About The Center – A Place of HOPE

The Center – A Place of HOPE is a private luxury mental health treatment center located in Edmonds, Washington, in a secluded neighborhood. There are several treatment programs that include mental health and substance use disorder treatment.

The center takes private pay of which the cost varies depending on the level of care and amenities you choose. The facility also accepts insurance from most providers. They don’t accept state funded insurance programs or HMOs. They do offer financing options through CareCredit.

There’s an emphasis on privacy and security for people who have a high profile in their community. If you’re a celebrity, performer, church leader, athlete or other high profile person, they’ll work to ensure your anonymity.

When you commit to the program, you’ll have a minimum stay of five days. Most people stay two weeks or longer. You’ll start with an initial exam that includes physical and psychological assessments. They’ll give you a custom treatment plan based on your situation.

The plan addresses any issues you’re having such as alcohol or substance use, depression, anxiety, grief, loss, eating disorders, compulsive behaviors and other stressors such as burnout. Along with psychological and dependency issues, you’ll get a health and physical exam to include a fitness assessment.

Clients stay in private suites with numerous amenities. The programs offer healing opportunities from the trauma of sexual and emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual assault and date rape. From eating disorders to anxiety, you’ll work to get to the root of your unhealthy coping skills to build a better foundation for balanced mental health and physical fitness.

There’s also a track for men with eating disorders. Most eating disorder programs focus on women only, but men also suffer from eating disorders. The programs are for adults of both genders 17 and older.

There are also spiritual renewal programs for those experiencing stress or burnout in their ministry. You’ll have a chance to renew your relationship with God while dealing with chemical dependency or mental health issues. You’ll learn about processing trauma and how to love yourself so you can be there for others.

One former client cited the one on one programs as valuable and influential in his healing. Other clients felt their stay was one of the best experiences they’ve ever had.

Coming to The Center changed the trajectory of my life. I had a lot of trauma that I had never dealt with that was unknowingly causing unhealthy behavioral patterns. These patters had slowly been building over time and were becoming more and more damaging both to myself and to my loved ones.My time here helped me find a path forward and gave me momentum in my journey toward healing. Where I felt completely hopeless before, I now fully believe that my life is worth living and The Center has given me the tools and the knowledge to pursue that life to the fullest.

QUEER PEOPLE/SEVERE MENTAL ILLNESS/EATING DISORDERS/SERVICE DOGS PLZ READone star because they have a couple great therapists that lead amazing groups--mostly only the DBT-- everything else is a SCAM. I went there last year and was kicked out because of my issues regarding my mistreatment there. To begin with, this is more a legal issue-- I have a small psychiatric service dog that has attended a variety of inpatient and outpatient rehabs/hospitals with me. She is very friendly and as you might imagine people, especially people going through a challenging time in their life, are going to be attracted to a cute, calm, friendly dog. at other rehabs ive gone to, she has been openly accepted and would go lap to lap on clients during groups, while still of course monitoring me and my symptoms/triggers. at this scam of a rehab, where there were no clients with allergies and no one who didn't like dogs (even then my dog only gives attention to people when I allow her to), the director got really upset and demanded I sign a contract that prohibits my dog from socializing or being pet by anyone but me, *****ADDITIONALLY*** they had me agree to not tell anyone that they are enforcing this and that this decision was coming from me. As you can imagine, me, being an incredibly socially awkward and introverted person, this was a terrible position to put me in as everyone loved the dog very much at that point and I had to tell them that I decided no one can pet her or interact with her anymore. This eventually resulted in them kicking me out alongside other issues I will mention.SECOND:: EATING DISORDERS:they say that this place treats eating disorders--then I would love to know as to why it is that when you walk in you see hundreds of books by their cult leader, Gregory jantz, many of them being how to lose weight and keep it off, dieting, etc. They also dont really have any ED support here so I would much more so recommend one of the other ED treatment centers in the area that actually are health at every size, anti-diet, all foods fit, etc. and can provide appropriate care for ED'sTHIRD:: SEVERE MENTAL ILLNESSamong many things, I have diagnosed borderline personality disorder, and it is pretty severe. I went to this php after being in residential at an AMAZING REHAB IN TUCSON called COTTONWOOD, the best rehab ive ever been to. I was attempting to admit to the center a place of hope and they at first didn't accept me because they expressed concern in that I have trouble making friends and was alone too much?!?!?!? UMMM HELLO!!!! I was in rehab with severe mental illness, of course I wasn't socially affluent at the time. this shocked the team at cottonwood not only because they know me to be more than that, but they also couldn't believe a treatment center would reject someone for that reason as they are a mental illness treatment center.flash forward to when I was there!!!! the team at cottonwood and I had thoroughly expressed to them the necessity of me being in an apartment (the housing at the center is in an apartment building across the street, there are 1-3 people per apartment) with at least 2 other people to ensure that I will obtain proper socialization and avoid being alone which was still a really raw/unsafe experience for me. instead, they roomed me with only one other person who was also working a full time job. at the end of program each day, I would have severe panic attacks and mention how I don't feel safe going back and being alone sobbing crying begging to switch rooms to be with someone else or more people (I found a someone who would room with me) and they continuously said no. this was TRAUMATIC, not only did it result in me cutting again and them knowing that and continuing to not do anything but it RUINED all the months of residential I had had leading up to that and the months and months of being clean from cutting. They didn't take any special precautions or anything.QUEER PEOPLEmost of the staff here is conservative/christian and if you are visibly queer I would not suggest this place.

