When I found next step recovery I was at my lowest, I had found my bottom. I had my mind made up that suicide was my only way out. Then I found next step, and my second chance at a better, clean and sober life. I've been in and out of rehabs and detoxes my whole life. But this facility was different. I was welcomed like I was family and I had come home. With the love and compassion, not judged, but given a real chance at a better life. I'm currently living in the sober living house, and unlike a lot of places. The houses are very nice, clean, and up to date homes fully furnished. The staff is excellent, and always available to help with anything I need. Today I feel like a better man, a better husband, a better father, and I owe it all to next step recovery.

It has taken me a while to write this and I have revised it because with reflection and removing emotion, you can see more clearly.... Review-3.5 to 4 stars If you expect this place to magically keep you clean post-treatment, that won't happen. Addiction is ultimately on you—we all start based on a myriad of "justifications"—but this facility puts you on the path and gives you the tools you need to pause bad habits and start creating new postove healthy ones. Using those tools, you can be successful. ​You will be sharing a house with people from all walks of life. Some have done jail time, some are dealing with issues outside of just alcohol, and some are people you might eventually call friends. ​I want to give a massive shout-out to a few exceptional staff members who made this a a positive experience. Reece is an absolute blessing. She doesn't just check boxes- there are a couple there that do, for the therapy sessions wish i had more sessions with her; she genuinely takes the time to get to know you. Andre, the weekly house manager, is truly tough and dedicated—he is strict, but extremely fair and highly supportive of the rehabilitation process. Mike, the previous weekend house manager, was also great—nice, but fair. Thank you Andre, Mike, and Reece. You deserve the positive shout-out. ​On the flip side, the nursing staff was hit or miss. While one nurse was very helpful, another literally put up "no engagement" signs. When I asked for Tylenol for a severe migraine, she got mad and gave me a distinct "don't bother me" attitude. ​The main reason I almost dropped this to a 3-star review, however, is regarding the new house manager, John. During his first two weeks as the weekend house manager, John acted like an entitled tyrant and proved to be a terrible cultural fit for the healing program SERC is known for. He gossiped, lacked accountability, and was highly condescending. He, unprofessionally, disrupted group therapy during his first weekend just to blame and threaten everyone over issues completely out of their control. I only hope he has matured more in his role since my time there. ​Another concern to note, especially for non-smokers or vapers: the use of vaping in class is not discouraged. In fact, staff openly vape during sessions. I personally found this odd—replacing one addiction with another—but that's my view and I am sharing it so people know what to expect. ​Overall, my experience was fine except for the hit-or-miss nursing, the vaping, and the new house manager. If you get Reece, you are in great hands, and the program will give you the foundation you need.

1 April 2027: Arrived in the morning to make a donation at the Lab prior to my annual checkup. My blood was drawn by Lisa, a 19 year veteran, she efficient, skilled, and says the right thing at the right time. Thank You for hiring and keeping the Best. Was onsite for a PT appt with Pete West. When I called here, I had very little hope that I would be able to get help. One, I dont have insurance. And, two, self pay rates are insane and too much for me to afford. So I was pretty hopeless but called anyway. Im really glad I did. Everyone that has reached out has become an advocate in my name, each one truly dedicated to finding a way around the barriers so that I could get help. None of them have accepted no for an answer and has been diligent in their efforts. On top of that, they keep in touch with me and im not even a patient yet Hands down it has been an experience that has renewed my faith in people. Laura and Jason both made me feel like they cared about what was happening to me and wanted to get me help. I felt cared for and not judged. It meant a lot at a time when it was make it or break it for me.

I have been to both the detox and rehab side of ADACT. I had a good experience. I felt welcomed and the staff is great especially Kelly, she goes above and beyond for the patients. The doctors and therapist helped me stabilize my meds.The classes were great too i learned different ways to cope and retrain my brain to start good habits to replace the bad. As an addict I felt like I was somewhere I could relate to my issues that not everyone can understand. Coming out of a toxic marriage that led to my addiction and mental health it was good to be somewhere different and around new people to get away from my usual triggers and start to take the first step to recovery and living a healthy life. When I finished they guided me in the right direction to continue staying on track for my recovery.

