About The Ridge Ohio

The Ridge in Milford, Ohio, is a luxury rehabilitation center that provides alcohol and drug addiction recovery services. The facility is on a private estate with 51 acres where residents are housed in two renovated mansions. The residences have a capacity of 27 beds. The organization has received The Joint Commission’s gold seal of approval for their industry leading clinical programming.

With the limited number of clients at The Ridge, there’s a high staff to patient ratio that ensures patients will receive personalized attention and support. The staff makes use of evidence based practices led by a board certified physician who has recovered from addiction.

The facility offers several programs, such as inpatient rehab, outpatient programs and an alumni program. They also have a program specifically designed for professionals such as lawyers and doctors.

Prior to participating in these programs, some clients may need to undergo medication assisted detox. Clinical staff will monitor the patient’s vitals every four hours to ensure safety. The medication used will be based on the substances the client has used and the potential withdrawal symptoms that may come from them.

Once an individual has been stabilized, the facility will proceed with evidence based treatment options. These may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), recreational and therapeutic exercise, and group therapy.

I like that this facility also offers alternative treatments for addiction, such as acupuncture and yoga. Acupuncture can help reduce a client’s cravings and provide them with a sense of calm during the withdrawal process. A certified acupuncturist is on staff to administer group sessions on a weekly basis.

The Ridge accepts most private insurance plans and works with non-insured clients to come up with a self pay option that fits their needs.

The Ridge is an incredible place to go to for treatment. They keep you plenty busy with group therapy sessions as well as 1 on 1 sessions with a councilor, and there are lots of things to do during recreation time. I’m grateful I was able to find a treatment center with staff that truly care about me and work to foster a friendly environment among all patients. If you’re looking for help I can think of no better place to go to than the Ridge for residential treatment.

Accepted Insurance

The Ridge Ohio works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are designed for clients who need frequent, high-level care but do not require, or choose to forgo, inpatient treatment. Most intensive outpatient rehabs offer a minimum of nine hours of treatment weekly, though clients may receive up to 20 hours of care as needed. These programs typically combine various treatment modalities, including individual, group, and family counseling, medication assisted treatment (MAT), addiction and recovery education, and evidence-based complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and massage.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs are designed to ensure clients receive continuing care while in the maintenance phase of recovery. Some clients may be in outpatient treatment, which is generally considered to be an element of drug rehab aftercare. The specific services provided in these programs are often determined by the client's case manager and care team in consultation with the client. Common services include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

A sober living home in Ohio is often recommended for those completing a drug rehab program. When you leave the structured setting of rehab, returning home can trigger relapse due to the abrupt change in environment. Men's and women's sober living homes act as transitional spaces to continue developing tools for recovery before fully re-entering society. It gives you time to adjust to the demands of life, in a setting that is free from substances.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Designed for individuals with moderate to severe addictions, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides a more intensive form of outpatient therapy. PHP treatment can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option after being discharged from a hospital or residential program. A partial hospitalization program typically requires a minimum of 20 hours weekly for an average of 90 days. Depending on your care plan, PHPs can include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy services.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

During initial recovery, withdrawal from alcohol, opiates, and benzodiazepines can involve high health risk. Attempting detox outside of 24-hour clinical care in Ohio is not recommended. This can be life-threatening because medical staff are not available to treat severe symptoms of withdrawal that often occur. Such symptoms can include seizures, delirium tremens, and extreme dehydration. In a clinical setting, staff are on-site to immediately care for your physical, emotional, and mental health needs.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Ohio provides comprehensive treatment to address the physical and psychological needs of those struggling with substance use disorders. This may involve inpatient and/or outpatient care.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse. CBT is not a faith-based practice, and instead relies upon the patient’s own cognitive ability to consciously overcome psychological motivations toward drug and alcohol use. The Ridge believes that everyone has the mental strength within themselves to overcome addiction and the compulsions that come with it.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills provide stability. They increase the strengths that you bring to recovery by equipping you with the tools you need to navigate daily life. During rehab, you'll develop these strengths through life skills training that focuses on both cognitive and behavioral abilities.

Nutrition therapy helps with detox and drug rehab treatment in Ohio. This treatment gives you the skills you need to develop healthy eating habits, which help you recover more quickly and maintain long term sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

We are so thankful for The Ridge. It was the first place my husband felt comfortable staying at and we were able to heal as a family attending the education and therapy portions of family programming. Beautiful facility that truly cares!

I’ll start by stating that my stay was during April 2025, for 5 weeks. My goal of this review is to leave an honest review, in an organized format, with the hope that others, like me, have a more accurate understanding of the facility and experience prior to committing. Overall, the facility completely misses the mark when it comes to focusing on patient care. This is a huge disappointment, as the resources are obviously there, but the management and staffing decisions made by the current leadership have turned it into a pure, money-making factory. Under different management, I think the Ridge could be an enormous benefit to the recovery community. I would not recommend this facility to a friend without encouraging them to strongly review other options. Before heading to the Ridge, I would want them to know what they are signing up for. Especially, considering the exorbitant cost. See attached photos for additional review comments, as they exceed the word limits.

