About Recovery Centers of America – Bracebridge Hall

They offer some scholarships based on availability and need. If there aren’t any scholarships available and you don’t have insurance then they’ll work with you to come up with an alternative payment option.

The RESCU program (Resilience, Empowerment, Safety, and Care for our Uniformed Heroes) for military and first responders is also available at this location. RESCUE helps with work-related trauma and addresses difficulties such as a drinking culture within the ranks. You’ll be in a separate part of the facility but you can choose to participate with the regular groups, too.

When you’re first admitted, you’ll have an assessment to determine the level of care most appropriate for your substance use. The center has a supervised detox. You’ll receive medications to help you through substance withdrawal, if necessary. You’ll be monitored throughout the process to avoid any uncomfortable or life threatening withdrawal symptoms.

In the inpatient program, you’ll have group and individual therapy sessions. You may have medication assisted treatment (MAT) for your addiction or mental health issues. They’ll encourage you to attend 12 Step meetings and other support groups.

There’s a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and a telehealth option. The PHP is Monday through Friday during the day. Many patients attend the PHP after finishing their inpatient program.

You can attend the IOP during the day or evening a few times per week. If you have a job, this program can help you get the support you need while still maintaining your employment. In all the programs, you’ll have individual and group therapy as well as MAT if appropriate.

Several former clients have good things to say about the center. They specifically mention that the center changed them and saved their lives.

Bracebridge Hall was a positive force in my son’s journey. The staff cared about his struggles and encouraged him to stay focused. They not only addressed his addiction but mental health issues. Their family support has also been above my expectations. Most notably, Dan, who has always been there with support for any of our concerns. Bracebridge Hall is a beautiful, peaceful campus to start the path to recovery.

Accepted Insurance

Recovery Centers of America – Bracebridge Hall works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Residential treatment at Bracebridge Hall provides intensive individualized care each day. When you arrive, they complete a comprehensive evaluation to determine the best level of care and develop a personalized plan for your treatment.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. The 12 Steps to recovery are steeped in Bracebridge Hall’s various workshops and sessions. They offer regular, on-site 12-Step meetings and include the spiritual principals of the program in everything they do.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. Theirr Alumni Program provides a variety of beneficial opportunities after you leave recovery at Bracebridge Hall. They want you to remain connected to the network of people who understand your journey and will continue to stay on the right path with you.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Clients who are exiting detox or intensive inpatient treatment often enroll in outpatient rehab programs to ensure a robust continuity of care. Outpatient programs allow clients to remain in or return to their homes and workplaces while continuing to receive treatment, which typically includes addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Clients in opioid and/or alcohol recovery may also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT), including medication induction and maintenance, at an outpatient facility.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Once a person has become addicted to a substance, drug rehab in Maryland is often necessary to overcome that addiction. These programs provide the tools individuals need to manage the physical, mental, and emotional issues involved and begin a successful recovery journey.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

In Maryland, substance abuse treatment programs support individuals struggling with drugs or alcohol, and those who also have mental health conditions. These rehab programs vary, depending on the level of care you need. That might include inpatient rehab, or an outpatient program. Typically, substance abuse treatment includes evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), recovery support meetings, and skills groups to equip you with new coping strategies when you leave rehab.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. At Bracebridge Hall, their Family Program offers the education, skills, and support needed for family members to join the journey of recovery.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nutritional guidance at Bracebridge Hall is meant to: reduce the onset of cravings for drugs or alcohol that can lead to relapse, heal damage to the body that has resulted from substance abuse; reduce stress, nourish the body, and improve mood; promote and maintain a healthy lifestyle; by educating individuals and adding proper nutrition practices into residents’ daily lives, they can make their bodies and minds work together, strengthening their efforts to maintain complete, healthy lifestyles.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

During dialectical behavior therapy sessions, you'll review the challenges you faced the previous week and the feelings you experienced during those times. You and your therapist will engage in problem solving, discussing how you can handle those situations in the future for a better outcome. This involves keeping a diary throughout the week to track your emotions.

This program changed my life and continues to do so.. I recently went through inpatient and now I’m attending their aftercare program. I also stay plugged in by being active in the Alumni and feel like I’m apart of a family now. The staff treats me like a person, not just a patient, and it makes all the difference. They aren’t just doing a job, they become a part of your journey. They've been patient, supportive, and genuinely care about my recovery, my family, my safety and my future . I’m so thankful for everything they did and continue to do in helping me heal and start building a better and sober future.

THANK YOU! I don’t even know where to begin when it comes to expressing my gratitude to RCA Bracebridge for their unwavering support and dedication in helping an addict become clean, healthy, present, and the very best version of themselves. RCA didn’t just save my life — it saved my relationships with my family, my friends, and everyone willing to give recovery a chance. A special thank you to Dan and Vince. You both went above and beyond to make sure I — and so many others — got the help we so desperately needed. From the very first phone call to walking through those doors, you never turned anyone away. You answered questions, calmed fears, and picked up your phones at all hours just to remind us we weren’t alone. That level of care and commitment is rare, and I will never forget it. I also want to recognize Tammy — you are truly a gem! Through our process groups, I’ve learned so much from you. You pushed me to grow, reminded me to take recovery one day at a time, and showed me that healing is possible if we just keep showing up for ourselves. From start to finish, I felt the love, compassion, and passion every single person at RCA has for helping others. Words can’t fully capture the depth of my gratitude for your heroic efforts — not just in saving my life, but in touching the lives of so many. To me, you are all angels. I walked in an addict… and I walked out with a family. #WeDoRecover

I cannot say enough good things about my experience at Recovery Center of America at Bracebridge Hall. From the moment I walked through the doors, I felt welcomed, supported, and truly cared for. The staff here are not just highly trained professionals—they are compassionate, patient, and deeply committed to helping each person succeed in their recovery. The program is comprehensive and personalized. They don’t take a “one size fits all” approach; instead, they worked closely with me to understand my specific struggles and goals. The combination of individual counseling, group therapy, educational workshops, and holistic activities (like mindfulness, fitness, and art therapy) gave me tools I will carry with me for life. The environment is safe, comfortable, and free of judgment—exactly what I needed to open up and do the hard work of healing. The staff also provided support for my family, which was invaluable in helping us rebuild trust and understanding. Thanks to Recovery Center of America at Bracebridge Hall, I not only found sobriety but also rediscovered a sense of purpose, self-worth, and hope for the future. I truly believe they saved my life, and I will always be grateful for the care and guidance I received here. If you or a loved one is struggling, I cannot recommend Recovery Center of America at Bracebridge Hall enough. They don’t just treat addiction—they help you build a new life.

I can’t say enough about the incredible support my brother, and our entire family has received from RCA Bracebridge. From the moment he entered treatment, the staff showed professionalism, compassion and care. They provided the tools and encouragement he needed to begin his recovery journey. The ongoing connection with Dan and the RCA Alumni Association has made this experience more meaningful. Recovery doesn’t end at discharge, and the alumni network has been a lifeline. It provides community, accountability, and hope not just for my brother, but for us as a family learning how to support him in healthy ways. Thanks to RCA Bracebridge, we feel like we’re not walking this road alone.