After attending five different rehabs, I arrived here in 2020 feeling lost and uncertain if lasting change was possible. But this place—this team—changed everything for me. From the moment I walked through the doors, the front office staff greeted me with kindness and dignity. The nurses were compassionate and attentive, the recovery coaches and counselors truly listened, and the education team made learning feel meaningful again. My therapist was nothing short of life-changing—she helped me dig deeper and start healing in ways I never thought possible. Even the cafeteria staff made an impact. They didn’t just serve meals—they served encouragement with every plate, and their warmth stayed with me daily. Because of Julian F. Keith, I began to believe in myself again. Pasadena Villa has been a huge help in my healing journey and I truly feel that my life is forever changed. I feel so much more secure within myself, so much more confident in my ability to manage difficult emotions, and I feel at peace knowing I am capable of carrying myself into this next chapter with grace, courage, and vulnerability. Carly was truly a life changing presence for me and therapist. Justin has been an incredible support and accountability partner throughout this process. My experience at PV has been life changing. Even at only one week here I learned so many skills on how to regulate my emotions. I was skeptical of the group setting but it actually helps you speak your mind and talk about hard topics that you normally wouldn’t to friends or family. Over my 5 weeks I’ve been treated with nothing but respect and empathy from every employee, my group and especially my therapist Alex who makes me feel seen and heard. Caring Services Inc is a heaven for anyone in need, period. No favorites, no labels, just 360 degrees of help for the addict who shows up. I was lucky enough to enter the Vet Safety Net program roughly 10 years ago, and I still thank God for it every single day. Becky, Jason, Sarah, and Brian are nothing short of angels. I loved my stay here! I basically came in kicking and screaming. But I’m forever thankful for basically being forced to make this decision for my life. This place saved my life. From my over the phone intake to the moment I discharged every staff member made me feel supported and they were excited for me to take the step Forward. Let’s start with the most important piece (at least for me). THEY ALLOW YOU TO BRING YOUR PETS. There were 3 puppies there basically the whole time I was there. It was so amazing. I also heard they had a bunny there at one point. So they love Furr babies and know how important they are for us. Paula picked me up from the detox. She’s the alumni coordinator. But really she’s a fairy God Mother. She does so much for everyone there. She answered my millions of questions everyday. She was always doing something and had the answer to basically everything. Kambree, the head nurse is the bomb. She’s so funny and caring. Very helpful in every way possible. Dr. Reed was great at adjusting my medications and going over the information about them all. He’s also quite funny! Brittney is the Boss and you would never know it because she’s so humble. She would get us ice cream like every other Friday! And was easy to talk too. All the groups were amazing. I learned so much about my recovery. All the therapist were GREAT! I had Tessa and she met with me every week,some times twice a week, and was very helpful. We talked a lot about boundaries and life balance. I loved her! Mario and Joe were awesome too and so fun and funny. You should check this place out just to hear Joe read a story. The Techs were so supportive and loving. Troy, the head tech, kept it 100% real and didn’t bull shit or sugar coat shit. As addicts we need that. Tray, also a tech, the maintenance man, driver for pick ups and discharges, plus an awesome man to talk too. He did so much for us while I was there. Tanner is also one of the best techs I have ever come across. And I’ve been to quite a few rehabs. He’s so caring, so understanding, amazing to talk too, very funny, Hung out with the clients but never made anyone feel like he was above them, which gained him a lot of respect. If anyone ever needed anything he always got it taken care of in a timely manner and didn’t make you feel like a burden, or forget about what you asked. Amber and Shannon made the weekends fun for all of us. We had a water balloon fight, went hiking, played volleyball. They were also very easy to talk to and trustworthy. Caitlyn and Shandra were there my first day and really made me feel welcomed. Other staff that I want to give a shout out just for being awesome: Melissa (financial lady), Maren (discharge lady), Mandy another therapist but also another title I forget. Over all living: you get a list for groceries you get to check off what you need, live in really nice apartments 3br 2 full baths. 2 people to a room. You get your phone for an hour a day 1pm-2pm while on lunch break. That hour really saved me. Allowed me just enough contact to the outside world and allowed me to check in on my family daily. (Except weekends). Over all this place was THE SHITT!! One of the best rehabs I’ve ever been to. All the staff were amazing.clients were awesome too. I will always be so thankful for this place. If you need help and you’re near Asheville, or even if you’re not, this is the rehab to choose. I love you my CV Family!!!

