I have began a new walk and chapter in my life. I did not get arrested back in 2025, I got RESCUED! Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ rescued me. And while I was incarcerated, I knew it was important that when I got released from custody, I stay with like-minded individuals and stay in good fellowship. And the Brighter Start Health Program in New Bern gives me just that.. Brother Isaiah here at the Program has been phenomenal! Same with Donna and Kenya, they are both fantastic as well! I have been soo blessed by God to be apart of this program that helps me with my sobriety and my mental health. The words are incomprehensible! I'm just so grateful and happy to have God put the people here at Brighter Start Health in my life. I'm forever thankful for them! Praise God! Andrea always says she’s “just the drug test lady,” as if what she does isn’t that important—but honestly, she is so much more than that! She does so much behind the scenes that people may not always see or realize, and yet she still makes time for every single one of us. Every time she sees us, she takes a moment to talk, check in, and make sure we’re doing okay. Those little conversations and personal check-ins really mean more than she probably realizes. Andrea is incredibly sweet, caring, compassionate, and genuinely one of those people who makes a difference simply by being herself. She has a way of making people feel seen, heard, and cared about. She may call herself “just the drug test lady,” but she is definitely not “just” anything. She is an important part of the team, and the care and effort she puts into what she does does not go unnoticed. Thank you, Andrea, for always being so kind, for checking on us, and for putting so much heart into what you do. You truly are an absolute sweetheart, and you are appreciated more than you know! ❤️ Jill L. 1 month ago ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I cannot say enough positive things about my experience with Brighter Start Health in New Bern. Today was an incredibly difficult and emotional day for our family, and the level of compassion, empathy, and support we received was truly beyond anything I could have expected. Our provider took the time to listen without judgment, understand the seriousness of the situation, and help us develop a realistic plan for moving forward. What stood out to me most was the genuine care shown throughout the entire process. We never felt rushed or like we were simply another appointment. She treated my loved one as a person who was struggling and deserving of compassion, dignity, and the opportunity to get better. I work in a similar field, so I understand how challenging this type of work can be and how meaningful it is when a provider goes above and beyond. The empathy, patience, professionalism, and kindness shown today were exceptional. She was able to support my loved one while also helping me understand the importance of allowing him to take responsibility for his own recovery. I left today feeling supported, heard, and hopeful during an otherwise extremely difficult situation. Every member working there is always so empathetic and compassionate and gentle with the patients. Jared is so good in psychiatric medication management. Lexi and Heather are so smart and gentle at the front desk. Stephonie the therapist is a very understanding miracle worker for a therapist. Paris and Laura are phenomenal and they are the elite tops in peer support services. Melissa is such a caring care manager and the rest of the entire staff are nothing short of professional. They don't just say that they care, they show it. They will do whatever they can in their powers to help each & everyone who is a patient here. I would recommend Le Chris over any other office in North Carolina. 10/10. Definitely A+ service all the way. They get the job done in such a short time. Don't be afraid to call them and seek out help. They do have your best interest but they also do not force you or peer pressure you into anything. They present options for your treatment and they respect you to let you choose what's best for you based on what help options are available for your treatment plan. Be nice because it isn't their fault you're there, very relaxed system. 👏 Greyson Slayton 1 year ago I will say I had a great experience there wait time was kinda long but after that many of my doctors was nice Mr Leonard and Mr Tony shout out to them were my favorite doctors they were really nice and were very understanding when had issues regarding anger and aggressive behavior thoughts and when I was hearing voices I would gladly go to that hospital anytime this hospital is one of the best hospital I ever went too I take crossroads over unc hospital Brynn Marr Wilmington hospital any day of the week Isis Ariliee 2 years ago After a silly goose mishap, I ended up at Crossroads from Onslow Hospital. The fact that I was in a city that I didn't even know existed until that day, made me scared to heck. I was admitted involuntarily because I didn't want to go inpatient. After 4 attempts and 5 hospitalizations, I was at my breaking point when it came to