About Cedar Oaks Wellness Center

Resting on 120 acres of sprawling grounds just outside Cincinnati, Cedar Oaks Wellness Center is an inpatient drug and alcohol rehab that makes healing feel possible. They’re based in Oregonia, Ohio. In addition to residential care, they also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT), detox, and a dual diagnosis program for those experiencing substance use disorder and mental health concerns.

Their secluded and peaceful location is the perfect backdrop for your healing journey, and it gives you the chance to connect with nature and focus on your recovery without the distractions of everyday life.

During treatment, they use motivational interviewing (MI), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) techniques to help you build the skills necessary for lasting sobriety.

A great thing about Cedar Oaks Wellness Center is the way they truly tailor your treatment program to fit you. They don’t believe in taking a one-size-fits-all approach to addiction, and so they go out of their way to make unique treatment programs for each of their clients.

The staff also deeply understand how addiction is chronic in nature and needs long-term solutions, not quick fixes. They help you understand how substances affect your body and mental state, and work with you to reprogram unhealthy habits and damaging behavior patterns to prevent relapse.

They also include extensive aftercare planning, so you feel supported long after your treatment is complete. They connect you to resources that help you maintain sober habits. You’ll also be able to stay connected to your peers through their alumni app, which you gain lifetime access to when you’ve completed treatment.

Cedar Oaks Wellness was an absolute life changer for me. The campus and staff were both vital in my recovery. I cannot give enough thanks to AJ, one of the group facilitators. Her methods of teaching are unlike any other I have ever experienced, and absolutely changed my perspective on many aspects of my life for the better. She taught me how to cultivate true meaning and how to give myself grace that I lacked for most of my life. My counselor Carmela taught me how to be present in the moment and to avoid the constant worry of the future. The discharge coordinator Ben was also a huge help in keeping me on the right track and presenting me with options of continued treatment with honesty. The nursing staff and resident assistants were very professional and personable, as well as Jeff and Betsy in the kitchen. Beyond the hot meals they served, the genuine care they showed created a comfortable atmosphere. Their attention and precision of each persons dietary needs was impressive.Thank you AJ and thank you Cedar Oaks

Accepted Insurance

Cedar Oaks Wellness Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are designed to ensure clients receive continuing care while in the maintenance phase of recovery. Some clients may be in outpatient treatment, which is generally considered to be an element of drug rehab aftercare. The specific services provided in these programs are often determined by the client's case manager and care team in consultation with the client. Common services include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.
12-step icon12-Step
Many treatment centers base their recovery models on the 12 step programming standard, which combines intensive peer support with spiritual, psychological, and emotional growth. Participants in 12 step recovery programs are expected to regularly attend group meetings, which are free, anonymous, peer-led, and open to the public. They are also required to select a sponsor to guide them through the recovery journey. These programs deploy spiritual principles to foster participants' self-understanding, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services help family members prepare for a drug intervention in Ohio. During an intervention, family members typically read letters they have prepared that explain how the individual's substance abuse has affected their lives and relationships. Each family member also explains what they will do if the individual does not agree to get treatment. An intervention specialist offers support to guide this discussion and makes appropriate treatment recommendations.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Designed for individuals with moderate to severe addictions, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides a more intensive form of outpatient therapy. PHP treatment can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option after being discharged from a hospital or residential program. A partial hospitalization program typically requires a minimum of 20 hours weekly for an average of 90 days. Depending on your care plan, PHPs can include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy services.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Medical detox involves clearing your body of drugs and/or alcohol under the 24/7 care of licensed medical professionals. If you've become dependent on alcohol or drugs (like benzodiazepines or opioids), quitting abruptly can have uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects. The purpose of medically assisted detox is to keep you as safe and comfortable as possible during this process. Medications like Suboxone or Vivitrol may be provided if necessary to mitigate any withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Ohio may occur in individual, group, or family sessions. It involves focusing on specific thought and behavior problems. Participants learn coping techniques and are asked to practice them as homework between sessions.

The main goals of dialectical behavior therapy are to teach you how to regulate your emotions, develop positive ways to cope with stress, improve your relationships, and live in the moment. This therapy lasts about six months and involves weekly individual and group sessions.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

With trauma therapy, you can reclaim your life after witnessing or experiencing a traumatic event. Therapists help you process the memories, which promotes emotional healing and enables you to build resilience to navigate future challenges and triggers.

Some couples therapy in Ohio is designed as short term treatment to address a specific problem in the relationship, such as anxiety, depression, or addiction. Other couples therapy may focus on general strengthening of the relationship by improving interactions.

Family therapy offers a group time to collectively make an effort to understand and combat the issues and challenges associated with addiction. Therapists work with family members to establish healthy boundaries between each other and their loved one who is addicted, improve emotional support systems, and work together toward a sustained long term recovery.

Life skills provide stability. They increase the strengths that you bring to recovery by equipping you with the tools you need to navigate daily life. During rehab, you'll develop these strengths through life skills training that focuses on both cognitive and behavioral abilities.

Nutrition therapy helps with detox and drug rehab treatment in Ohio. This treatment gives you the skills you need to develop healthy eating habits, which help you recover more quickly and maintain long term sobriety.

