About Gaudenzia – WINNER Program

At Gaudenzia Winner Program, women with children can receive treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health struggles in a nurturing residential setting. This facility is located at West Tioga Street in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, about three miles southwest of Pennypack Park and southeast of the Germantown Historic District. It’s within walking distance of residential blocks and community spaces, yet close to expansive greenways and storied historic districts.
The program offers low cost care with coverage accepted through Medicaid and several commercial health insurances. Women with children are often less likely to enter residential treatment due to worries about their children’s safety. The Winners Program removes this major barrier by allowing women to live on-site with their children while they focus on recovery.

Gender-Specific and Trauma Informed Care

The Winners Program promotes long-term abstinence and recovery through high-intensity residential care. Daily activities include structured therapeutic sessions that promote emotional healing and the development of effective sober skills to prevent relapse. Therapy is both gender-specific and culturally appropriate.
This empowers residents to engage in care that truly reflects their experiences, values and strengths. Many women in recovery have experienced trauma such as intimate partner violence, sexual abuse or childhood neglect. They turned to drugs or alcohol as a way to cope with the deep pain tied to those experiences.
Recovery here integrates trauma-informed care using proven methods like Seeking Safety to help regain a sense of control while promoting emotional safety. It’s about letting you heal at your own pace in a way that feels respectful and empowering. Your care team will help you find a job, secure stable housing and access other essentials that support your stability as you transition to independent living in the community.

Care for Pregnant Women

Pregnant women who are addicted can be at a higher risk of complications during pregnancy. With a focus on nurturing maternal health and reducing the risk of fetal alcohol syndrome, pregnant women can receive dedicated support to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy as they work toward recovery.

If you want to get help. DO NOT COME HERE!!!!. 3 children, including a newborn, got RSV. It's disgusting, roach infested. Residents Actively relapse. The staff will talk about you and spread your business. The Child care there is disgustingand the child care staff just sit there all day long. You children will be left in there poopy pissy diapers, and honestly neglected. The director is corrupt. The last thing she said to. Me was "she's just going to end up in a mental hospital." DO NOT COME HERE!!!! Still haven't, BTW. I left on a Friday they said I have 7 days to pick up my things and on the next Friday the 7th day was told that I actually left on a wensday and the staff disposed of my things but didn't know where they put them at. There were only 4 staff members at the time. I was then contacted by a resident in winners that the other woman stole all of mine and my unborn daughters things. DO NOT COME HERE! I was heartbroken. I went back about a week ago to see if they could give me my username and password to my PA compass account so I could get some of my medicle records because I got diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and it would be beneficial to have THOSE FEDERAL RECORDS. Since then, I've still remained clean. I paid rent and basically done everything they said I couldn't. If you want to do good and take treatment seriously and want a better future for your children, DO NOT COME HERE!!! The groups are not good. The therapists are decent, but staff are constantly leaving and quitting, so I don't know how they would be now. It took almost 2 months just for them to get me my ID. They have no hygiene products. They lack resources. There is no structure. Your kids will be bored and not taken care of. It it very corrupt. Unfair. Dishonest. What I got out of there is that not everyone who works with people is good or even decent with working with people. I hope that the women I was there with got their lives the way they want/need/deserve. And their children too. I still cry that they let the women steal my daughters things. And that the director did not actually care about me or my daughter. The womab treats this place like jail even though it's a place of healing. Constant realapses, and it's actually disgusting. I wanted to leave the second i went there. Only . I'm heartbroken, and I wish that there was more that I could do to change the way that program MEANT TO HELP WOMEN AND CHILDREN be better and more beneficial. At the end of the day, if you want/need/ and have to have help for sobriety. DO NOT COME HERE!!!!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Level of care is dependent on admission assessment and referral source. Clients must be at least 18 years of age, drug and alcohol free (detox can be administered in-house), and meet Pennsylvania Client Placement Criteria (PCPC).

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Significant family members are welcome to participate in the Family Program. A family orientation session is scheduled shortly after admission. Any family member wishing to have visitation with the resident is required to attend the Family Program which meets every week.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Infested with mice and bed bugs. Counselors are not certified and are mentally and emotionally abusive to clients and their children. Women seeking help have a greater chance of relapse when entering this program.