I can't thank Peggy Lombardo (Alumni Coordinator) enough for saving a family member's life. She befriended "Will" long before he was willing to seek help. He was never alone in life because she checked on him regularly and gently coaxed him into getting the help that he desperately needed. Approximately 7 months after reaching out, Will made the decision to better his life by accepting Peggy's offer of help. Once his decision was made, Peggy instantly started moving mountains to get him the help he needed. She was in daily contact with his family offering her advice, supplying helpful contact information, and even talking him through his fears when they became too great and he wanted to run. As a result of Peggy's unrelenting quest to help Will, he has received a Certificate of Completion from the Midwood Addiction Program where he received counseling, housing, a sense of community, independence, and gradually took control of his life again. A little over a month after graduating, Will has found employment and is ready to start this new healthy chapter in his life. When asked if he ever talks to Peggy anymore, the answer is "yes! she's full of valuable resources.". How do you thank someone who has saved the life of someone you thought was lost forever? There is no repayment plan that could ever be enough for this angel on earth. Peggy will always be our angel. She truly has an amazing gift and we are forever in her debt. XO

Great place! Coming into this I was a little skeptical about being treated well. The staff and therapist took their time with me, to tend to my needs as a new patient. I had some bumps along the way until I met Evie Dillard. She was so helpful to me by giving me extra resources to get ready to exit treatment. I’m talking about food, shelter and even information about great jobs. I started working, got a place to rest my and made great friend for life. Thank you so much, Evie.

Lemme tell you about the housing situation 1st. I read the good reviews and the horrible and the bad kinda concerned me. I can tell you the bad was not only exaggerated but most just someone salty and spreading total BS. There are no rodents and I've never been to a house that had zero bugs not even a fly before I got here, not even my father's house. Ok so these 2 floor some with a upper smoking/ lounge deck are nice nice! 4 bedroom 3 full double sink bathrooms , two with walk-in shower , I bath / shower and a half bath by living room. It's fully stocked with any pans coffee pot anything you need. The staff are some of the nicest ppl and you absolutely get to know them. You are treated pretty much how you treat them. Just be kind! Midwood center was the one I went to and the staff there are always awesome. If you need something just speak up, I've seen ppl come through and expect everyone to be mind readers. I would list everyone I love at Harmony but I'm horrible with names but there are standouts. Christine, Crystn (sik). Byron,Lisa, Miss Gail ( Amber always pushing DBT therapy 😬) Bobby, the tech who's name escapes me that calls everyone "Big Dog) And Lastly but firstly Miss Peggy who is the sweetest person I've ever met and she saved my life just by getting to know me calling my phone to talk to someone else. She had my back and actually drove to Salvation Army and helped me get insurance, talked me into Salvation Army in first place and bought my broke ass two packs of smokes She is absolutely a gift from God and deserves to be the highest paid at Harmony! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My name is Kelly Bowling, and I have three years clean and sober. My recovery journey started with October Road when I entered their PHP program, which at the time was called the River House. One thing I’ve learned in recovery is that many treatment programs struggle with staffing, and people in early recovery often don’t have positive examples to look up to. That was not my experience here—far from it. I was surrounded by staff who genuinely cared and demonstrated what recovery, professionalism, and service look like every day. The BHTs, clinicians, counselors, and support staff created an environment that was both structured and supportive. Justin, Alex, Chuck, and Gray made a lasting impact on me. They treated us with dignity, held us accountable, and encouraged us to believe that a better life was possible. The community was just as important. The groups were meaningful, the other clients became a source of support, and the overall culture helped me build a strong foundation for recovery. During my time there, I served as the cook for my house and even became the barber for many of the clients. We built healthy relationships, supported one another, and enjoyed simple things like going to the river after clinical days. I continued my journey with October Road through IOP and early recovery services. Even today, I still use October Road for my medical needs. I also return from time to time to speak with clients and share my experience, strength, and hope. Today, I serve in a leadership role in recovery and reentry services with a community-based organization called Operation Gateway. The foundation for the work I do today was built at October Road. The lessons, support, and examples I received there helped shape the person and professional I have become. I have a great deal of love and respect for everyone involved with this organization. They were part of the beginning of a life-changing journey, and I will always be grateful for the role they played in my recovery.