Hi Edie, While we appreciate the time you spent at The Center, we need to correct the statements you have made. 1. When clients come to our staff with concerns and uncomfortableness about service animals, we are required to address the situation. What you perceive as friendly and acceptable behavior from a service animal is not necessarily how some others experience an animal interacting with them during treatment. While our team loves pets and service animals, concerns and anxiousness that an animal can cause for others in a confined space has to be addressed by our team. 2. The Center employs multiple CEDS (Certified Eating Disorder Specialists) to work with those experiencing an eating disorder. The Center has treated thousands of individuals with an eating disorder utilizing a whole person approach, and is regarded as one of the nation's leading eating disorder treatment centers. Regarding books that are available to clients, there is not one book that encourages dieting to lose weight. For those that may have an unhealthy weight whether needing to lose or gain weight The Center provides healthy suggestions to achieve a healthy weight range for every body type. Some books discuss the importance of proper nutrition, exercise, and sleep to help maintain or work on a healthier body. But nowhere is there an encouragement to diet for vanity, and nowhere is there a mention of what an ideal body type or image should be. In fact, one of the best national selling books of eating disorders, Hope, Help and Healing for Eating Disorders, was written by The Center's founder Dr. Gregory Jantz. 3. The Center is one of the leading mental health treatment centers in the world, including treatment for severe mental health as you describe it. Your comments provide one interpretation of your lodging experience, which does not provide an accurate summary of what occurred during your stay. While we make every effort to accommodate clients to provide the ideal environment for healing and recovery, we must take into account each client and their respective needs. We must always be mindful of disruptive behavior in shared housing units. Within each housing environment, there is a common area where clients can visit and socialize. The Annex has an outdoor lounge area to socialize, and the Red Twig and other local establishments are very close where there is an opportunity to be around others in a safe and controlled environment. 4. The Center is proud of our charter to serve all who are in need, regardless of race, religion, gender, identity, or age. We encourage our prospective clients to review videos and written testimonies from past clients who come from all walks of life from every religion (or no religion at all), any identity, race, and any other background who have experienced great success at The Center. We certainly wish you continued healing, recovery, and hope on your journey, and remain available to provide assistance or resources to be helpful. Please call us if you would like to discuss your treatment further, and to receive recommended resources that may be near you.

