PacificSource Health Insurance For Addiction Treatment
Discover how PacificSource Insurance covers addiction treatment, including inpatient, outpatient, and MAT options. Learn about plan types and coverage verification.
PacificSource Insurance was founded in 1933 by a group of 21 physicians in Eugene, Oregon. The company’s mission is to help community members improve their health and improve the healthcare experience by offering affordable care. They are a not for profit health insurance company now based in Springfield, Oregon.
They offer various plans, including individual and family employer group plans. They have Medicare options and Medicaid along with helping administer self funded plans. They also provide dental and vision along with other ancillary health benefits.
They focus on four western U.S. states with healthcare partnerships that provide members with a wide network of providers in the area. The company is known for its involvement in the community and commitment to improving health outcomes where it operates.
Does PacificSource Cover Addiction Treatment?
Yes, PacificSource health plans typically offer coverage for drug and alcohol addiction treatment as mandated by two Federal laws. The 2008 Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act and the 2010 Affordable Care Act both require most health insurance policies to cover treatment for essential health services, which include substance use and mental health
However, this law does have exceptions, and not all plans are required to have these coverages. Make sure you verify your insurance before getting addiction treatment.

Great experience working through the telehealth program. Both counselors were awesome and I really felt connected to the group and they created a very safe environment.
I’m sharing my experience about someone close to me who completed Tree House Recovery’s five-month program in Costa Mesa through the partial hospitalization track.
From the start, Adam and Matt showed up with care, heart, and a steady light. My experience with the team was a blessing. The way they came together to support my friend—even at the very beginning—held nothing short of compassion and love. It was truly something special.
Tree House is a brotherhood. It goes deep and focuses on giving a real experience - not a curated, perfect, or cookie-cutter one. It gives the people who go through it the strength to stand up and get through real life when they leave. It highlights your strength, gives you the structure to build it into who you are, and keeps reminding you of it. They provide tools, support, and, beyond that, an environment where learning happens, beliefs are tested and strengthened, and new identities are allowed take root.
It's physiology and psychology, forged together.
And if you’re asking the question, “Does it last?”; In my experience, it grows. It takes the reins and leads. Even as someone standing on the sidelines, I haven’t just learned from this journey—I’ve been inspired by the person who walked it. This program isn’t a finish line; it’s a whole new game, a wider foundation—something that keeps inviting you to become more of who you are. And it is literally a life-saver.
I’m grateful for Tree House Recovery—and especially for Adam and Matt—for showing up and lighting the way. If you’re ready to believe that change is worth it, take the first step. They’ll have your back for the rest.

Treehouse Recovery and the staff members are all really great people that care about your sobriety as much as they care about their own and take the role of guiding you into the right direction very seriously. Being apart of this program as changed my life for the better and I found not only a sense of happiness I have never felt before but I also found a sense of purpose and a strong brotherhood within this community of guys I went through this experience with. My outlook on life has completely changed for the better and I open my eyes in the morning thanking God I have another day to be the best person I could be. I am able to face challenges head on and be able to tackle them down without the thought of escaping reality and picking up that bottle. This experience I went through with the people I could now call lifelong friends with has been one of the best chapters of my journey I've been through so far. The good, the bad, the ugly; it was all worth wild. Thank you Justin, Vechi, Matt and everyone involved that saved my life! This book isn’t over yet. Let’s see where this new version of myself takes me.

I highly recommend the TREEHOUSE RECOVERY Program in Costa Mesa. Their comprehensive approach to drug addiction treatment is commendable. The program addresses the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual components of your loved one, thereby focusing on the underlying causes of the addiction, rather than solely on ending the substance use. I believe this approach significantly reduces the risk of relapse. The male-only environment is a key factor in fostering focus and promoting successful outcomes.
My son successfully completed the five-month program and graduated. We are thrilled with the results! His physical and spiritual well-being have been significantly restored. Prior to his enrollment at Treehouse of Costa Mesa, I feared that I would lose him forever. He was at “the bottom” and was ready.
The program Is demanding and emphasizes accountability.
The parents, spouses, or family members have an optional video group meeting with other family members every week that helps immensely.
My son is 9+ months clean, and counting. He has a job and is on his feet again. He says that he’s a better man than he has ever been. I honestly don’t believe a different drug treatment program would have been as successful as the Treehouse Recovery Program for addiction.
Coming to The Center was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. They give you the tools you need to build your own toolbox to go through life. It truly is A Place of Hope