Recreational therapy supports recovery from drug and alcohol addiction by providing you with enjoyable activities that improve your physical and mental health. When you engage in sports, creative arts, and nature excursions, it helps reduce your cravings and stress levels while building a supportive community of peers who can help promote your long term sobriety.

Creative arts therapy can be an effective tool for recovery. It can relieve depression and anxiety and help you feel more in control of your life. Through creative expression, it can help you explore difficult emotions and process challenging situations.

Where do I begin on giving an honest, transparent review of Cedar Oaks? I’ll start with the exterior atmosphere, often referred to as "The Enchanted Forest." Yes—it absolutely lives up to that name. The natural surroundings, the peaceful quiet, and the gentle beauty of the grounds offer a truly calming and restorative environment. I happened to be there during a time of renovations, which did create a bit of chaos at times. However, I wasn’t there for comfort or perfection—I was there to heal. And in that sense, the setting provided the space I needed. That said, there were a few inconsistencies that are worth mentioning. Some of the staff interactions and rules felt unclear or unevenly enforced. My personal clothing, which they laundered upon arrival, was returned damaged, and a few items were missing. I also never received certain approved hygiene products. These details were frustrating in the moment but, in the bigger picture of my experience, they were minor. What I truly want to address is the counseling staff. If you’ve ever been to treatment before, you know the routine: handouts, worksheets, and a lot of psychoanalytical, repetitive content. After a while, you can recite it in your sleep. But at Cedar Oaks Wellness (COW), it was presented differently. How differently? Let me tell you. I had two counselors who made a lasting impact—Dee-Dee and Ms. A.J. And let me be honest: Ms. A.J. should be running the entire program. I don’t say that because we became close—I say it from the heart. She gets it. She’s not just teaching people how to stop using drugs or alcohol; she’s teaching how to live once the stronghold is gone. How to manage life without turning to addiction or other destructive behaviors. Her approach goes beyond the surface. She’s passionate about helping people uncover the real reasons we seek escape—the unresolved pain, trauma, or patterns that lead us there in the first place. No one in any of my previous treatment experiences ever addressed that. And that’s a shame. Because what she’s doing is the real work that leads to lasting change. Here’s the game changer—and I’m speaking personally now. By just two weeks in, A.J. had taught me more about myself than any therapist, doctor, or treatment center I’ve ever worked with before. That’s not an exaggeration. Her insight, empathy, and ability to reach people where they are—it was life-changing. But then her schedule was changed. I went from seeing her three hours a day to maybe two hours, four days a week—if the schedule didn’t change last minute, which it often did. Instead, they added a "specialty group" that, honestly, if insurance companies knew what they were being billed for, it wouldn’t be acceptable. We were given handouts with pictures of houses and ships and told to relate them to our recovery. It felt disconnected and ineffective. At one point, they brought in a nutritionist. Sounds great in theory—but in reality, he had nothing to do with the meals we were eating and spent the session leading us in a game of Food Feud. Meanwhile, much of the food we were actually served was pasta and fried foods—though, to be fair, in my final days there, healthier options did begin to appear. Now, back to the staff. I want to be clear: I had no negative issues with any other counselors. But here’s my honest thought—if certain counselors like A.J. are consistently getting shout-outs in reviews and real feedback from clients, maybe leadership should pay attention. Because what she’s doing goes beyond credentials and textbooks. Sometimes, having a bunch of letters after your name just means you memorized the curriculum. A.J. doesn’t just have letters—she has names behind her. People she’s helped, people she’s impacted. Lives she’s saved. She teaches from the heart, and you can’t fake that.

This place has a recovery program that is a definite cut above the rest. I have been to a handful over the past several years and this one made the difference. Great staff and counselors that don’t mess around. They definitely aren’t your run of the mill, cookie cutter rehab. If you’re serious and looking for something different; and not afraid of doing intensive work, recommend this place. On the other hand…if you’re looking to just to get a little time under your belt - and a little r&r…this might not be for you!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We're genuinely delighted to learn that our program stood out and had a meaningful impact on you. 😊 We truly appreciate your recognition of our dedicated team and unique approach. Thank you for sharing your insights with others who might be seeking a serious transformation journey. Wishing you continued success and strength on your path!

Although my loved one did not choose to go to this rehabilitation center, I am recommending it to anyone seeking help just based off the interactions I had with some of the staff from the phone conversations. Gabriella an intake/call center member was so kind and when she didn’t believe at first our insurance would qualify him treatment at their center offered to find local places that did. That is truly exceptional and she did not have to do that. As well as the supervisor, John offering to have others call as well. I can only imagine the treatment and dedication they give to those who attend this center for recovery. I believe with the support he had before even being admitted this would have been a great fit and thus would recommend to someone.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We sincerely appreciate your kind words and recommendation! It’s heartwarming to hear about the positive experience you had with our team. We’re passionate about helping people and it’s wonderful to know it made a difference. Wishing your loved one all the best on their journey to recovery!

Of the four different rehab facilities I’ve been to, cedar oaks is head and shoulders above the rest. The rules are fair, they treat you like a human, the curriculum is highly relevant, makes sense, and in general you get the feeling that the staff actually care. From the beautiful setting and scenery to the 100% cotton bedsheets, everything is there to create a super safe place to work on yourself. 10/10 highly recommended.