Accepted Insurance

The Center – A Place of HOPE works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Effective drug rehab in Washington integrates care for the whole person, offering comprehensive solutions to addiction. Treatment methods address mental, physical, and relational aspects of substance abuse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I gave The Center 5 stars! It's an excellent resource for managing PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Their counseling and skill-building approach helps you address emotions and trauma healthily while improving communication. You won’t leave fully healed, but you’ll gain a strong foundation of tools to enhance your well-being and continue growing.

If religion makes you uncomfortable, please save yourself the trouble. Every room is filled to the brim with bibles and prayer books. And the walls have bible quotes of them. Leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Even in the bathroom there’s a religious advertisement. No one smiles and I feel extremely uncomfortable. Their method of promoting autonomy and independence is the same as a mother bird pushing you out of the nest. Effective for some, but i’m one of the ones who will die from the fall.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Dingo, we are sorry you felt you had poor experience. We would like to add some clarity to your comment. <br><br>There is an uplifting verse on one wall in the main lobby/entrance area. There are no other verses on walls in the facility, including none in treatment rooms. We do not have advertisements, religious or otherwise, in the bathrooms. We do provide free resources for all clients in the lobby area, including self-help books, coffee, tea, and water. These are not prayer books, nor bibles. They are books on overcoming anxiety, depression, abusive relationships, eating disorders, and other challenges. <br><br>The Center is proud to offer a faith-based track for those who request it, as we believe the whole person approach – mind, body, spirit – is the most complete way to recover and heal. That "spirit" portion includes working through personal core values (that you decide, not what we believe), your belief determinations, and your relationship with God, if you would like that as a part of your treatment. <br><br>But it is important to note that this is 100% optional for all clients. Many clients choose not to have a faith component to their treatment. We create a customized program, together, that we believe will meet you where you are, and have the best opportunity to be helpful. Clients can choose to include or exclude the faith component at any time during their treatment. <br><br>We are proud to serve clients of all faiths, and those who choose no faith.

I was at the A Place Of Hope for 2 weeks and feel I should share my experience and why I left early. You should know that the staff are wonderful. I enjoyed all my therapists, teachers, doctors and the front desk employees. They do great work. What I didn’t enjoy was the lack of community there. The only spaces for clients to hang out are the waiting room, silent room, and the smoking area. There is no place to chat, play games, or do activities with other clients. We would have daily 1hr-1 1/2hr breaks in our schedules with nothing to do and nowhere to go unless you wanted to spend money. Their only attempt to create community is a once a week, 2hr time limited meeting at a local coffee shop. While the gesture is appreciated, It simply isn’t enough. If you have a car be prepared to circle around the block several times, move your car every 3 hours, and possibly be ticketed (a few clients got $40 parking tickets). If you don’t, you have to take a bus to the nearest grocery store and carry your groceries home. Very inconvenient. My housing was a 20 min walk from the gym. That wouldn’t be a huge problem except it was a steep uphill the entire way back. Not achievable for someone just starting their workout journey. Another thing that bothered me is that the men have a group therapy class while the women don’t. It’s simply not offered to us. I asked my therapist about this and she said it was a great idea, she didn’t know why nobody had brought it up before. It’s discouraging to me that a mental health facility that has been doing this for many years offers an incredibly valuable type of therapy to only one gender. I have my own reasons for not enjoying the classes but others seemed to get a lot out of them so I won’t discourage the classes themselves. What I didn’t understand is why they were so shocked the day I left when I had been telling my therapists for days how I felt. Nobody told administrators my plan to leave and they felt blind-sighted by something I had discussed many times with multiple members of staff. I asked to leave during business hours and they said that nobody was capable of discharging me that day. I don’t understand why the staff aren’t taught how to properly discharge a patient. My record states that I left against medical advise even though I went through all the proper steps and my therapists agreed I should try a different program. The worst part is that I have to pay a $1600 fee for choosing to leave early. I felt I was held financially hostage at a facility that was not giving me the care I needed. My options were to pay the $1600 or qualify to be sent directly to a psychiatric hospital (I think you all know what that means). I’m lucky that my family agreed to help me out but this policy is damaging and exploits people who are seeking mental health help. As with anything, take my review with a grain of salt. Just because I had a bad experience doesn’t mean you will. Many people decided to extend their time there because they liked it so much. I just wanted you to be aware of a few things I experienced.

