Discover Regence Insurance coverage for addiction treatment, including inpatient and outpatient options, and get the support you need.

Regence Insurance is a subsidiary of the nonprofit healthcare organization Cambia Health Solutions and a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield network of insurance companies.

Regence offers individual and family plans through employers and state Insurance Marketplaces in in four northwestern states – IdahoWashingtonOregon, and Utah. They also have Medicare plan options. Regence members can access wellness resources for weight loss and fitness and rewards for meeting their wellness goals.

In 2020, Regence Insurance in Oregon started a new initiative that made them the first insurance company in the nation to directly address medication safety through data sharing. They partnered with two health providers–MultiCare and Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU)–to verify patient medication history upon discharge from the hospital. This collaboration streamlined the process of medication information review and ensured greater patient safety.

Does Regence Insurance Cover Addiction Treatment?

In compliance with the 2010 Affordable Care Act (ACA) most Regence Insurance plans provide coverage for rehab. The ACA requires most insurance plans to cover 10 essential health benefits which include substance use and mental health treatment.

However there are exceptions to the law and individual plans will have different requirements and limits for the coverage they offer. That’s why it’s important to verify your insurance details before you begin treatment.

It’s also a good idea to work with your doctor to create a treatment plan which will help the insurance company determine what care is medically necessary for your needs.

Phenomenal place more than what I expected RTC has truly changed my life. From the moment I walked through their doors, I was met with compassion, professionalism, and unwavering support. Every member of the team—from the counselors to the support staff—was not only knowledgeable, but genuinely invested in my recovery journey. The individualized care I received made all the difference. They didn’t treat me like just another patient; they listened, tailored my treatment plan, and helped me build the tools I needed to stay clean and take back control of my life. The therapy sessions were impactful, the group environment was supportive, and the relapse prevention strategies were practical and empowering. What stood out most was the sense of community and hope. I never felt judged—only understood. If you're struggling with addiction and looking for a place that will truly help you heal, RTC is the place to go. I can honestly say I wouldn't be where I am today without them. Thank you, RTC, for helping me find myself again. -

I don’t usually write public reviews about something as personal as substance use treatment, but the care I’ve received at Recovery Team - Cape Cod is worth breaking that rule. I came here after a 20-day detox, thinking I had my substance use disorder under control and didn’t really need a PHP program. But I figured, “What the hell, I’ll give it a shot.” That decision turned out to be one of the best I’ve made in my recovery journey. The group sessions are truly engaging, and the exposure to different tools and coping strategies has been invaluable. The recovery community here is one of the strongest in the nation. I initially committed to just two weeks—but ended up staying for the full four, and I’m even considering sober housing now. The staff have shown me nothing but genuine care and commitment. I’ve never once felt like just another “client.” They’ve treated me like a real person—with hopes, struggles, and a future worth fighting for. If you’re on the fence about starting a PHP or IOP program, I couldn’t recommend this program more. Sure, there might be flashier or more luxurious programs out there—but ask yourself: are you looking to be pampered, or are you ready to gain the tools you need to build the best life possible?

Tree House Recovery is located in Costa Mesa, California. It is a men's only addiction treatment facility. Insurance is accepted. Financing from a lender is also accepted. A Transformative Path to Recovery: Runway and Treehouse Recovery My journey to sustained sobriety began at Runway, a premier short-term stabilization facility in Santa Ana, California. Designed for individuals in crisis, Runway offers 24-hour monitoring in comfortable, well-appointed accommodations, including private bedrooms, an on-site cook, and a dedicated nursing staff. A compassionate team of five to six professionals provides individualized care, preparing patients for a seamless transition to long-term treatment. Runway’s structured yet nurturing environment makes it an exceptional choice for immediate, high-quality intervention. After stabilization, I transitioned to Treehouse Recovery to address a complex history of alcohol addiction, combat-related injuries, and a rare psychotic episode triggered by marijuana use. The Treehouse staff’s expertise in treating combat veterans navigating reintegration and substance abuse was remarkable. Their swift, targeted response to my unique challenges laid a critical foundation for my recovery. Treehouse’s program distinguishes itself through a robust team-based approach, which fosters accountability, camaraderie, and personal growth. Patients are organized into small, cohesive units that collaborate on daily tasks, from meal preparation and facility maintenance to group sports and weightlifting. This model mirrors the discipline and interdependence of military teams, which was particularly resonant for me as a veteran. For example, morning team raft exercises in the surf required synchronized paddling, teaching us to trust one another and communicate effectively under pressure. These activities were more than physical; they instilled a sense of shared purpose and mutual reliance, reinforcing the skills needed for long-term sobriety. By working closely with peers, I rebuilt self-esteem, learned to embrace responsibility, and developed a support network that extended beyond the program. This team dynamic was a cornerstone of my recovery, providing a safe space to confront vulnerabilities and celebrate collective achievements. Beyond its team-based framework, Treehouse emphasizes the physiological and biological aspects of addiction, moving beyond traditional talk therapy. Physical training restored my strength and confidence, while the program’s focus on leadership in its latter half prepared me for a successful return to everyday life. Over a year later, I remain sober, with strengthened family ties and renewed self-confidence. The ongoing support from Runway and Treehouse, through regular check-ins, reflects their commitment to clients’ long-term success. Their tailored, family-like approach creates a global network of support that empowers individuals to thrive post-treatment. I wholeheartedly recommend Runway and Treehouse Recovery to anyone seeking a path to lasting recovery. These facilities not only saved my life but also provided the tools and community to build a brighter, more fulfilling future. Sincerely, Charlie

