About Banyan Heartland

Banyan Heartland is a Joint Commission-accredited residential treatment center situated on 33 acres in rural Gilman, Illinois. The facility provides a continuum of care for adults living with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, combining evidence-based clinical programming with a calm, structured environment designed to support lasting recovery. Banyan Heartland is one of the few residential programs offering this depth of clinical care available through addiction treatment in Gilman.

Medically Supervised Detox

Treatment at Banyan Heartland begins with medically monitored detox, available for alcohol, opioids (including heroin and fentanyl), benzodiazepines, cocaine, and methamphetamine. Clinical staff provide 24/7 supervision, vital monitoring, and FDA-approved medications to reduce the discomfort of withdrawal. Once medically stable, patients transition directly into the residential program.

Residential Inpatient Treatment

The inpatient program offers individualized care through a treatment model that integrates multiple therapeutic approaches. Patients participate in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), motivational interviewing, trauma therapy, family therapy, and creative arts therapy. Group and individual sessions run alongside recreational programming including fitness, art activities, and walking trails on the property.

Dual Diagnosis and Mental Health

Banyan Heartland’s dual diagnosis treatment addresses substance use and co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other mental health disorders simultaneously. A residential mental health track provides structured, round-the-clock support for individuals whose primary presenting concern is a psychiatric condition alongside or separate from a substance use disorder.

Aftercare and Continuing Care

Patients leaving residential treatment are connected to a range of continuing care options, including outpatient and intensive outpatient programming at Banyan Chicago, a virtual IOP option, recovery housing, peer support groups, ongoing medication management, and an alumni community. Banyan Heartland accepts most major insurance plans, including military insurance through TRICARE, as well as self-pay arrangements.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Addiction treatment often begins with 24-hour clinical care in Illinois. This supervised setting is the best environment for detox.where medical staff can provide 24/7 supervision and responsive care as your body is cleansed of addictive substances. Doctors may prescribe antagonist and partial agonist drugs to counteract the effects of drugs or alcohol, or they may slowly taper down dosages of substances to end physical dependence on the drug.

During the medically supervised detox process, licensed medical professionals monitor your vitals and administer medications meant to help alleviate the physical symptoms of withdrawal. The process can take between five and seven days, although the actual length depends on your individual needs. In most cases, medically assisted detox is partially, if not fully, covered by insurance.

When participating in an inpatient rehab program, you'll reside at the treatment center for the duration of the program. Your housing and meals are provided, allowing you to focus on your recovery without outside triggers, stressors, and other distractions. You'll receive daily addiction counseling, drawing on various psychotherapeutic approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing. Many inpatient drug rehabs also offer complementary holistic therapies, such as yoga, meditation, or animal therapy, and creative arts therapy.

Participants in 12 step programs focus on emotional, psychological, and spiritual growth as the foundation for long-term sobriety. They engage in regular 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible day and night, year-round, in most communities. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring from a self-selected sponsor. Though the 12 steps of recovery are based on spiritual principles, religious affiliation isn't required. Specialized formats are available, including programs for seniors, teens, and families.

Rehab aftercare programs provide a full continuum of care for clients who are exiting inpatient treatment. Though outpatient care is often considered an element of drug rehab aftercare, services typically continue for the remainder of the clients' life and long after formal treatment is completed. Clients work with their case managers and care team to formulate a customized portfolio of medical, mental health, and social service resources designed to evolve as the client's needs change.

Through advances in communications and medical technology, telehealth in Illinois has become a common option for receiving healthcare treatment. This practice involves the use of communication technologies to offer healthcare remotely rather than in person.

Treatments

Treatment incorporates a combination of trauma-informed and evidence-based therapies — like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing— support groups, and skills training to holistically address addiction and co-occurring disorders at the same time, enhancing your mental, physical, and emotional health.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Men and women in Illinois learn to recognize their strengths and capabilities within a group therapy setting. Group therapy is a perfect environment for you to see successful recovery behaviors and become inspired to manage your addiction.

Trauma therapy provides you with a safe and supportive environment so you can address a traumatic experience. Your therapist helps guide you to understand your emotional, mental, and physical responses while developing healthier coping skills. This helps to improve your emotional resilience and ability to function in the community.

Family therapy helps to rebuild trust and strengthen relationships that have been affected by addiction. Therapists use guided interventions to help families improve their interactions and address underlying issues that impact their relationships. Dialectical behavior therapy in Illinois typically involves keeping a diary to track actions and emotions. Your therapist will use this diary to determine what to focus on during each session. In addition to individual sessions, you'll also attend group meetings where you are trained in coping skills.

Life skills training in Illinois gives you the tools you need to meet daily demands. These fall into three main categories: personal skills, interpersonal skills, and cognitive skills. While in rehab, you'll work on each of these areas as part of your recovery treatment.

Motivational interviewing in Illinois is person centered and collaborative. This method allows the therapist to come alongside the client to address the issue of ambivalence toward change. By listening and reflecting, the therapist helps the client see the need for change and commit to making changes.

During one on one therapy sessions for drug and alcohol addiction, you and your therapist work collaboratively to develop effective relapse prevention plans and improve your self awareness. This helps address your specific needs, including the effectiveness of several evidence based treatment modalities that may work best for you.

Recreational therapy in an addiction treatment program in Idaho helps you rediscover the joy and build healthy habits you can continue as you reenter the community. Activities can include gardening, yoga, and group games that all promote relaxation, improve mood, and encourage interaction and community building. These factors are crucial for sustaining long term recovery.

This place will allow staff to abuse the patients and send your loved ones to the end of the curb without due process or proper investigation. This company allowed a nurse to abuse my husband and did no investigation, they just abandoned my husband and took our money. They did this all at the end of the business day so I could not get through to corporate or HR in time before they forcibly removed my husband after the nurse Mike felt disrespected by my husband not wanting to be under his care, and requested a different less abusive nurse. I hope corporate returns my calls tomorrow. This is unacceptable treatment Ericka believed my husband and still chose not to advocate for him, Wesley told my husband that Mike was not a good nurse and in front of the rest of the team changed up his statement. How are you a metal health facility and you’re making peoples mental health worse by forcing them into crisis without due process or an investigation, just hearsay with zero evidence.
