I am writing this because I am disgusted by the treatment of one of the Grandstand residents living in building 1100. The instigators are clients of the Transitional Family Services located in Marietta, GA that occupy numerous apartments within the complex with 2 to 3 people in every unit. The man is a middle aged gay short man who keeps to himself. I have witness them calling him a faggot, punk, along with other hateful speech. In addition there is a ring leader amongst the group who is rallying the other residents along with the other participants within the TFS program. He tried to get me to join the, what I call, the witch hunt. It is a disgrace that anyone could treat an individual in this manner. Everyone should be able to live in peace. In addition, the main individual even mentioned to me that they entered his apartment thru a crawl space in the rafters gaining entry and obtaining his information of being a gay and described his belongings within the apartment. This is troublesome! The following day he moved from building 900 to building 1200. I have seen the entire TFS group walking by his apartment and pointing up to his balcony notifying of his location, In addition every time the young man is on his patio or walk his dog they are taunting him. They have made a conscious effort to make this man's life unbearable. The neglect of the main office of TFS has had me make a decision to write this unfavorable review due to the disgusting things I have witnessed. I understand that everyone deserves second chances and they probably have saved many life but Enough is Enough.

We have been patients with TFS for 2 years. I read the other 2 reviews and felt I had to share my experience to give people balance. I would hate for someone in need (like I was) to read those 2 reviews and make a decision solely off their subjective experiences. First off, I work for the Dept. of Public Health and the complaint about meeting with the Psychiatrist over the computer should be weighed lightly. Many doctors, hospitals, clinics etc. are experimenting with telehealth to reach more people and service more clients. I actually KNOW the director over telehealth for the State so please know that this practice is not uncommon. I've actually met with the doctor via telegraph before and physically being in person didnt change our level of service. The nurses have always done the physical aspects of our visits even when the psychiatrist was present. The psychiatrist just talks and writes prescriptions. As far as the other review that addresses his foster child, we share some common experiences. Yes, we filled out a ton of intake paperwork with an office staff member and we signed electronically. HOWEVER, I simply asked the lady to turn the screen around so that I could make sure what I was signing was what she was telling me and she obliged. Scheduling CAN be a beast sometimes and they have dropped the ball on a few occasions but once we get back on track, the service is great. Before I found TFS we were going through a lot with my daughter's behavior. I could NEVER say anything bad because my daughter is behaving normally now, because of them . They meet us at our home, at the school, at the daycare (when she attended) wherever. What is there to complain about? They have changed our lives for the better and given me PEACE again. Yes, there are some flaws but not enough to throw the baby out with the bath water. When I couldn't find ONE doctor within a 30 mile radius to give us the level of counseling we needed with our insurance, THEY were there. And still are. So...there you go. There's my peace.

I wish there was an option for "0 stars", everything about this Transitional Family Services office is terrible. We went there with our adopted child since they take Amerigroup and their website claimed to have experience in the foster care/adoption area, they had zero experience dealing with children. Their waiting area is falling apart (which is a problem when you are stuck waiting there for 30 minutes without even being acknowledged while staff walks by you to go outside for breaks). Next step is the ridiculous intake process, where a non-therapist unfriendly person will ask you and your child endless questions that any person with sense knows are totally unacceptable to ask a child or discuss in front of them, then they will ask you and your child to sign dozens of legal forms on an electronic signature pad without being able to see what you are actually signing (only they can see it on their screen, and they won't turn it to show you)- likely totally not legal, and then they will not call you to set up an appointment.... ever. Not even after you complain to the Regional Director and get an apology email in return, they still will not actually schedule your appointment and it will all be a big waste of time. I have no idea how they maintain their license or have clients, but I could not "not not recommend" them any more strongly.

Accepted Insurance

Transitional Family Services works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Aftercare, which is sometimes referred to as continuing care or relapse prevention, is a type of structured care meant to help you continue with the progress you've made after completing an addiction treatment program. Most of the time, you'll continue receiving support after a treatment program by partnering with their case managers and staff to identify and access the resources you need to remain sober.

12-step icon12-Step

Participants in 12 step recovery programs focus on personal growth to address the emotional and psychological factors contributing to their addiction. 12 step recovery is rooted in spiritual development, but religious affiliation isn't required. Regular group meetings and individualized support with the help of self-selected sponsors promote participants' sobriety as they work through the 12 steps, gaining insight into their addiction, taking responsibility for their life choices, and releasing control over that which is uncontrollable.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

While cognitive behavioral therapy in Georgia is unique for each person, this therapy follows a standard structure that has proven effective. Clients first learn about their substance use disorder, then learn and practice techniques such as coping, stress management, and resilience to change their thought and behavior patterns.

While each person is unique, the typical length for dialectical behavior therapy is six months to a year. You'll attend weekly hour long individual sessions with your therapist, as well as weekly group sessions. Homework between sessions often includes keeping a diary to track your emotions and behaviors. Your therapist uses this diary to guide the focus of each session.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

During rehab in Georgia, you may engage in motivational interviewing. This typically lasts one to two sessions and is designed to address any ambivalence you have toward change. It helps you explore your current situation and motivations and commit to making changes for the future.

In trauma therapy, you address the emotional and psychological effects of traumatic events in your life. Your therapist provides you with the tools you need to process those memories and reduce the symptoms. This helps improve your overall mental health and functioning.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