I have recommended The Ridge to friends and family because of the positive experience I had there. I had been to another facility before and we were treated horribly. I was so afraid to ever try another treatment center, but The Ridge was highly recommended and I am so glad I decided to go. The staff members are helpful, knowledgeable and treat you with respect. I can't say enough nice things about the place. If you or a loved one in Ohio need help, please call The Ridge.

I went to The Ridge expecting professional, personalized care, but the experience was a huge letdown. I specifically chose this facility because of Dr. Sotto, who was promoted as an addictionologist. I believed I’d be working closely with her as part of my recovery. That never happened. I never had a single individual session with her. Even worse, the programming Dr. Sotto provided was clearly copied and pasted. It felt generic and recycled, with no personalization or effort to meet the individual needs of clients. It was the same material over and over, with no depth or adaptation. The programming felt more like a money grab than anything designed to truly help people in recovery. My assigned counselor, Dillon, was another disappointment. I only saw him twice during my entire stay, and neither session was meaningful or productive. There was no real connection or engagement—just someone showing up out of obligation. One major issue that affected everyone was the constant exhaustion. We were pushed from one group to the next with barely any time to rest. The schedule was nonstop, and it left many of us drained and unable to retain much of the information being thrown at us. It felt more like a factory than a healing environment. However, the psychiatrist was absolutely amazing. He went above and beyond to help me and genuinely cared about my well-being. If anyone at this facility had a true dedication to the clients’ recovery, it was him. Honestly, he should take Dr. Sotto’s job. He was the only one who provided the personalized, thoughtful support I was expecting from a program like this. Counselor Will was also fantastic. He was passionate, well-educated, and genuinely talented at what he does. He made me feel heard and supported in a way no one else did. The nursing staff was very good—always professional, caring, and attentive. The RSS staff also did a great job; they were caring, helpful, and made sure we felt safe and supported throughout. The food was another highlight; the chefs were amazing, and the kitchen staff clearly took pride in their work. The amenities were nice, but that’s about the only positive thing I can say about the physical space. The programming, on the other hand, was poorly designed and clearly driven by a desire to make money rather than actually help people recover. For the cost, I expected far more than generic, one-size-fits-all treatment and a grueling, exhausting schedule that left no room for rest or real progress. For the price of this place, the quality of care should be far better. Instead, I got a burned-out staff (with a few exceptions), generic programming, poor communication, and zero follow-through. I regret going to The Ridge and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for serious, individualized recovery support.

“ I cannot recommend The Ridge enough. The most lasting message that I carry to any addict or alcoholic still suffering is that the opposite of addiction is NOT sobriety, but rather [human] connection, The Ridge promises just that, one must be willing, however, to extend their hand—” The Ridge Ohio ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I consider myself blessed to have found The Ridge Ohio. It was the threat of jail that sped my search for rehab services along. I have been clean [AND sober] for 79 days today, after a rather long “13-year meth binge.” Not only am I no longer what some would’ve considered a “hopeless” case, but I am rather confident that I’ve been given a new lease on life. I traveled from 3 hours away, from Northwest Ohio, because research demonstrated that The Ridge was the most suitable option. The caring staff and beautiful facility exceeded my expectations at EVERY level. Somewhat naively, I guess I was expecting to be hypnotized or something; early on, I realized this wasn’t going to happen and became secretly worried. Nor did I fight the recommendation of a 45-day stay [rather than the Probation-mandated 30 day residential program]. In all, they kept me, willingly, 63 days—ensuring I would have the best probability of success. What was supposed to be a Thanksgiving-sacrifice actually encompassed Christmas and New Years as well. In all earnestness, this was the BEST place for me to be this past holiday cycle. It certainly, doesn’t hurt that I was served an INCREDIBLE meal for ALL three occasions. Because I am single, without dependents, I was unaware, too, of how essential family programming would be in my recovery. The Ridge’s emphasis on addiction as a “family disease” is paramount to their curriculum. Since graduating from the program on January 13th, I transitioned to Sober Living [at a place called Gateway on Vine St, Cincinnati]—even in this selection, The Ridge held my trembling hand to ensure an ideal fit, and they didn’t lead me down the wrong path. As an openly gay male, I wish to express gratitude for the individualized counseling and aforementioned attention to MY needs with regards to programming, selection of 12-step meetings to attend as well as post-care. Currently, I am enrolled in the evening IOP program. Additionally, my counselor, Liz, accomplished the incredible feat of convincing my Probation Officer to transfer my oversight to the local county—without any mention of pending jail-time. I cannot recommend The Ridge enough. The most lasting message that I carry to any addict or alcoholic still suffering is that the opposite of addiction is NOT sobriety, but rather [human] connection, The Ridge promises just that, one must be willing, however, to extend their hand— Kevin B. from Ohio

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Kevin, thank you for this beautiful and powerful message. Your words are a reminder of the strength it takes to choose connection and growth. We’re incredibly grateful for your kind reflection and are wishing you continued courage, clarity, and community on the road ahead.