I recently completed a stay at Free By The Sea in Ocean Park, WA, and I can honestly say it was a truly transformative experience. When I first arrived, I felt powerless and hopelessly caught in my addictions—tobacco, marijuana, caffeine, and even my phone. I was lost, broken, and spent countless hours trapped in my own thoughts, unsure of what to do next.
From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed not only by the caring staff but also by the residents. The sense of community here is more than I could have ever hoped for. Each day, I had meaningful conversations with others, gaining perspective and insights from stories shared openly and honestly. Judgments are left at the door because everyone here understands what it’s like to be vulnerable. We’re all in this together, regardless of our backgrounds or struggles.
One important lesson I learned during my time here is that progress, not perfection, is what truly matters. I’ve come to understand what it means to walk down the road of substance use—how sometimes you can find yourself so far gone that turning back feels impossible. During my time here, I had an epiphany about the dangers of THC and other substances, realizing how they can impact your health and well-being in ways I never fully understood before. This experience has given me a new perspective on the importance of sobriety and self-care. Also, meeting others who shared similar traumas and experiences helped me realize that healing is possible through connection and support.
The owners and staff have cultivated an environment where authenticity and connection thrive—an environment that encourages you to be yourself and embrace the healing power of nature and community. Everyone, from the cleaning staff to the medical team, to the front office and administrators, are kind, helpful, and nonjudgmental.
My biggest advice to anyone considering this recovery center is to persist. Persist in your recovery, in your sobriety, and in yourself. You truly deserve a fresh start and the chance to breathe again. If you're looking for a safe, supportive place to begin your journey, I wholeheartedly recommend Free By The Sea.

The group processing has been life changing for me. I’m getting so much from what I’m learning about the disease of alcoholism and how to how much alcohol has Distorted Reality. I’m learning to face life and how using alcohol to escape problems has only made my life easier.
The Chateau has been instrumental in my growth and continued recovery. The staff and therapists humanized my experience from day one, providing a safe and supportive space where I could begin to rediscover my whole self. Through multiple modalities, I was able to process and begin healing from both deep-rooted and secondary traumas—some of which I had carried for far too long in silence.
What sets Chateau apart is their unwavering support even after treatment ends. Their commitment to alumni care reminds us we’re never walking this road alone. I’ve continued to grow, and while I still face struggles, the ongoing alumni meetings, reunion, and check-ins have helped me feel held and connected. There’s a true family and community feel that stays with you.
I even had the chance to visit the beautiful new facility—and walking through those doors felt like coming home. What other treatment center invites you back with open arms, long after you’ve completed the program?
Because of Chateau, I am more than confident in saying: I will finally be able to live the life I truly deserve.

I truly owe my life to Chateau! I have been to Chateau twice after severely struggling and ended up spending almost three months total there. I was very anxious not being a first responder or veteran and much younger than many of those there. The second I walked through the front door, I felt safe. Clients and staff didn’t not care that I was neither of those things.
Through the help of Chateau, I found the motivation and will to stay alive and sober. I started to discover my authentic self and be happy with who I was. Chateau helped me in so many ways and will never be able to express the amount of gratitude I have for the facility, staff and clients.
They are accommodating to all needs and are truly there to help you become better.
I highly recommend this amazing place to anyone who is struggling!

