I love Amy Howard. I first started seeing her when I was discharged from a psychiatric hospital due to being suicidal. From day one Amy was so patient with me. She always tells me that if I need to see her she will fit me into her schedule. She is aware of my medical conditions, and considers that when she prescribes my medicine. Just left this a.m, it's actually a state - run faxility but honestly a good one. The food is plentiful and tastes decent, they provide 2 meaks a day plus 3 snacks, the rooms are 2 person rooms but they try to give you a room by yourself if possible, the place is clean and the staff are kind and professional, slept great and most folks are given valium for the first few days which of course makes the detox process as comfortable as possible. I did the detox did not go to unit 5(the rehab unit). Good place I highly recommend 👍

The head doctor there pissed me off and I love him for it! I checked myself in not knowing I was committing to a minimum of 72 hours. Once admitted, you are stuck for 72 hours. You have to sign a waiver stating you release them of liability if you leave before they release you. I was furious when I found out and immediately signed the release so the clock would start. The next morning I woke at 6-7 am with the doctor and a few others standing in my room. He said “ You have a chance to beat this if you give me time to wean you off alcohol. If you leave too soon you will probably have severe withdrawals and drink again. Give me more time to care for you properly. You have my word that I will get you discharged as soon as possible.” I agreed. I felt frustrated and stuck, but I stayed. I thank God I did! Today I am 43 days sober. 45 days ago I didn’t know if I could get sober and make it stick. If I had left too soon, who knows what would’ve happened? The staff was amazing. One of the nurses (a blonde lady) was quite rude and seemed to only be there for a check. The rest were amazing. I can imagine dealing with a bunch of us going through a mental and emotional roller coaster has to be frustrating for them, yet they seem to really enjoy their work and seem to care about you. If you need help, these people are great. Their program works if you stay and work with them. Give them the time needed to help you. Also make sure you have support when you leave. I chose AA and it has made all the difference. Treat sobriety like your life depends on it because it does. Get to a meeting daily. Until you have a solid foundation, nothing else matters anyway.

January 13, 2026 annual appointment, Goldsboro CBOC: I’m an infrequent user of this CBOC but my experience is much more positive than what some have written. From the moment Dr. Thomas arrived she has handled my issues expeditiously and correctly the first time. Her nurse returns calls the same day and is results oriented. I was here before CBOC came to town. Trust me, don’t knock a local VA facility that so many dedicated officials worked so hard to bring to us for our benefit. No, like the military, they’re not perfect but from my perspective they are dedicated professionals grinding through each and every day in the most bureaucratic agency of the US government. I am on the 6th floor but I came through the emergency room having symptoms of a stroke and or heart attack. I have never been to a hospital where the people were so nice to me and treated me so nice and went above and beyond to make me comfortable and feel better . I've been here 8 days and I've had the best nurses and assistance transporters everyone has gone above and beyond for me and I know I don't deserve it the only thing that has kept me from having another heart attack is the laughter and fun that they've given me while going through the most traumatic experience of my life. Nutrition one above and beyond . I've been to every department mri heart catheter and many many more. I do have two suggestions even though my experience was amazing and I have no complaints. One the MRI department needs a second MRI and maybe preferably for a bigger people. I'm average size and it was a tight fit. Two. Find a way to honor and support these great friendly staff you have.

Did the 90 days in fall of 2019. The program basically focuses on Addictive and criminal thinking patterns and the ones who give it a chance will get something out of it. Mr. Ray was my counselor and from day one was fair to all and a good , down to earth counselor. The concerns process was a blast and I can talk all day here but words can't explain the experience you just have to go if given a chance. It's not suppose to be fun ( which it isnt) but given the chance it can have a positive effect. PULL UP!!!

I wouldn't be almost 10 years drug free if it weren't for the women that run this facility. They made me feel loved, supported, understood, validated, and most importantly, they made me feel worthy. I cannot say enough good things about my time there. A lot of negativity in the reviews but I sincerely did not share that experience. I was ready for a change....I was 38 years old, pregnant, a very heavy Daily IV drug user of meth and heroin, who was homeless and completely lost to the game. I was, in effect, committing extreme acts of abuse on my unborn child every single time I pushed off another speedball, although i convinced myself it wasnt the case. I didnt realize I was even pregnant until i was almost 5 months and continued in my use for another month and a half before considering treatment. I didnt deserve the love and care that those selfless women afforded me yet they gave it willingly and without judgement. They reached me, in a way that hadnt happened for me before and I will never forget their fortitude. Miss Tammy, Miss Sonya, Miss Jannelle, Miss Portia (she's tough but once you show her you are serious, she will give everything to help you succeed) and the rest of the staff that was there in 2017 is the best part of that program. Keep in mind that this is a state funded facility that is offered to these complaining women in the other reviews their own fully furnished apartment FREE OF CHARGE for up to a year and a half if it is needed. It grants these women the ability to bond with the children they neglected in their drug use and the opportunity to reunify the family once they reach successful completion of the program. They are not locked in their apartments like criminals, they are encouraged to take their children out to play or be outside in designated spaces to be with their kids. No they cannot interact with the other women or their children in the program because they are there to get sober and be mothers to their kids. That should be all they are concerned with...not whether they have cable or freaking Netflix to watch or ruminating on the very strategic and well placed rules of the program. I had zero problem complying with what was asked of me in returtn for the security that was provided me by the program. ZERO. In fact, I thrived in that place. When it was time for me to move on, I literally didnt want to go because i was that content there. The situation is purely what you make of it, If you perceive it as a threat before you even give yourself a chance you are inevitably going to fail. If you are like I was and desperate for a different way the chances of success are almost guaranteed if you surrender yourself to the idea of trying something new. Tough love is just love with its work boots on. i HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAM FOR ANY WOMAN WITH CHILDREN IN SEARCH OF A STEPPING STONE TOWARDS A BETTER LIFE. I have nine gold medallions in my keeping that can contest to that.
