About Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health

Located in North Charleston, South Carolina, is Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health. They provide accessible, person focused services to help you work through behavioral health struggles impacting your life, whether it’s challenges with substance abuse or struggles with your mental health.

They provide accessible, age appropriate treatment for adolescents, adults, and seniors through inpatient and outpatient settings. Medically supervised detox and chemical dependency programs are also available here. I like that they have a virtual outpatient program for more accessible care.

Calming Recovery Environment

The facility is expansive and features a calming and quiet place for you to work through the issues you’re facing. The building is somewhat dated in style, and although they don’t have an array of bells and whistles to beckon you in, you’ll find the care team here is compassionate, kind, and will be with you throughout your time in residential treatment.

The building has a hospital-like feel to it, and there’s a really big focus on safety and security. For example, this is a no touch facility, and visitations are limited to certain times, must occur in the designated visiting common area, and there are restrictions on former patients visiting current patients.

Specialty Recovery Programs for Veterans

Their military treatment program is designed specifically for military veterans and service members who are battling life challenges brought on by substance abuse, trauma, or other behavioral health issues. They partner with military treatment facilities and can provide specialized support that addresses the unique challenges you’re battling.

I've had the chance to stay at Palmetto Summerville's Long Term Adolescent Unit twice, once from November to the end of December, and again more recently for about two months June To July . I can say that both experiences were life-changing, and this facility holds a very special place in my heart. I know there are mixed reviews about this place but my experience at Palmetto Summerville very positive both times. From the moment I arrived, I was treated with care, respect, and dignity. I was able to get a bed almost immediately, which is rare and I'm very grateful for. What truly sets this place apart, is the staff. Every single person I encountered was supportive, compassionate, and genuinely dedicated to helping us. I want to especially shout out some of the incredible staff members who made a lasting impact on me Mr. Levi Helped me tremendously with my attitude and mindset. He always knew how to keep it real while still showing kindness. His support made a huge difference in my growth. And he was like a father figure To me he let me get mad at him he'd never be mad he gave me the chance to express myself with judgement. Then Ms. Divine Hands down the best therapist I've ever had. And that means something coming from someone who's been in 16 different hospitals. She helped me dig deep into things I hadn't been able to work through before. And we laughed through all my sessions it was helpful to be able to laugh when I was struggling. Then Mr. Joey, Ms. Khadijah, Ms. Shayna, Ms. AB, Ms. Jess, Ms. Tee, Ms. Francis, Ms. Haylee, Ms. Isabel, both Ms. Emilys, Ms. Gianna, and many many more. All of you were incredible. Thank you for your patience, your encouragement, and your constant support. Ms. Shaniqua My absolute favorite. She made me laugh even during my darkest moments and genuinely felt like a mother figure to me. Her presence brought me comfort and strength when I needed it most. What I appreciated the most was that I never felt alone. There was always someone willing to talk, someone willing to listen without judgment. there was always a therapist, or tech, or another staff member, they made sure I felt seen, heard, and supported. This facility doesn't just house you it actively helps you heal. I came in struggling, and I left with better coping skills, a stronger sense of self, and real hope for my future. The structure, group therapy sessions, and one on one support helped me grow more than I ever thought possible. know everyone's journey is different, but if you're considering this place for yourself or a loved one, please know that healing is possible here. I would absolutely recommend Palmetto Summerville to anyone looking for real, compassionate behavioral health support especially teens who need a safe, structured, and encouraging environment to begin their healing journey. Thank you again to everyone who helped me. You changed my life for the better. -Angel grigg

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

I really enjoyed it. I was upset first couple days. But I learned alot and I really needed that experience. Im very appreciative of the staff and some patient who took there time to listen. First picture was the day I went 2nd is me now. The tools I learned from the groups taught me how to start loving myself again. Sincerely Amy Smith