hospitals so I wasn't quite happy being there at first. Usually when you first get there, they do the basic intake things (skin assessment, weight, height, etc). A little bit after that (depends on when you arrive on the unit), they started doing the, or what I assume was, the therapy assessment. Deep questions about past traumas and current struggles. They ask for any previous diagnoses and current medications you take. After that, you're basically "release" onto the full unit known as Crossroads. The rooms you stay in are mostly one bed (a few have two but I've never seen anyone get a roommate during my stay here) and have their own sink and toilet. I made a few good friends during my stay here and found the atmosphere to be much more comforting than my last few hospital stays. The staff is just as impressive as the atmosphere. The technicians are attentive and help as much as they can. The only one I can slightly remember is a nice technician named Madison. She helped me get ready for my first shower there (a huge experience for anyone taking their first shower at any hospital) and helped me do laundry. Her comforting presence during my stay here really improved my overall mental health. Also, her drawing of Martin Stewart is equivalent to the Mona Lisa. The nurses are just as attentive and helpful as the technicians. Now, I am someone who sometimes doesn't like taking their medication. I've tried around 10 medications for my illness and none seemed to have work. At this point, I was losing any hope of ever finding a medication that worked. I was compliant with taking my medication though. The nurses make sure you take your medication at (or around) the time you were prescribed to take them. They usually find you on the unit to give you your medication. Any and all question pertaining to medication or nicotine related products, you would ask your scheduled nurse. They are day nurses and night nurses and shift changes happen at 7pm. Your nurse may change throughout your stay, but they mostly try to keep the same nurse you've had for a few days in a row. The nurses that stood out to me during my stay here are Sarah, Rebecca, Amber, Robin, and Kimberly (these were mostly my nurses. I'm sure the other nurses are just as impeccable). Sarah was my nurse for a good portion of the beginning of my stay. She has a very comforting and a very mom like presence. I had no difficulty asking her for things. Rebecca was my nurse for a little bit. She has a very strong presence (Don't call her Becky) but is very kind. Amber is a real g. She was mainly my nurse during the later portion of my stay all the way up until I got discharged so I spent the most time with her. All I can remember is telling her my pupils looked huge as hell (probably I thought I was in psychosis or something smh). My next interaction with her, I thought she was the technician, Madison. Turns out, she is not the technician. She's the registered nurse. Ever since I mistaken her for the technician (who looks oddly similar to her), a deep hatred for me festered. No, I'm joking. Since then, we've established a very comforting and reassuring patient/nurse friendship. Robin & Kimberly were both my night nurses and they are both amazing human beings who have helped me so much. I have 14 months clean. It saved me from drugs and my mental health. The staff was wonderful. I give back by going up there and speak sometimes. If you need help please go up there. They really care. Mr Williams 4 months ago Just left this a.m, it's actually a state - run faxility but honestly a good one. The food is plentiful and tastes decent, they provide 2 meaks a day plus 3 snacks, the rooms are 2 person rooms but they try to give you a room by yourself if possible, the place is clean and the staff are kind and professional, slept great and most folks are given valium for the first few days which of course makes the detox process as comfortable as possible. I did the detox did not go to unit 5(the rehab unit). Good place I highly recommend 👍 Frankthezenguy 10 months ago The head doctor there pissed me off and I love him for it! I checked myself in not knowing I was committing to a minimum of 72 hours. Once admitted, you are stuck for 72 hours. You have to sign a waiver stating you release them of liability if you leave before they release you. I was furious when I found out and immediately signed the release so the clock would start. The next morning I woke at 6-7 am with the doctor and a few others standing in my room. He said “ You have a chance to beat this if you give me time to wean you off alcohol. If you leave too soon you will probably have severe withdrawals and drink again. Give me more time to care for you properly. You have my word that I will get you discharged as soon as possible.” I agreed. I felt frustrated and stuck, but I stayed. I thank God I did! Today I am 43 days sober. 