As someone who has experienced the weight of trauma firsthand, I can say without hesitation that this center is not just a treatment facility — it’s a lifeline. The staff here understand the unique burdens first responders carry, and they show up every single day with heart, integrity, and a deep commitment to healing.
They don’t treat you like a number or a case file. They treat you like a human! The clinicians are trauma-informed and deeply compassionate. The programming is structured, evidence-based, and tailored specifically to the reality of frontline work. And the brotherhood/sisterhood you find here? Unbreakable.
Healing isn’t easy, and not everyone is ready — but that doesn’t make the care here any less real or powerful.
If you’re a firefighter, cop, paramedic, dispatcher, or military vet struggling silently, I urge you: This place gets it. This place can help. Even if you are not a first responder, Chateau can and will help you save your life.
I was in their 2 week Relapse Prevention Program in 2003. I have been clean ever since! Facility was scenic and serene, staff was beyond amazing. Their overall approach offered total holistic focus treating the INDiVIDUAL. Diversity in spiritual accommodations including Native American. When my two week program was complete I wanted to stay longer simply because the entire experience was so profoundly healing....I WANTED more, rather than NEEDED more.

Absolutely Loved my stay at Olalla! Great meals everyday 🙌🏼 coffee too(if ya get up early enough). The staff I had during my experience were some of the best counselors & people you’ll meet! Counselors will definitely call you on your BULLSHIT & keep you accountable(Can’t bullshit a bullshitter, they say). So good luck trying to skate by or just faking it to make it. I got down to some good core roots I never thought of before, got a lot of “Dark Things” out in my time here too. Also not too bad of classes either! With a slightly more stoic approach one could say maybe, lots of good new info! Also, when you get towards the end of your stay, if you’re feeling not quite ready to leave, you can ask for extension(s) too. 🙌🏼
This place is really about their patients, as groups tend to be no bigger than 6-12 people, so, plenty of questions to be asked, searched for, & answered!!! I was in the Falcon Group, our group never got bigger than 6-7 people. And it’s males with males & females do there daily groups with just females, allowing for a little more comfort/support when sharing personal matters. Absolutely love Olalla & would recommend this inpatient facility to ANYONE struggling with addiction!!

