About St. Elizabeth Healthcare

St. Elizabeth Healthcare Edgewood Hospital is a CARF accredited general medical hospital situated on Medical Village Drive in Edgewood, Kentucky. They’re one of several facilities under the St. Elizabeth Healthcare system providing compassionate care for communities across Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati. They offer a broad range of medical services such as emergency care, surgical procedures and specialized treatments.

They can also provide integrated addiction recovery services for patients dealing with substance use disorders or related conditions. The facility is accessible via Interstate 275, which has direct route access to nearby Cincinnati and Covington. They all serve patients from Florence via the Interstate 75 corridor. TANK bus routes serve this location and link to Florence and Covington. The facility is right within the Medical Village Campus. This allows you to access other services as necessary for general wellbeing.

Medication-Supported Addiction Recovery

St. Elizabeth Healthcare Edgewood Hospital offers personalized and trauma-informed substance use care for individuals and families struggling with unhealthy alcohol/drug dependency. Their staff are uniquely trained and grounded in clinical best practices that guarantee the best recovery outcomes. They also partner with agencies to break barriers that may impede your pathway to recovery. They primarily offer medication assisted treatment or MAT for opioid use disorder. This technique uses meds approved by the FDA alongside counseling to help you achieve lasting abstinence.

They may offer a prescription of Suboxone, Sublocade or Vivitrol depending on your personalized care. These meds curb cravings and eliminate painful withdrawal symptoms when taken as prescribed. You’ll then attend group and individual therapy to address underlying psychological issues and build strong coping skills to prevent relapse.

Peer support specialists can provide guidance, encouragement and firsthand insight from their own recovery experiences. They can link you to self-help groups or meetings like MAT groups to help you build strong support networks for lasting healing. Case managers provide community-based support and linkage. They can help you access transitional housing options, employment opportunities and much more. They also assist with budgeting, insurance and transportation.

The broader recovery services here also include tailored career planning and employment readiness training via a specialized program called Lift Up project. This program helps you acquire life skills and educational experience needed to enhance your employability through partnership with the Life Learning Center or KY Career Center. They also take care of challenges like legal problems that may hinder your employability. The goal is to help you achieve your full potential as a productive community member.

Support for Pregnant and Postpartum Women in Recovery

St. Elizabeth Healthcare also supports pregnant women and new mothers in recovery via the Baby Steps Program. Their trained nurses and peer experts can help you find suitable treatment via this program. This may include an inpatient program to begin MAT for those over 24 weeks pregnant. They can link you to 12-step meetings for pregnant and parenting women in MAT.

They can also help you establish or continue OB care and provide educational support focusing on the risk of withdrawal to newborns alongside neonatal abstinence syndrome. It’s all about supporting you and your family as you navigate childbirth and recovery. St. Elizabeth Healthcare Edgewood Hospital can also provide crisis intervention as part of its emergency care services for people experiencing mental health and substance use crises. This focuses on helping you stabilize, assessing your needs and providing ongoing treatment.

I worked in healthcare for 35 years and I’ve had both good and bad experiences at St. Elizabeth hospital. Most of the good was by some of the nurses and nurses aides. Wrongly diagnosed twice, treated with contempt by one of the emergency room physicians. Was discharged with anxiety and high blood pressure. No treatment given. Doctors are trained to listen to their patients. More often than not I’ve found that the doctor doesn’t listen to my issues. A few have been very understanding and listened closely to my concerns. I went to the emergency room with shoulder, neck pain and was sent home after a cardiac work up in the emergency room. A week later I suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the emergency room. I was immediately taken to the cath lab and had a stent inserted. A month later I had to have another stent inserted because the first one wasn’t properly inserted/working. The people of northern Kentucky need another hospital that will provide better treatment and care. In my opinion St E is not a top quality hospital. I’ve spoken with many people in the area and many don’t use St E. St. E needs to be more caring and patient oriented. This hospital has lost the meaning of holistic care! I think it’s ridiculous that you have to schedule an appointment with your doctor but can ONLY discuss one issue. Even though you have multiple issues going on! Which makes sick patients have to make appointments/ arrangements to get seen properly. St E hospital definitely needs to take a look at how they treat patients!

We were on vacation when a medical emergency came up. Everyone has been kind, compassionate, responsive, answered all our questions, and made us feel so welcome.

