Newport saved our daughter and set our family on a stable path to recovery.
Last fall we were losing our daughter to mental health challenges, PTSD and increasingly unsafe behaviors. It took 3 tries to get her to commit to Newport, but after the first few weeks of adjustment, she made more therapeutic progress with the team at Newport than in all of the other interventions we've tried to date (years of CBT therapy, DBT skills, and peer groups) .
We are now 3 months out from her discharge and we still have moments of stress but Newport put us back on the same team in terms of addressing challenges together and we have been super impressed with how our 15yo is using skills to navigate the tough moments.
We are extremely grateful to the Newport team for everything they did to get through to our child and earn her trust in their process.

It’s been 3 years since our son was at Newport. And it’s been a long road. However 3 years later he is thriving and growing in ways I could only dream. Everything we have learned from Newport we use today. It’s absolutely everything we needed for our son and as a family. Beyond grateful

Medication management was excellent. Food was good enough since you could select what you want, and they give a lot of it. I met some real good people during my 15 day stay. Staff was a little aloof, but at least they weren’t up my butt all day. Overall it was a positive experience.

I am deeply grateful for the care, structure, and humanity that Fairfax Behavioral Health’s IOP Evening Program provided me during one of the most difficult chapters of my life. The team—particularly Ms. Joy (Nurse Practitioner), Tuba, and Agazit—helped me begin rebuilding when I was gravely paralyzed (mental and emotional) and uncertain if healing was possible.
When I entered the program, I was dealing with acute anxiety, depression, and symptoms of PTSD. I had spent decades high-functioning on the outside, but numb and exhausted on the inside—emotionally blunted by medications that allowed me to “push through” while my mental health steadily declined.
At first, I was intimidated by the other participants—many were still able to work and engage in daily activities - far more together than I was, despite being here for the same reasons. But I soon realized they were simply at a different stage of the same journey. I realized that I should have gotten the help much sooner but, I at least took the first step. One of the most valuable lessons I took away from this experience was that I didn’t need to “perform” wellness—I just needed to show up honestly. That realization alone was transformative.
Ms. Joy, the Nurse Practitioner overseeing everyone’s medication plans, was instrumental in helping me pivot in my prescription. After trying multiple prescriptions over the previous year, she gently reintroduced Wellbutrin—despite my history of negative reactions. With her confidence and insight, I took the leap; I was extremely suicidal but less suicidal- I am grateful.
Tuba and Agazit were unwavering in their patience, guiding a group of vulnerable individuals—each navigating their own pain—with structure, kindness, and grace. They led the group with empathy while holding space for difficult emotions and growth. Their ability to connect while managing complex group dynamics was remarkable.
While I am far from being where I want to be, I can honestly say that this program gave me glimmers of something I hadn’t felt in a long time: stillness. I’m not yet standing on solid ground—but there is now a glimmer of hope. That alone is an instrumental step toward wellness. It will be awhile until I get back on consistent track in regards to executive functions as PTSD symptoms doesn't just go away.
If you’re considering IOP, and especially if you’re feeling skeptical like I was, Fairfax is worth your trust; you won't be fully healed but it is one step in the right direction. This team offers more than clinical treatment—they offer presence, care, and a path forward with reality.