I showed up to Treehouse ready to change but i didn't know how to make these changes. Anything i tried alone always seemed to fail until i was accepted into the treehouse family. They showed me how to handle simple to complex tasks with a rational clear thinking mind. They gave me the tools and confidence to stay in a state of gratitude day in and day out. They solidified my hard working ethics and gave me a place to call home. We worked hard and we had a lot of fun. I particularly love the ocean (surfing, diving, skimboarding) so being on the boats with the team was my favorite part of the physical modalities. I owe it big time to the clinical staff for listening intently, caring and asking the right questions at the right time to help me work through a lifetime of baggage.

This place has been a magical, healing, life changing experience. I have struggled with addiction to serious drugs for over 20 years. I also struggle with mental health. I have been to 11 different treatment facilities. Some of them really good. This place blew them all out of the water. The setting is phenomenal. It’s located on 70+ acres of the most beautiful mountain setting that Mass has to offer. The sunrises are breathtaking. It’s like an enchanted forest. The bunnies and chipmunks and baby dear are adorable and amazing. I stayed in the ‘poets’, these amazing, spacious log cabins with cathedral ceilings. When I walked in the first time I cried in gratitude. The beds are comfy, you have plenty of privacy, and it’s a space I would stay at on vacation. The food is top notch. I don’t think I was served a single bad meal. The head cook, Matt, is so accommodating. It feels like home. You always have the option of a delicious salad bar, leftovers are available until 11 at night. I couldn’t asked to be better taken care of. Most of the RS staff are in recovery which is amazing. They are the most devoted caring staff I have ever had the privilege of knowing. And you do get to know them, their personal struggles and victories, they give you hope that this is possible. They were inspirational. Thank you to all of you: Chris, Justin, Lisa, Owen, Jess, Andrew, Steve, Brandon, Tim, Courtney, Moe, Ryan, Pete, Greg, Alina, Mark, Jamie. I hope I didn’t forget anyone. And of course I can’t forget the RS supervisor, John, who does an amazing job managing an amazing staff. You guys never ignored me, constantly asked how I was doing, and knew me well enough to know when I was down. I didn’t have a single request that wasn’t immediately dealt with in a kind way. Down to wanting printouts of watercolor painting ideas. I got ridiculous. Thank you. The classes were also amazing. We had groups six hours a day including women’s groups and process groups. I really thought that as much treatment as I have received that there was nothing left to learn. This place disabused me of that notion. Sarah’s groups were always fun and informative, plus she’s the best Clinician I’ve ever had. Thank you! Marcus, the family counselor, was like an injection of hope. He also does amazing family sessions. The man is a miracle worker. All of the case managers and clinicians are amazing. My case manager, Kelley, along with Sarah, helped me to set up aftercare that included IOP, a recovery coach, primary care appointments, MAT and psychiatry appointments, they helped my come up with a relapse prevention plan, deleted and block all dangerous contacts on my phone, disable my Facebook account, etc etc. I have never felt so prepared to go back to the real world. The executive director, Colleen, knows every patient by name, knows what your going through, and interacts with everyone on a regular basis. The nursing staff is also top notch. Headed by Kayla, they do a tremendous job. My favorite nurse was Scott but every one of them was endlessly available and truly stupendous. My needs were met in a timely and empathetic way. I was made to be comfortable and I’m so grateful. Then the clients, I don’t know what it is but the quality of client was truly wonderful. Everyone looked out for eachother, everyone was determined to grow and learn as much as possible. We had so much fun playing games, doing karaoke, riding horses, playing corn home and ping pong, hanging out at the fire making s’mores. It was truly like adult summer camp that saved my life and gave me the tools I needed to go out into the world and thrive. I cannot say enough about this place and it’s wonderful people it’s wonderful setting. I am forever grateful in a way I cannot express here.