Hi Ariana,<br><br>Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are sorry you did not have the experience you were hoping for. <br><br>To add context, The Center has an outside lounge area at our Annex, immediately adjacent to the treatment facility. The Annex is filled with beautiful flowers, plants, a fountain, and game area. Each residential area has a common space for socializing and meals. And the town of Edmonds is idyllic in the many outside cafes, restaurants, common areas and parks. They are all about 1-5 minutes from housing and the main treatment building. <br><br>We are delighted to offer a weekly dedicated time for clients to meet at the Red Twig, easy walking distance for all housing and treatment buildings. This is a time to relax and socialize. The Red Twig is also available throughout the week for the same, but the dedicated time each week is reserved for clients. <br><br>You noted that The Center provides a world-class fitness facility for all guests. That facility is free to all clients, and provides another healthy venue to meet and relax. <br><br>Regarding leaving early, anyone can leave their treatment whenever they would like. And we do not make a decision to send anyone to a psychiatric hospital; that is your and your family's decision. <br><br>We are available to provide resources or support for treatment in your local area.

I am so grateful for my 6 weeks at The Center. It was both shocking and relieving to see the wide range of different kinds of people that come into there, as well as the wide range of issues that bring them in. The days are full and it can feel like a lot, but it truly is what you make of it. Apply yourself and you will get so much great information, as well as inspiration from other clients and genuine care from your individual team. It is incredibly evident how much these people love their jobs. It wasn’t my idea to go there, but I’m so glad that I did choose to make the leap. I had basically come to accept that I was just “stuck” due to depression, anxiety, shame, fear, etc, but I was able to build the foundation for reconnecting to my true self. Looking forward to life again. Certainly still work to do, but it was definitely the jump-start I needed. Loved my whole team, and all the therapists who led groups, but special shoutout to my psych, Austin, for being so diligent with my medication changes, and to my lead therapist, Virgil, for being the absolute man and helping me look at myself and life differently. All the love to The Center and anyone who is considering going there

Ryan, thank you so much for your inspiring and uplifting review. We believe your experience is relatable to so many who feel "stuck" and who feel relegated to a "less than" life. Your story will inspire others to see if treatment may be a solution for them. Thank you for your kind words for The Center team. We are grateful for your experience, and wish you continued growth and happiness on your journey. Thank you again.

I enjoyed my entire 6 week experience at the Center! My team was amazing, and every person at the Center was incredible. I came for OCD and depression, but the Center specializes in SO much more — from addiction to eating disorders, suicidal ideation and self harm to anxiety and panic disorders, the Center’s team truly addresses it all! The DBT classes and individual sessions were particularly valuable to my healing process. Special shoutout to France, Mike W, Crow Mike, Virgil, Ricardo, Susanna, Karen, and John — you guys rock! Thank you, Center employees!!! I’m leaving here so different — not “fixed” because I never needed fixing, just healing 🫶

Tori, thank you so much for your wonderful and inspirational review. And thank you for also noting the treatment programs available for co-occurring disorders. For many, that is important information as they evaluate which treatment facility may be the ideal fit for them. <br><br>We wish you continued healing, balance, and happiness as you continue on your journey. Thank you again!

I came to the center completely broken my life had changed drastically and I didn’t see any other options except relapse. The center supported me the whole way through, guided me in the right direction, and made me feel heard. I left stronger than what I did coming in. I now have the tools to change my way of life, regulate my emotions, and find my values. I am worthy of life and all I want to do now is live it. Thank you to the place of hope. You have given me the drive to live life to the fullest!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Sarah, thank you so much for the strength and encouragement in your words. "I am worthy of life and all I want to do now is live it" says it all. Thank you also for sending your beautiful image of the Edmonds coastline. Your testimony will undoubtedly help others as they decide whether treatment is a good solution for them. Wishing you an amazing and fullest 2025, and well beyond. Thank you again.