45 days ago I didn’t know if I could get sober and make it stick. If I had left too soon, who knows what would’ve happened? The staff was amazing. One of the nurses (a blonde lady) was quite rude and seemed to only be there for a check. The rest were amazing. I can imagine dealing with a bunch of us going through a mental and emotional roller coaster has to be frustrating for them, yet they seem to really enjoy their work and seem to care about you. If you need help, these people are great. Their program works if you stay and work with them. Give them the time needed to help you. Also make sure you have support when you leave. I chose AA and it has made all the difference. Treat sobriety like your life depends on it because it does. Get to a meeting daily. Until you have a solid foundation, nothing else matters anyway. I must saying was not happy about going into this. With that being said I have to say the staff was so amazing. They also tried to take the time to hear my concerns. They did stay very busy so they couldn't answer right away but that is to be expected with two to three nurses and upto four tech every shift to deal with 20 patients. They always made sure we knew they cared. They would keep us out of the rooms for majority of the day to attend groups and other activities to help everyone to learn new ways to handle our depression or anger. They alound us to watch movies and go outside to get fresh air. We even go to go into the gym to get exercise. Alo art as well. By pushing me to not just lay which if I had i would of just thought negative things. I learn so many different coping skills. If we felt like our medicine was not working the way it needed to they alway looked into a better medicine that would work. The only bad thing I have to say about this hospital is they need a better lactose intolerant menu but for the most part the food was good. Because this place help me so much I have decided to go back to school and get my ged and become a nurse and hopefully get to work at this place and help others just like me. I do want o make it clear they never made anyone sleep on the floor and the unit was always clean. So I would like to give a shout out to 2 west unit yall are so amazing each of you that worked with me thank you from the bottom of my heart just thank you for actually caring. I know people will look at negative reviews but I truly encourage people to give this place a chance. The staff are kind, empathetic, and truly do their best. Like any treatment facility there were some bumps in the road and small issues. I just had to stay open minded and calm. I got to see a provider every day who actually listened to what medications I wanted to be on, my meds were always accurate and given on time. I had daily phone calls and we went outside often. The meals were healthy (and actually quite good) and the sense of community here is incredible. Appointments moved along once we were called back and the providers listened without rushing the visit. The clinic itself is clean and easy to find on Henderson Drive. For routine outpatient needs this location gets the job done and the people who work there clearly understand the veteran population they serve. The experience was good overall but not perfect. Wait times in the lobby ran longer than expected and check in took extra time because of the usual paperwork and verification steps. Scheduling a follow up required patience and a couple of calls before everything lined up. Parking was available yet the lot filled quickly during peak hours which added stress before the appointment even started. None of that ruined the visit but it kept the day from feeling smooth from start to finish. Clinical staff and nurses were professional and courteous. Questions received clear answers and the plan of care made sense. I never felt dismissed or talked down to which matters a great deal in a VA setting. The facility layout is straightforward and signage helps once you are inside. Support staff at the desk stayed polite even when the waiting room got busy. That attitude goes a long way when the system itself can feel slow. I would return here for outpatient care and I would recommend it to other veterans in the Jacksonville area. The quality of the actual visit is strong enough to earn four stars. The gaps are mostly in wait times parking and the extra steps it takes to lock in appointments. If those pieces improved this clinic would be an easy five. As it stands the care and the people make it a reliable local option even if the process around the visit still has room to get better. Many of the employees are Veterans themselves, or married to one, or have a close relative that is a Veteran. There have now been a total of four times that they because of their attention to the veteran and genuine concern they have saved my life. I think the world of my current Primary Physician and his team. The truth is I've been there when some of those who wrote negative reviews have been there. Put simply, how one treats those that serve often determines the attitude they perceive as coming from the one trying to do their job and help them. A little kindness and courtesy means a lot to the crew who are doing their best. And that's the point... THEY are doing their best... and compared to what we had not so long ago in the old converted gas station on Hargett Street, the old clinic... we all should be thankful.