Bayside Marin Treatment Center is an addiction treatment center that offers drug and alcohol misuse recovery services to individuals living in the San Rafael, California, area. They have plenty to offer with a ton of therapy services and multiple levels of care, including detox services, residential treatment, outpatient programs (OP) and aftercare
Bayside Marin is an excellent treatment center. At first, I didn't want to go here, mainly because of negative reviews and hearsay from an acquaintance, and corporate ownership. But I quickly changed my mind. I came here devestated by a very traumatic year of my life, in as much of a mental health crisis as I was in a substance one. Throughout the length of my stay, I was treated with understanding, patience and compassion. The bulk of their program is cookie cutter evidence based, but high quality. The employees at Bayside really care about their work, and their clients, and because of this it didn't have a corporate feel, even though they're owned by Acadia. What made this stay extra special for me was the therapy and one on one conversations I had with staff. I had the honor and privilege of working with the best therapist I've ever seen. When there's a true match with therapy it can be magical, spiritual. I have transformed into a better version of myself because of the one on one work with my therapist, whose intelligence, wit, patience, and compassion helped me to rise above and shine, despite facing some extremely challenging triggers in residential this time. When you can't fully care about yourself, sometimes you can borrow someone else's faith in you until you're able to care about yourself a little more. By the end of my stay, I felt more confident and centered than I had in a long time. I also wanted to say, the tech supervisor helped guide me psychologically and spiritually as I faced various challenges at Bayside, and helped revive my interest in spirituality, meditation and awakening. I had the best spiritual and psychological support I could have asked for, which I thought would be impossible after being at Olympia House in 2022. (Both are good rehabs with their unique strengths and weaknesses. I learned a lot at both, but they're not directly comparable, OH is a little more unique in terms of approach and programming. Bayside was extra meaningful because of the particular therapist I worked with, the behavioral technician supervisor I mentioned and the particular clients I bonded with. They actually listen to client feedback and I watched them make numerous improvements over the three months I was there. With that said, there is room for further improvement. Clients are shuffled over to the main campus from detox with very little explanation of where to go and when, which leaves freshly detoxed clients confused, angry, and feeling disrespected. I've been told they're working on fixing this problem. Scheduling glitches do happen, but that's true of any medium or large rehab. They do their best. And also, sometimes communication can be a little complicated between departments. No place is perfect. Gorgeous campus. Food was great. I was told this was a rehab for rich people who valued aesthetics over content, but that's not what I found here. They have some incredible talent working for them and client socioeconomic backgrounds are mixed. Last. I would encourage people, strongly, to ask to change their therapist if the initial assignment isn't a match. I did, and it made all the difference in my stay.

I recently completed a stay at Free By The Sea in Ocean Park, WA, and I can honestly say it was a truly transformative experience. When I first arrived, I felt powerless and hopelessly caught in my addictions—tobacco, marijuana, caffeine, and even my phone. I was lost, broken, and spent countless hours trapped in my own thoughts, unsure of what to do next. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed not only by the caring staff but also by the residents. The sense of community here is more than I could have ever hoped for. Each day, I had meaningful conversations with others, gaining perspective and insights from stories shared openly and honestly. Judgments are left at the door because everyone here understands what it’s like to be vulnerable. We’re all in this together, regardless of our backgrounds or struggles. One important lesson I learned during my time here is that progress, not perfection, is what truly matters. I’ve come to understand what it means to walk down the road of substance use—how sometimes you can find yourself so far gone that turning back feels impossible. During my time here, I had an epiphany about the dangers of THC and other substances, realizing how they can impact your health and well-being in ways I never fully understood before. This experience has given me a new perspective on the importance of sobriety and self-care. Also, meeting others who shared similar traumas and experiences helped me realize that healing is possible through connection and support. The owners and staff have cultivated an environment where authenticity and connection thrive—an environment that encourages you to be yourself and embrace the healing power of nature and community. Everyone, from the cleaning staff to the medical team, to the front office and administrators, are kind, helpful, and nonjudgmental. My biggest advice to anyone considering this recovery center is to persist. Persist in your recovery, in your sobriety, and in yourself. You truly deserve a fresh start and the chance to breathe again. If you're looking for a safe, supportive place to begin your journey, I wholeheartedly recommend Free By The Sea.

It was a difficult and impulsive decision to throw myself into treatment, I honestly went to the first place that said they had a bed, and I was beyond lucky that that place was White Sands Plant City. The staff is incredible, the course selection was diverse and informative. The culinary team works very hard and the food was excellent, especially considering 3 meals a day for that many people. I was scared going in, I had no idea what to expect. It was much less clinical than I thought and that is a good thing! Still with constant medical care, nurses and doctors if you had questions or concerns. The BHT's, Case Workers, and Discharge, all were so personable with every single patient, and it was easy to feel like a part of the community almost instantly. Mostly I want to shout out KeSaundra, she really helped me process my feelings and always was there to listen. Gonna make you proud girl! This was one of the most moving experiences of my life, and I will always be grateful for White Sands. EDIT 08/12/2025 Also want to shout out Ann Marie, I wish I had more time to get to know you more. You made yoga and meditation comfortable and I am furthering my practice in both now. Thank you!

