Worst people ever employed at this center. No common sense or compassion in any employee that we saw. Sat for hours on end while mother was talking out of head and dizzy. That was okay though. Still waited for hours more. There will not be another visit here for my mother. We will drive to Greenville to East Carolina.

Worst ER experience I ve ever had. I did not even get to see anyone in my over 5 HOUR wait. The EKG tech even vocalized her being upset that I was supposed to be sent to her within 10 mins of checking in, but did not get sent to her for almost 2 HOURS. The guy who did my IV was a student and completely dug my arm out in 2 spots until someone else had to come in and show him how to do it. I just moved here and now know I will be avoiding this campus at all costs. Zero level of care.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients who are exiting detox or stepping down from intensive inpatient care typically transition directly into outpatient treatment. Outpatient programs are designed to allow clients to either re-enter or remain in their communities while receiving robust, personalized care. Many facilities offer evening, night, or weekend services to accommodate clients' home and work schedules. The most common outpatient treatment modalities include psychotherapy, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Often used as a "step-down" option after you've completed a residential or inpatient program, the partial hospitalization program (PHP) typically involves a minimum of 20 hours of treatment per week for approximately 90 days. Programs offer structured programming that includes relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy services. Insurance coverage for PHP treatment varies among insurance providers.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

If you've been smoking for a while, your body has become physically dependent on the addictive substance nicotine. To avoid unpleasant withdrawal as you quit smoking, you can use nicotine replacement therapy in North Carolina. This gives you controlled amounts of nicotine in the form of lozenges, inhalers, sprays, patches, or gum.

Worst ER experience in my life! Got my IV line in quick and PA ordered an MRI of my back because I haven’t been able To walk in 6 Weeks. Thought things are going quick. HA! Wheeled to Waiting room sitting in a hard plastic wheelchair. after 4 hours I was crying in pain. My friend asked the PA if I could get something for pain and she said no, not in the waiting room but never made an attempt to get me to the back. Told her I was leaving and she said I really shouldn’t but the pain was excruciating, even took Tylenol I had in my purse. I asked the nurse to take my line out because I was leaving. They called my name and I asked if I could go and she said no, line out so to The back of the line. I usually go To Carteret but my PCP, ortho and neuro are connected to CEMC so I went there. Never again!

Nurses were fine. I am currently waiting to have surgery that I was guaranteed would be today. Now I am told I was put on a wait list and my surgery is not guaranteed to happen today! I haven’t eaten in 6 days!

I recently had my gallbladder removed at CarolinaEast. Then entire OR and PACU team was so compassionate and capable. They calmed my fears, answered my questions comprehensively, and took excellent care of care of me before, during, and after surgery. I wouldn’t want to have surgery anywhere else.

If I could leave a lower mark I would! If you have a minor emergency, maybe you will be ok. Otherwise, race your loved one to Greenville. I called an ambulance for my mom. EMS arrived at 8:30 and immediately requested a helicopter to get her to Greenville because they thought she'd had a stroke. I was called back after the ambulance left, told they were going to triage her at Carolina East. That is when the nightmare began. They did a CAT scan which they said showed no stroke. Knowing my mom I knew something was wrong. They said it was just a bad fall. They gave her morphine 2x. I wanted to believe them, but she was getting worse. They asked if it was from drinking because her slurring was getting worse. But they made me question it myself. She had been drinking iced green tea.I was getting agitated because the nurse Ashley was horrible with her. I was told they were sending her home after stitching up her awful head wound. At 2:30 am, I walked in on her raising her voice telling my mother I told you to hold your arm still, as she tried to get blood from her IV. My mother has a central tremor and can't hold her arm still. The IV was half out she was trying to push it back in. She told me to help her hold her the arm still. I told her to stop because this same nurse, glaring at me had already told me they were sending my mom home. I insisted she was getting worse and how was I going to take her home? So Ashley and the PA decided to stand her up and see if she could. It was very obvious at that point something was wrong. I was then told maybe they would hold her and let her see a Therapists the next morning. They regrouped, came back in around 3am and ordered a tele exam with a neurologist. She ordered another cat scan. The PA came in after the CAT scan and while my mother had been lying there she had a stroke. At this point, they said it vould take hours to get her transferred to Greenville. I suggested loading her in my car to get her to a hospital with a stroke team. They said they didn't advise it because she could get worse and I would not be able to help her. In hindsight, I should have. The shift changed after 7am, a doctor came in and a helicopter was ordered to get her to Greenville. She was not taken to Greenville until after 10 am, 13 hours later. Summary. My mother arrived in a hospital with a early stroke, obvious to EMS enough to warrant a transfer by helicopter but a helicopter wasn't available so now she is delivered to a hospital ER with no doctor available. A nurse with an attitude that should find a different career. I heard her repeatedly struggle with IV'S while raising her voices with the poor patients. A PA, as kind as she was, not qualified to diagnosis a stroke. My mom arrived with an early stroke, laid for 13 hours before being transferred to Greenville with a now significant stroke. If you suspect a stroke in a loved one, get them to Greenville. Run as fast as you can away from this ER. The care at this hospital ER changed my mother's life forever.

Was misdiagnosed by Jillian A. Reed with having 2 broken ribs and when it wasn't getting any better I went to ECU in greenville and they found six fractures. ECU doctors said that they would have admitted me the day of injury yet New Bern ED doctor left me writhing in pain in the waiting room for hours and just walked by and said "Oh, by the way, you have two fractured ribs"--and kinda chuckled. And said that she'd get me something for the pain and never did.

I found the Emergency Department staff to be professional and caring. Tests were administered promptly and efficiently. The hospital was squeaky clean. This was my first visit and I was impressed with this facility. I hope I do not have to return but I would be confident to do so.

Everyone was very unprofessional. I was there from 9:30pm on may 6th, 2025 to may 7th and 3:02am because they refused to discharge me after they sat down and ignored everyone. I asked kindly to get my iv taken out due to it making my arm THROB and I cried because when she did it she pushed it so far in and blew my vein so bad. My husband went up to the desk to ask for my paper for his job due to them needing is since he had to take me and I heard her tell my husband “ I’ll get them for you if you guys wanna come back up here to get it.” We go up there and she tells us we have to wait after I continued to ask for the doctor because i’ve already seen my results and everything else so I could just leave. This hospital has been so bad towards me but the closest one so we go to that one. These dr’s, nurses and everyone else truly don’t care about anything or anyone. It’s so sad to see this.

CarolinaEast is one of the best hospitals I’ve ever been in. The people are very wonderful and exhibited true southern hospitality. I had kidney surgery and everyone did a great job, especially nurses Shelby and Georgette and techs Nakia and Crystal. Just great care taken of me all around.
