About Avenues Recovery Center: Drug & Alcohol Rehab – Eastern Shore

This treatment center can start off your recovery journey with detox care. After you’ve detoxed you’ll have an immersive treatment program where you’ll get the personalized care and varied treatment you need for a strong and sustainable recovery. That includes individual therapy and group therapy for starters. There are educational workshops that will teach you about addiction and how it affects your mind and body and will teach you strategies for defeating it. There’s counseling for families and couples, and there are medications that can help with cravings and withdrawal too. Plus there are daily 12 Step meetings and plenty of holistic therapies like art therapy, yoga and meditation.

All of this happens within upscale residential facilities. They have a large property that has plenty of amenities like a basketball court and a premium gym. They have lounge and recreational areas, and there are fun activities on weekends, too, plus they provide local transportation when you need it. When you finish your program they partner with sober living homes in the area to give you a smooth transition to the next step in your journey.

Previous clients rave about the facility and the program. Many say that it’s the reason they have survived and overcome their addiction to lead a healthy and fulfilling life. They say it’s because the counselors and staff here are experts in what they do.

An Amazing and Humbling experience 💯!!! Honestly, I didn't view it as such in the beginning but I slowly began to appreciate the opportunity to be here after learning many imperative lessons. No it wasn't all perfect, nothing is...but this place reminded me that's its okay to be Perfectly Imperfect!!!👌 I look forward to continuing my recovery journey using the tools I gained here!! 🔧 🔨 I highly recommend that anyone struggling with addiction walk through these doors!! If you're looking for perfection and a walk in the park, look elsewhere but if you strive to be sober and in recovery, this place is where you should start!!! The counselors, staff and food service 😋....have been great to me!! It's bittersweet that I'm leaving tomorrow morning...more sweet than bitter!! 😆 🤣 Thank you Avenues!!!

Maurell, your words brought big smiles to the whole Avenues Eastern Shore team! We love how you embraced the lessons—even the hard ones—and leaned into the idea of being “perfectly imperfect.” You left here with tools, strength, and a spark that’s all your own, and we can’t wait to see where they take you.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Financing your treatment can make treatment more accessible. You'll work with your care provider to set up payment plans, including interest rates and repayment timelines. Financing options vary widely and not all programs offer them, so be sure to get the full details before enrolling in treatment. If you have insurance or other benefits, financing may help you cover your remaining out of pocket expenses.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients who are leaving inpatient rehab often choose to transition into an intensive outpatient program (IOP) to receive high-level support as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Intensive outpatient rehab also benefits those at risk of relapse. Clients typically participate in nine to 20 hours of treatment weekly, with modalities ranging from psychotherapy to addiction and recovery education. Many programs also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT) and complementary care, such as nutrition counseling, and acupuncture.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically partner with their case manager and care team to identify and access the services that best align with their recovery needs and goals. Rehab aftercare services are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs to promote their long-term sobriety. Care modalities are highly customized and may include a range of medical, mental health, and social service resources, including peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs provide accessible peer coaching for participants at all stages of their recovery journey. Meetings are peer-led, anonymous, free, and available multiple times per day in most communities. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring by a self-selected sponsor. 12 step recovery is based on spiritual principles, which enable participants to understand their disease, accept responsibility for their choices, and relinquish control over that which is unchangeable. Religious affiliation isn't required and specialized formats are available.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Most sober living homes in Maryland are located in peaceful, quiet neighborhoods. These private residences are designed to offer a low-stress but structured environment where residents can focus on their ongoing recovery efforts and receive support to maintain sobriety. Several individuals, all of whom are in recovery, share the halfway house. This type of communal living helps decrease relapse, increase employment rates, and helps individuals hone their recovery skills.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

If you think a loved one needs help with substance abuse, but they are not seeking treatment, it may be time for a drug intervention in Maryland. Intervention services can help you with this effort. During the intervention, loved ones share how their addiction-related behavior has affected them and encourage the individual to get treatment. The intervention specialist helps facilitate the conversation and explain how treatment can help.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term intensive rehab option designed to provide treatment during the day and you're able to return home at night. PHP treatment offers structured programming, including individual and group therapy, typically meeting 3-5 days a week for 6-8 hours per day. PHP duration averages around 90 days, with some programs offering amenities like transportation and meals.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Quitting drugs and alcohol on your own can cause uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects caused by the withdrawal process. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed medical professionals will monitor your health, provide medication for potential withdrawal symptoms, and work to keep you safe and comfortable. Most people transition to an inpatient program or a maintenance program that uses medication assisted treatment (MAT).

outpatient iconOutpatient

Clients who are exiting detox or intensive inpatient treatment often enroll in outpatient rehab programs to ensure a robust continuity of care. Outpatient programs allow clients to remain in or return to their homes and workplaces while continuing to receive treatment, which typically includes addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Clients in opioid and/or alcohol recovery may also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT), including medication induction and maintenance, at an outpatient facility.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD), commonly referred to as alcoholism, can be classified as mild, moderate, or severe. Each category involves unhealthy patterns of alcohol consumption and can cause harmful effects. To treat alcohol addiction at any level, alcohol rehab in Maryland is often necessary. These treatment programs provide psychological, social, and medical supports that help individuals overcome alcohol addiction and maintain long-term recovery.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

In Maryland, substance abuse treatment programs support individuals struggling with drugs or alcohol, and those who also have mental health conditions. These rehab programs vary, depending on the level of care you need. That might include inpatient rehab, or an outpatient program. Typically, substance abuse treatment includes evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), recovery support meetings, and skills groups to equip you with new coping strategies when you leave rehab.