The October Road programs are really great. Like anything there is a feeling of sudden displacement at first. They have all the tools that one would need to start and sustain being sober/recovery. I personally completed inpatient at the RiverHouse. Then I completed intensive outpatient, followed by Early recovery. The staff is very involved with the whole process, start to finish. Oh, I forgot to mention that I currently have therapist via October rd once weekly which has helped me tremendously. My overall experience was very good 👍. I just currently celebrated one year of sobriety and still going strong. Overall if one is willing and able to go through with the program it certainly gives a chance at something better. ❤️❤️❤️

update! STILL clean!!! still love metro-and completely credit them for my sobriety… reading these words i wrote years ago brought genuine tears to my eyes. they saved me This place has saved my life. When I arrived I had nothing and no one. I was doing over a gram of heroin a day, I was homeless. I had done some things and had things done to me that I think back on now and can’t believe I survived it. But metro and my counselors helped me become myself again. I had forgotten how funny I was and how much I loved to read and draw. I forgot how much I loved to travel and eat!! I forgot who I was and metro reminded me that I was a real person who deserved a good life. I d had two counselors both have played such a huge roll in my life. Preston has been at metro for years first as a wonderful security guard (who saved me once when I passed out when pregnant due to dehydration) and to this day we talk nearly every day now that he’s my counselor!! Sometimes we talk about life always about sobriety but also the happiness of how far I’ve come. All the things I didn’t think I deserved, metro helped me erase that thinking and then helped me push for everything I’ve always wanted. I want to say I haven’t touched heroin in over 5 years thanks to the help of metro and my counselors. They encouraged me to get clean and get a job that I’ve now finished school for and have now become a certified eye technician studying to become a COA. I’ve been able to take my daughter on vacations and keep a beautiful roof over our heads. Metro even helped repair my relationship with my family... with my permission even brought my mother in so we could all talk privately and give my mother more understanding of a world she knew nothing about other than drugs taking her daughter away. Metro is my safe place. I’ve shed tears, laughter, sadness and happiness under that roof. I got better in that building and it will always have such a special place in my heart. Thank you metro for teaching me that I deserve to have a happy sober life.

I've been going to this place a little more than a year. I'm finally clean and feeling great after 7 years of using fyntenal. Everyone I have dealt with hear has been awesome! Not one time have I felt judged or rushed in anyway. From check in to check out and everyone in between

The program at Silver Ridge is great and has really helped me with my recovery journey. The food is absolutely fantastic. Chef, Kendall, and Jan are always super friendly. If you have the opportunity to step down into the PHP program after completing the residential program, I highly recommend to do so! Patrice, Daniel, and Rose Mary are wonderful people and helped me so much. I would recommend anyone to go to Silver Ridge!

I have been here for a long time and have 27 take homes. If u actually wanna get clean and not just use it bc u can’t find anything else than the place is good plus since getting a new head nurse “that we needed so bad” n when Anna was the director things have gotten much better. even tho Anna is not there anymore she got it together and it seems like the new director is following her lead, the only bad thing I can say about Baart is if someone skips line or being disrespectful and you say something then I would be punished by holding my take homes over my head while the other person who started the mess has no take home’s receive no kinda punishment.

I graduated this program in 2016. I had my daughter while I was there. I wasnt the easiest client to deal with. I gave them hell. Had a horrible attitude. Was so ungrateful. Looking back im so grateful for this program. They took me in with just the clothes on my back, got me hooked up with medicaid and foodstamps as well as a strong support system within the program. They offer parenting classes, therapy, child therapy, case workers, they house you while you are there and make sure you have somewhere safe to stay when you leave. I was allowed an extension by 2 months just to make sure I had somewhere to go since I was homeless when I came in. The staff are stern in policy but they truly care! They wouldn't be in this if they didnt! That's for sure! My daughter will be 10 in a couple months and I catch myself using the things I learned in parenting classes I took here before she was even born! I stop by there from time to time hoping to see some of the workers that were there when I was, and there are still several there!. Im forever grateful for unc horizons and I would highly suggest this place to any mother who is truly ready to get their life back!

I am greatful for horizons there isnt any womens and childrens plae like this i learnt so much about myself and leaned about my child i grew to love my self and could not have done it with out the help of horizons staff!!!! All the staff are wonderful dr Taylor is what you call a real doctor the first time I met him I was doing my intake and just from hearing talk to Mrs Lynn he put me on a whole new medication and finally I feel I finally received exactly what I've been looking for 30 years, and the doctors put me on every day in the world and nothing worked for my mental health PTSD by ADH. Finally, I am on the correct medication and it works very nicely. Thank you doctor taylor.

Have been going to port for 6 years, I’m so glad they help me when I didn’t want to be help and pushed me to do better, and I have learned a lot about myself and tones of coping skills, and for that I will always be grateful ☺️