You are able to see specialists such as psychiatrists and addiction counselors without a referral and you can get some coverage for out of network providers. However if you use a provider not in the network you will pay significantly more when it comes to deductibles and copayments. You may also need preauthorization before you begin treatment.

Health maintenance organizations (HMOs) have lower monthly plan premiums. With an HMO you have to get care within the provider network. You also need to get a referral to see a specialist and you may need preauthorization before you start rehab.

Regence Insurance also offers Medicare plans. If you have Original Medicare you can get a Part D prescription plan or Medicare supplement plan through Regence. You can also choose a Medicare Advantage (or “Medicare Part C”) PPO plan. Medicare Advantage plans provide the same services as Medicare but they usually include extra benefits as well such as prescription drug coverage. However you’ll need to use the provider network for your care or pay more for out of network coverage.

What Inpatient Addiction Treatment Does Regence Insurance Cover?

Regence Insurance covers medically necessary care so you should have a treatment plan from your doctor before you seek care from a facility. Regence Insurance may cover your inpatient care if your provider decides it is medically necessary.

Inpatient addiction treatment can include medical detox which typically takes about a week. During that time, you will go through the detox process under medical supervision while your body gets rid of the drugs and alcohol in your system. This can come with withdrawal symptoms which can be treated in an inpatient setting.

Inpatient or residential care typically lasts at least 30 days but may last up to 90. The length of time varies based on your individual needs. In these settings you have more professional support from people who know how to help you during recovery. You also get peer support from others going through a similar journey. Inpatient treatment for addiction can increase the likelihood of long term recovery and may even provide further support after your initial treatment.

What Outpatient Addiction Treatment Does Regence Insurance Offer?

Outpatient programs–partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and regular outpatient (OP) programs–are programs that may be available as part of Regence Insurance’s substance use and mental health coverage.

Partial hospitalization programs allow you to attend treatment during the day; you do not spend the night at a facility. These day programs typically involve sessions lasting 4 to 8 hours a day three to four days a week. Most run for 30 to 90 days.

Intensive outpatient programs often involve 9 to 20 hours of treatment per week and these hours are spread over 3 to 5 days. Typically 90 days of treatment are recommended.

In general outpatient programs you may have sessions at a clinic or rehab facility once a week. During sessions you’ll receive group counseling and education on addiction and relapse prevention. You may also be able to get individual sessions.

Does Regence Insurance Cover Methadone & Suboxone (MAT)?

Medication assisted treatment (MAT) can help with medical detox and continued treatment of substance use disorder. Methadone and suboxone are both long acting opioids that block many of the effects of short acting opioids like heroin and oxycodone.

Both medications make the detox period more comfortable and reduce withdrawal symptoms. They can also help you manage cravings during treatment so you can lay a solid foundation for recovery.

People who go through MAT may have a higher likelihood of long term recovery. However it’s essential to understand the risks of these medications and you should talk with your doctor to decide if this is the right treatment option for you.

Does Regence Insurance Cover Other Mental Healthcare?

Due to the ACA most Regence Insurance plans cover mental healthcare. However there are exceptions, so you should check your coverage before contacting treatment centers.

Often substance use disorders co occur with other mental health disorders. You may be able to use your coverage to get integrated care that addresses both of these conditions. By treating co occurring disorders along with your substance use you can give yourself a higher chance of recovery.

Can I Travel Out of State for Treatment with Regence Insurance?

Your Regence Insurance plan will determine your coverage when seeing an out of state provider. The company offers both PPO and HMO plans and many include the BlueCard program. The BlueCard program may allow you to get coverage if you need out of state care but the amount of coverage will vary.

HMO plans do not cover out of network care so it’s very unlikely that you can use them outside your state.

With a PPO plan you have more options. You generally have coverage for out of network providers but you will pay far more out of pocket than you would with an in network provider. While you have more options with a PPO plan, staying in network maximizes your insurance coverage.

How to Verify Coverage with Regence Insurance

You can verify your Regence Insurance coverage by contacting customer service at 1 (888) 675-6570. You can also log into your online insurance account or ask the treatment center you want to use if they accept your plan.

Regence Insurance has a wide variety of plans so you must provide the exact plan name when asking about your coverage. That way you ensure you get accurate information and can proceed with your treatment as soon as possible.