Maryland's addiction experts understand the importance of dual-diagnosis addiction treatment in their inpatient and outpatient recovery programs. Dual-diagnosis means having two mental health disorders at the same time, like addiction and depression. By treating individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions simultaneously, they can enhance recovery outcomes and improve overall health, reducing the risk of relapse. Programs include evidence-based therapies, family counseling, recovery support groups, and skills training. Additional services may include medically assisted detox, 12-Step facilitation, equine therapy, complementary treatments, and alumni programs.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Four key principles guide motivational interviewing. These are empathy, self efficacy, rolling with resistance, and developing discrepancy. These techniques allow the client to examine their motivations for change, identify discrepancies in their current situation and future goals, and feel empowered to make changes to reach their goals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

The entire environment has changed since I left there, they've gotten rid of the best things avenues had there. So I wouldn't recommend it personally

Response from the owner
Kody, 51 days flew by with you here at Avenues Eastern Shore! We’re so glad our staff and community could make this chapter feel positive, supportive, and full of connection. You’re walking out with more than recovery tools—you’ve got a whole cheering section for life.

This place is trash, go anywhere else but here. The medical staff is trash and ignore people. I barely saw a counselor, they only care about money and what kind of insurance you have.

It saddens me how Avenues has drastically changed the new administration doesn't put the client first they are only a dollar if they really cared they wouldn't have taken the best parts of the program away. Holly and Kristen and the Zen Den saved my life returning for the speaker jam gave me something to look forward to and a way to give back their impact on the program is unmatched I feel bad that clients in the future will never have that same experience

Response from the owner
Hi Sherrie! We're so happy that Eastern Shore Rehab was able to do that for you. Enjoying your recovery is absolutely possible at Avenues.

I've been there twice and don't get me wrong there are wonderful who teach the classes, well the first time this time only a couple. I felt sick one day and the medical department will not help me because I didn't have a fever and for a week straight I begged them to help me and I was ignored. I became septic and was rushed to the hospital where I found out I caught a bacteria there , hospitalized 2 months and 27 surgeries. The bht are always on there phones, face time too. All the good staff quit or was fired for helping the clients, one person was fired because she cared about us and not the money. The new people who work there the groups are dull and boring, you learn nothing. I would rather die then ever go back to that place. I advise you the one in prince Frederick is souvh better. They kick people out for sharing a vape, it's not allowed but you can share a wet cigarette, makes no sense. Two clients was just caught having sex in the yoga room and what happened?!

Treats clients like prisoners now, and fires all the staff that actually cares and wants to assist with getting back to being a productive member of society

This place claims to be a dual diagnosis center but yet it took weeks for me to get my mental health medication that I came in with. I saw the psychiatrist once in 60 days over zoom. This is NOT a dual diagnosis center. The rooms are dirty and you can get stuck in a room with someone detoxing after you have already been there for weeks. No one can be bothered to do their jobs, the BHT’s are constantly on their phones and the medical department treats you like your trash. They care more about what kind of insurance you have then helping you. The only people who actually cared were Kristen in the ZenDen and Holly the Alumni coordinator. This place will is not in the business of saving lives just billing insurance companies

I can no longer recommend this facility to anyone struggling with addiction. The people in charge of this facility care more about making a dollar than actually helping people. 2 years ago when I did attend this facility I lost my job when I got there because I wasn't allowed a safe call once I got there and wasn't able to call my job. I had to self advocate for a counselor because the one that was assigned to me was allowed to just do whatever she wanted which wasn't see her clients. Majority of the building got covid due to a staff member bringing it in the building and when we were all sick the only meds we were allowed to receive was mucinex. Cough drops were considered contraband. My whole stay there I never missed a group but when I got covid I couldn't get out of bed. I was then called into someone's office because I didn't go to group that one day. Sexual relations between staff members and patients seems to be part of the culture there and the higher ups dont do anything about it. The only good thing I had to say about that place is that certain staff members that worked there truly cared about us and did above and beyond to help us. These staff members are the reason I am still clean today 2 yrs later. Unfortunately all but one of those staff members have left that facility and one of the best recently has been fired for trying to help out a fellow addict. So if you are seeking help for your addiction I dont recommend this facility AT ALL!

this is honestly so disappointing and i’m heartbroken to write this review. this place SAVED MY LIFE last september. august 29th i will be one year clean (which i never imagined would come out of my mouth) and i couldn’t have done it without my AMAZING counselor rachel and the other staff members/group facilitators and alumni coordinator like jen, holly, and kristen. they were vital to my recovery and were exactly the people i needed during my time there. the alumni was also such a huge motivation for me and has been such a big part of my life even though i live in richmond, va. i drove all the way back up there to speak in front of the clients after i graduated because i wanted to help others the same way the alumni helped me while i was there. the calls from holly randomly as i drove home from work checking in on me and being excited about my milestones meant more to me than i could ever put in to words. i always smiled when i saw who was calling me. firing holly was the absolute worst decision this facility ever could’ve made. i am so sad for all of the past, present, and future clients. TEAM HB FOREVER!
