It is a good place for you to take a family member who needs special help. They will take good care of it, the process is slow but it is worth it.
About The Charles E. Shipman Center
The Charles E. Shipman Center is located in Greenville, South Carolina. This Center used to be called the Phoenix Center White Horse Academy but they changed the name to Charles E. Shipman.
Mr Shipman was a member of the Greenville Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. He also regularly provided Community Support Services through organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and other outreach services.
The building was renamed after him because of his dedication to helping adults and adolescents in the community lead a sober lifestyle following his own struggles with addiction use.
Charles E. Shipman Center helps provide evidence based treatment and education to children aged 11 to 15. Today, this location operates as a TrailHead Community Farm School that serves neurodivergent children, including children who might have experimented with substance use in the past.
Children who are enrolled here because of substance use struggles must have completed a treatment program and must have not experimented with substances in the past 6 months.
Age Appropriate Addiction Recovery Support
At the Charles E. Shipman Center children are treated with dignity and compassion as they navigate the struggles impacting their lives. I appreciate that in addition to receiving educational support in a non-traditional setting, there are mentors that children can turn to if they need support for other struggles they’re facing.
Some of the routine activities you’ll find here include gardening, hands on learning, animal therapy, life skills development like cooking, and BioFeedback to help teach children how to manage complex emotions.
I also find that children who have received services here say that they found a supportive community of peers where children felt accepted and understood. There is group therapy and community activities like nature adventures that allow children to connect with others in a meaningful way.
Continuing Support Through the Phoenix Center
Adolescents can still receive supportive care through the Phoenix Center, the organization which the Charles E Shipman Center operated under. Through that center, there are continuum of services including outpatient support for adolescents, teens, and adults.

Accepted Insurance
Other Forms of Payment
Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.
Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.
Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.
Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.
Addiction Treatments
Levels of Care
Outpatient rehabs provide flexibility and accommodation for clients who prefer to remain in their homes and workplaces while in recovery. They also facilitate clients' sustained sobriety for clients stepping down from intensive inpatient care. Clients may engage in day, evening, night, or weekend treatment sessions, which typically involve addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Many outpatient facilities also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) and evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga and massage.
Clients undergoing treatment in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) remain in or return to their homes following detox and/or inpatient rehab. They engage in multiple, extended treatment sessions weekly, with most intensive outpatient rehabs requiring between nine and 20 therapeutic hours per week. These programs are ideal for clients in early recovery and those at an elevated risk of relapse and typically combine counseling, recovery education, holistic care, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
Persons engaged in a 12 step program regularly attend group meetings in their communities, though online sessions are becoming increasingly popular. 12 step recovery is rooted in spiritual principles that enable participants to address the root causes of addiction and to foster self-awareness, compassion, acceptance, and accountability. Peer sponsors support participants as they work through the steps of recovery. Most programs are non-denominational, but specialized formats, including the faith-based Celebrate Recovery! format, are available.
If your friend or family member is living with a substance abuse issue, a drug intervention in South Carolina can help them accept the treatment they need. A drug intervention is a structured confrontation initiated by family and friends and facilitated by intervention services. The professional interventionist provides education about addiction, enabling, and available treatment options.
Treatments
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Choosing a drug rehab in South Carolina helps you overcome drug dependency, learn how to manage cravings, and obtain the tools needed to prevent relapse. This is accomplished through individualized treatment that addresses a full spectrum of physical, social, and emotional needs.
Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
Clinical Services
The main basis of cognitive behavioral therapy in South Carolina is that all your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. Therefore, the therapist will help you change your thoughts, which will lead to different emotions and actions.
If you struggle with managing your emotions, dialectical behavior therapy in South Carolina might be a good method of treatment for you. This form of talk therapy helps you learn to accept yourself while working on changing unhealthy patterns of thoughts and reactions.
There are four fundamental processes to motivational interviewing in South Carolina. Engaging involves careful listening to understand the client's perspective. Focusing involves reaching an agreement on the purpose of the treatment. Evoking is the process of exploring the client's ideas and motivations. Planning explores how the client can make changes.
The overall goal of trauma therapy is to address and reduce the lingering physical and emotional effects that trauma has had on your life. You work within a safe space with an experienced therapist to understand your responses and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