Frequently Asked Questions
What Are PacificSource Plans?
PacificSource offers a variety of health insurance plans that are adjusted to meet the community’s diverse needs. Their Marketplace plans include healthcare benefits beyond what’s required by the Affordable Care Act.
You can get individual and family plans in the state’s Insurance Marketplace or through your employer. In the Marketplace Pacific Source offers various coverage levels that are categorized as bronze, silver, and gold under the Affordable Care Act. Each level has different premiums, deductibles, and out of pocket costs. For example a Bronze plan has a lower monthly premium and covers about 60% of the cost of care, while a gold plan has a higher premium and covers about 80% of the cost of care.
PacificSource offers several employer group plan options. Small group plans are designed for businesses that have less than 50 employees. They offer a range of coverage options to help meet employer budgets and employee needs. Large group plans are for businesses with more than 50 employees.
These plans can be customized and include wellness programs and health savings accounts. Larger employers can also choose self funded plans that allow them to pay for employee health claims directly while using PacificSource to administer the program and provide support.
Those who qualify for Medicare plans can also find options with PacificSource. If you have Original Medicare you might choose a Part D prescription drug plan or a Supplement Plan. Medicare Supplement Plans cover out of pocket costs that are not covered by Original Medicare, such as coinsurance and deductibles.
The company also has Medicare Advantage plans which replace Original Medicare while offering at least the same coverage. Many Advantage plans have extra benefits as well such as coverage for vision or dental or hearing care. However you may need to use only in network providers and may also need preauthorization for care.
Finally, PacificSource offers Medicaidplans in certain areas of Oregon. The Medicaid Program is called the Oregon Health Plan. PacificSource Community Solutions coordinates Oregon Health Plan benefits in certain counties in the state.
Where Does PacificSource Offer Coverage?
PacificSource established partnerships with a broad network of healthcare providers in four states along the West Coast. These states include Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Washington.
PacificSource is based in Oregon where they offer most of their insurance benefits. They provide individual, family, and employer group plans and Medicare plans in Idaho and Montana. Coverage in Washington is more limited.
What Inpatient Addiction Treatment Does PacificSource Cover?
Most PacificSource plans cover inpatient treatment in a hospital or clinic and residential treatment in a more home like setting. Inpatient facilities must provide 24 hour care and have nursing staff on site at least 8 hours per day. The team will record your medical history and give you a treatment plan and toxicology screen. Keep in mind you need to let PacificSource know about your admission to inpatient care within two days.
If your doctor determines you need medical detox you will get medical supervision during the detox process. This may include medication assisted treatment (MAT) to help you manage withdrawal symptoms and stay safe and as comfortable as possible.
After detox residential treatment generally includes evidence based care where you live at the facility for 30 to 90 days. You’ll also have activities and access to holistic treatment like art or music therapy. You may also have outings or recreational activities that help you stay healthy and teaches you to embrace life in a new way.
Not all PacificSource plans will have the same coverage so be sure to verify your insurance plan before you commit to treatment.
What Outpatient Rehab Does PacificSource Cover?
Most PacificSource plans cover outpatient care in compliance with the Affordable Care Act. There are some exceptions to the ACA so be sure you talk to the insurance company before you begin treatment.
There are many types of outpatient care. Partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) provide 20 or more hours of treatment a week scheduled over 4 to 7 days. PHPs generally last up to 30 days.
Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) provide 9-20 hours of treatment a week and last 4 to 8 weeks. Regular outpatient programs (OPs) meet once or twice a week for 1.5 to 4 hours with program length varying by facility.
As with residential treatment, outpatient care must be provided by certified or licensed professionals. A psychiatric and medication evaluation and a psychosocial assessment must be conducted during admission. A treatment plan must be completed within the first week, using American Association of Addiction Medicine guidelines.
Many outpatient treatment programs also offer aftercare services when you finish them. Services such as additional counseling sessions and 12 step peer group recovery meetings are common. There may also be alumni meetings offering socialization opportunities.
Does PacificSource Cover Methadone & Suboxone (MAT)?
PacificSource plans may cover MAT when it is delivered in a qualified practice setting certified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
For many PacificSource plans no prior authorization is required to access MAT treatment for substance use disorders, including opioid addiction. Treatment can take place in an inpatient setting or in an outpatient facility.
MAT medications being administered must be approved by the FDA. Methadone and Suboxone are both approved for use in MAT treatment. A patient can obtain MAT treatment from one provider and residential or outpatient treatment from another provider so that both treatments are able to be delivered concurrently.
Does PacificSource Cover Other Mental Healthcare?
Most PacificSource plans offer mental healthcare in accordance with the ACA. But remember there are exceptions to the law and every plan is different. So you should always verify your coverage with the insurance company before starting treatment.
Mental health treatment options available include crisis care and counseling and psychotherapy. Both in person and virtual sessions are often available and you may also get medication management. Virtual sessions are conducted over the internet or by phone.
Dual diagnosis or co occurring disorders are where a mental health disorder and addiction are both present at the same time and they are are common. In such cases it is important that both conditions are treated simultaneously using a coordinated care plan. If you have a dual diagnosis, make sure that you inform both your healthcare provider and your insurance company. They can then provide you with integrated services that will assure your long term success.
PacificSource requires that dual diagnosis programs must offer mental health interventions provided by licensed mental health professionals who have appropriate state licenses to provide both mental health and substance use disorder treatment.
How to Verify Coverage With PacificSource
There are several ways to verify your insurance coverage. The first is to read through the documentation that came with your insurance policy. This typically includes lists of healthcare benefits that are covered and that are not covered.
Pacific Source also has a member services number where you can call and ask questions about your policy and you can also log in to your PacificSource account on their website to find coverage details and in network providers.
Another way to determine your insurance coverage is to talk to the addiction treatment center that you’re interested in. They may be able to verify your insurance coverage and determine the documentation that may be needed for prior authorization. They can also answer your questions about rehab and start your admission process.
