About Alano Club of Kent County
Alano Club of Kent County, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a membership organization that serves individuals who are navigating recovery from an addiction struggle. Born with the mission to support recovering alcoholics, today the club offers various support groups for those navigating narcotic recovery as well.
The Kent County Alano Club has been in operation for over 70 years and has helped individuals and families find the support they need to live a life of health and wellness despite their prior addiction struggles. Although it’s a membership club you don’t have to be a member to attend the different support groups, fellowship activities and meetings that are put on at the Kent County’s Club Cafe, the space where meetings predominantly happen.
Members have an annual due they pay to help with operations, while non members are usually individuals who are just starting their journey to recovery. The club welcomes both members and non members to join meetings. Going beyond just supporting recovering individuals, they also have meetings and support groups that extend to friends and families of loved ones who are navigating addiction recovery as well.
It’s through these supports that you’ll find a really robust sense of community. In this community you’ll get to experience firsthand what a long term sober lifestyle can feel like. When you experience challenges in your sobriety, there’s a strong community here of peers that you can turn to for support.
One of my favorite parts about the Club Cafe is the strong fellowship you’ll find. You’ll be encouraged to arrive at the Club before meetings or group sessions start. Whether it’s to hang out or to mingle with others, there’s a really welcoming environment, free Wi-Fi and various lounge spaces where you can feel at home. Established as a safe haven and judgment free environment, this is an incredibly supportive place to turn to as you overcome your addiction struggles.

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
