dealing with bipolar disorder, intense anxiety, a very unhealthy toxic relationship and an intense desire to break generational curses for my children. My history is one that involves homelessness, street drugs and a street mentality. Beachway took on the challenge of helping me work thru that trauma. I opened up to the program and other woman like never before. I had an amazing counselor, amazing case manager, and amazing staff that were there anytime i had moments of high anxiety or worry. I am so disappointed i ruined my chances of having a chance at going thru a trauma program with Beachway. Just in the short time i was there i did gain a small sense of self back. If you were like me and worry about making friends with the other clients because they wont understand you or like you, that is not even close to true. I found a sense of community that i couldnt find anywhere else in my life. If i manage to find a magic lamp, one of my wishes would definitely be used on looking young forever after that id wish to feel the peace and serenity i felt at Beachway. Thanks to them i had just enough courage to get me and my kids out of my bad situation. Now my goal is to continue with trauma therapy. Do not be me and let your past dictate your future. No matter how clean you are from drugs that trauma will creep up on you and when it does use tools like Beachway to seek help instead of the alternative, and please for the love of your higher power get out of your own way and accept their help before you get kicked out like i did. I am forever grateful. Thanks for letting me share my expierence, strength and hope.

My experience at Banyan was very good. The staff was very helpful, the therapy was extremely beneficial , and the food was great! Like with all rehabs, it is what you make of it. If you go there thinking everything is perfect, you’ll be disappointed, it’s not. If you go for simply a social experience, it’s not a resort. If you go because you’re serious about your recovery, it’s a great place to take the first step !

Loved Beachway. I was extremely anxious with everyday panic attacks, and the medicine was no longer working. At Beachway I found a way to control my attacks and anxiety. It is not easy and sometimes I felt like it wasn’t going to work.
We worked through my childhood traumas and I learned techniques on how to defuse my anxiety.

Wonderful staff and program. The groups are thought out, planned and executed successfully. You can tell the staff are all on the same page when it comes to patient care. Addiction and substance abuse are addressed with compassion and professionalism. Even more than that, the program provides a crash course in mental health which services all aspects of life.Highly recommend for anyone suffering from any level of substance abuse. I m writing this as a parent. After researching several residential facilities it became apparent Peaks in Colorado Springs stood out from the others. We were specifically looking for mental health treatment. From start to finish at their facility there was always involvement in what was going on, (with my adult daughter s permission of course). Having caring and knowledgeable people to help through an incredibly hard time was needed and so appreciated. Through different stages of her care there was visitation, phone calls and weekly Zoom type meetings where families of clients could talk together with a therapist about highs, lows or concerns. The hardest thing to do was feeling like you are handing over your loved one at such a vulnerable time and not knowing what s going on. Peaks has so much compassion in knowing that. IT’S A YES. JUST GO.Unfortunately, an issue at home meant my stay ended early – there was a tragic miscommunication amongst staff the day before as well, which they handled with the utmost integrity. It was certainly the only snafu in my experience, and it rightfully belongs in the “sh*t happens” category. Staff had the humility and courage to own the mistake, and that willingness alone was enough to know that I had come to a place full of people who are truly the real deal when it comes to mental health.I left because I had to – not because I wanted to. In fact, I was planning on extending 30 days to complete their PHP, but life called me back home.Make no mistake – were it not for having to leave to handle something horrific back home (I’m from the other side of the country), I would still be there. I woke up this morning aching to go back to the safety, the compassion, the grace, and the mercy of Peaks. The staff are beyond wonderful. They sat with me through the darkest day of my life, and did nothing but love me. I can’t describe how supported I felt. I could literally *feel* the empathy of the clinicians, nurses, and medical providers who sat with me and held space through the worst two panic attacks I’ve ever had.My housemates and I, and especially my roommate, wove a web of support and belonging I had never experienced. (Prior to admission, I literally could not get out of bed or do anything remotely social – I was even finding it hard to leave the house). I had the BEST time being part of a community, which gave me new confidence, and reassurance that I could get back into the game of life.I’m a therapist myself and I would 100% recommend Peaks as a committed, compassionate, caring healing space of the very highest quality. These people have their sh*t together.I have never encountered a place full of people who truly WANT to be there for you. Imagine being asked multiple times per day by staff if there is anything you need to feel supported. Being surrounded by people who know and care whether you’ve eaten that day, how you slept last night, and whether you need anything else to feel safe was pretty mind-boggling.I would trust Peaks to treat my nearest and dearest with zero hesitation. It will be the only mental health treatment center to which I refer my clients. Thank God for Peaks.Certainly I will forget to name some of the incredible staff, but Faith, Kinnley, Clint, Kara, Holly, Angela, Dr. Nichols, Sasha, JUDY, Cindy, Kyle, Pema, Julia, Chef, Taylor, Tara, Logan (x2), Heather, Eric, Marissa, the various therapists who led group, Bobby, Max in admissions, and Rachel – thank you for giving me a home, and at long last, an accurate mirror. Thank you also for tolerating my dirty blue hair and my massive disco fruit snuggie. I miss everyone already.Although I only got to stay for 10(ish) of the 30 days I had planned, the changes in me are real. I came into Peaks as a 47 year-old adult child, and left as a grown-up.Thank you, Peaks, for turning me back into me. Thank you for restoring my dignity. I will carry a piece of you in my heart always with immense gratitude. There is something spiritual in the particles and energy at this place that truly brought me back to life.