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

St. Elizabeth Healthcare works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Absolutely the worst hospital ever! My mom went into the er for pancreatitis.she had to be sedated and intubated and either during sedation or coming out of it she had a stroke. I noticed the symptoms right off the bat and kept bringing it up and was brushed off every single time! I noticed her pupils were different sizes and notified Cedric who was playing on his phone and was in no hurry to check her. Didn’t seem to give a crap either. Turns out she had a stroke like I had been mentioning the entire time and now she’s dead!!!!!!!

I'm not even sure as to where I begin. I will file complaints in the morning. I still don't fully believe Andrea the charge nurse on nights actually believed me, I feel she tried to gaslight me and push a narrative into my head to reshape a bad experience. Asking me why I was taking notes? Because that's my right, Andrea. I am responsible for paying the bill. I came in in excruciating pain. Sam the night nurse there at 10 PM tonight in the ER. Check your attitude. If you don't have the capacity to work in a high stress situation without being rude then maybe you shouldn't be in a fast pace medical environment. We were not in the wrong, you thought you'd keep my brother from being there with me but you thought wrong. None of you aside from Andrea when she decided to listen so she said handled the situation properly. The blonde nurse with you, the sentiment is the same for you, and if Sam is a close friend, if you want to keep your career I'd implement space. Bad eggs like that weed themselves out eventually. Mark, you did fantastic aside from saying my brother caused a disturbance and lacking de escalation skills. Kelly at the front desk, you felt uncomfortable? How about I felt uncomfortable because a place where I am supposed to feel safe in my time of need, felt like a war zone while I had a kidney stone moving through me. For your information, the reason my brother said he would be back in 7 minutes was to show you all what a measurement of time looked like. When asked when my pain medication would be given, shortly isn't acceptable when the physician who came into the room as I was brought in used the terminology quickly after 15 minutes had passed. Sam with her attitude saying we will be there in a minute is what started this weird interaction. Check your tones, your attitudes, and learn to see from the perspectives of others. You may feel safe and protected because I allowed you all to continue treatment instead of leaving and filing my complaint, but I know I was not the first to experience your poor bedside manner, I won't be the last and karma will catch up to you. Andrea, I hope you meant what you said because for a time there you were sliding on thin ice where ethics are concerned. Asking why we wanted names? You all wear name badges and why would I not want the names of the people responsible for my care? I cannot tell if you people need therapy, new jobs, or a vacation but please redirect yourselves to a broader place of professionalism because your behaviors tonight were questionable- actually unethical. Glad I passed my stone and grateful for the help. I won't ever give a dime to St. E Edgewood again. Addition, I am still baffled how ER nurses aren't trained to handle a distressed family member worried for their family- requesting to know when relief will be provided. Rather than responding with attitude, respond with empathy, give transparency IE "We are working as quickly as we can to get XYZ to the patient, it should only be X amount of minutes as we placed an order" vs shortly or we'll be there in a minute. Tone is everything as well. It's more likely for a patient or family visitor to be under distress, staff should be trained to read situations, read people and be able to act accordingly to diffuse situations and drive impactful results. This is still insane to me. I mean they got me treated, but that singular experience, trying to keep my brother, my safe haven and support who sacrificed sleep for work to be at my side from me because a nurse couldn't maintain a professional stance? I mean the charge nurse let him come back, and I'm grateful. But for any of you to say you were uncomfortable with him advocating for me and asking for names when he made it very clear it was for a report to your company about the overall experience and impact is insane. I mean seriously insane. I was the one WITH A KIDNEY STONE SLIDING DOWN MY URETER AND YOU ALL MADE ME EVEN MORE UNCOMFORTABLE FROM STRESS OF YOUR ACTIONS. The audacity. Where was the regard for me, the patient. I hope her apology was sincere, Andreas.

If you're very worried about getting a loved one seen or your baby thinking there's something very wrong with them please DO NOT GO here. They put my daughter down for vomiting, which is why we sat in the waiting room for 2 hours and never got seen. Because I was threatened by security to be removed off of the property because they put my daughter down for vomiting, not not being able to breathe having an earache, losing weight, excessive sleeping, this hospital is a joke. To have a police presence there for something else but then gets involved in my situation and reassures me that they completely understand where i'm coming from.Goes to show you how much of a joke This hospital is, and there security.