As someone in a grey area, i had more clear thoughts than people i was in with. Many things I heard from people who still needed to allow their brain to heal is “they just want our money” yet they are one of the few places that actually help people who can’t afford the treatment. And their staff is empathetic and know what you are going through. Trust them they are good people and their system works.I was reluctant at first over the 12 steps. I’m not an addict, i have substance abuse occasionally throughout my life but I’m not disordered that way. But my mental health has been unmanageable so I sought treatment. But im in a gray area stuck in PA due to insurance.Theres not many places for that kind of treatment. Still they again went above and beyond to help.I had to stay more days than I wanted for the result i needed. I had to let them do their jobs, and I did even though I thought I knew the result, which was I’m my opinion ‘hopeless’But the last day I gave them, they found somewhere. And ironically even though I found a place specifically for mental health, I still have to take those 12 steps for the housing. Not for the program if signed up for. For the housing since the program has third party housing where its required.Thats when I realized what they kept saying was true. ‘we wish people who weren’t addicts took those steps’ Everyone can benefit from them, even if that higher powers a door knob. Its is blessed by God to help the sick and suffering. Theyre beautiful steps. Which i realized in there, but i didn’t think theyd applied to me.I had thought I already took them. I know my resentments and I know where I’m at fault. I have a higher power and I know I’m powerless, but in all reality I never took those first 3 steps properly. And my resentments and faults go deeper than the cycle of anxiety allows me to see.I needed that introduction to it to see that. Immediately coming back to triggers I realized so much due to the information i was given within those walls. Again these are blessed people. You might wanna run when you get in, you might not understand the process, but trust me, and trust the process.You will be baffled by the results if you just do what they say and take those 12 steps. There you should master the first 3, and you’ll be introduced to the rest to properly pick out a good sponsor when you get to the next place. You need someone who will throughly go over the rest with you and they train you to seek that if you listen.Do it so you can be baffled by the results and live a good life.

Stop researching treatment centers because this one is hands down the best!! I’ve been to several treatment centers and The Ridge is in a league of their own- for all the good reasons! Yes, it is a beautiful home like atmosphere with a lot of luxuries and outstanding food but the main reason I found The Ridge so helpful to me was the loving and supportive staff and amazing program. And the support doesn’t stop when you leave! I enrolled in IOP and am plugged into the many alumni events they host. My recovery community is filled today with Ridge Alum and I owe my recovery to the tools I learned at The Ridge and all the continue support I get from them.

The Ridge is an incredible place to go to for treatment. They keep you plenty busy with group therapy sessions as well as 1 on 1 sessions with a councilor, and there are lots of things to do during recreation time. I’m grateful I was able to find a treatment center with staff that truly care about me and work to foster a friendly environment among all patients. This is an excellent residential program where you are not locked onto a unit. There is full access to the absolutely stunning campus. The staff is kind and can relate as most are also in recovery. The food is fantastic with home cooking by Matt, Jon & Eric. I received the best treatment through group therapy, individual therapy, family therapy & case management. The nursing staff is top notch & available 24/7. I highly recommend Spring Hill for the best substance abuse recovery experience out there.

I am so glad I picked next step recovery in Asheville. I ve been to many treatment facilities and next step recovery was surely my absolute favorite for many reasons. I have just recently completed the program and found it extremely helpful in many ways. Next step recovery feels warm, welcoming and understood by everyone. The PHP program here is excellent! Group facilitators are knowledgeable and compassionate, therapists are professional and the housing is amazing and well managed. When I came to URP I was welcomed with open arms from the staff to the residents! I never thought it would work for me because I was an isolated person and didn’t talk to anyone. My daughter was just came home from treatment at Lakeview/Stepping Stone! After a very long struggle with alcohol, as a family we gave her an ultimatum to go to this facility for treatment. I was a resident at Lakeview for 42 days. I am an older person and was apprehensive about fitting in . There was no need to worry I was treated with respect and dignity. My alcohol addiction came later in life and a family member found Lakeview for me. I have read many reviews both positive and negative. I must say that I was cared for and cared about. I was a resident with women from all walks of life and ethnicities and I saw treatment equally across the board. When there were objections from fellow residents about treatment I was able to see both sides however , my observation was that many times there was an unwillingness on the part of the resident to completely comply to the prescribed regimen. This is not a place to go if you want to be coddled. If that s the case you may not be ready for recovery. But I can tell you I worked the program, gave myself over to the process of recovery and came out the other side. I certainly ran up against obstacles but this program taught me how to deal with them in a positive successful manner. I would personally like to recognize Karen, Kaylee, Shanna, Meredith and Suneeta to name just a few. The therapists are a great group, but it goes much deeper than that. The staff is there 24/7 and I was made to feel safe at all times through their dedication and teamwork.If you want to free yourself of addiction and are ready for a new life consider this treatment. I can tell you I didn t always agree with some protocol but this program gave me the tools to state my concerns, be heard and come to a resolution that benefitted me and stay in compliance with Lakeview s policies.

The staff was very kind and helpful. 24 hour nurses on staff is a must and very appreciated being someone that had problems sleeping from withdrawals. The classroom was engaging and helpful, the teachers did a great job explaining how to be successful at staying sober. I m almost 1.5 years clean and never have cravings but know what to do if I did. You can t pick who your in there with but it feels so good being around people that know what your goin thru and like to talk and get to know you. Wish I had more of those people when I was there but it is what it is, gotta stay positive and focus on getting better regardless. They have lots of games to play which was a blast and a great way to keep the time rolling. I would definitely go back there if I needed to, I feel a lot stronger and better off after getting treatment there.

Going to Tranquillity Woods was the best decisions I ever made and it probably saved my life. Between the clinicians and mental health professionals, I learned how to love myself again and my self worth. Tranquility Woods was a perfect center to build a foundation for my recovery. 4 mental health sessions per week, group sessions, guest speakers and a strong community all played a huge part in learning the tools for a strong and sustainable recovery. All of the staff are incredibly helpful and accommodating. You get out what you put into it. If you are serious about your recovery, this is the place to go.

The staff here truly cares about your wellbeing. This is unlike any other recovery center and by far the best one out there! I highly, highly recommend coming here. I never felt like it was a money grab or a clinical setting. I felt safe, at home, able to be open, honest, and vulnerable to achieve my sobriety and recovery. Continuum was able to help me break through to the heart of my addiction and trauma by connecting with others in my IOP group that I now consider family. George is the best therapist I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He has shown me ways to cope with not just daily struggles, but the deeper issues that have had long term effects that sometimes I am not aware of. By creating a place of safety and comfort, I am now able to say I do not fear recovery or connection with others anymore – and that is 100% due to George and Continuum. He truly cares about the people he serves, and I have never felt so much love from someone outside of family (which I now consider him). If there ever was a place to discover connection and healing, it is Continuum.

Futures is truly life changing. The staff is very professional and supportive. They work with you while going through some tough times. Future’s program is great. I learned so much about myself which is what is at the core of recovery. The staff made sure I was comfortable throughout my stay as well. They all really show how much they care. I struggled with drug addiction for 20 years. Could never break the cycle where I lived in Alabama 37 yrs of my life. I was out of options. My insurance found Paramount Recovery Centers in Massachusetts. I got ahold of them and they started the process to get me up here. They was a true blessing. Helped pay for my plane tickets and got me up here. I went thru 6 months of PHP program and then outpatient. My cousin has struggled with addiction for most of his adult life. He s been to countless rehabs, tried meditation and even hypnosis to get over his issues with substances. It wasn t until he joined Paramount Recovery Centers PHP that he actually began to embrace sobriety as his new norm. You see, what my cousin never had was a sense of community, and that is exactly what Paramount provided. It was clear from the moment I dropped him off with the clinical staff that he was going to be in good hands. Without Paramount my cousin may be in jail or even worse, deceased. We will always remember Paramount as the place that saved his life.
