About Emory Decatur Hospital

Emory Decatur Hospital is located in Decatur, Georgia, a walkable suburb in the Atlanta metro area, six miles from downtown Atlanta. This 451 bed hospital was founded in 1961 and is part of the Emory Healthcare network, an academic health system and the most comprehensive in Georgia. The hospital offers comprehensive healthcare services, including emergency care and crisis intervention for clients experiencing a mental health or substance related crisis.

They offer detoxification and stabilization, as well as inpatient and outpatient addiction and mental health treatment programs for individuals with co-occurring disorders. Emory accepts health insurance from most major providers, including TRICARE, Medicaid, and Medicare.

Recently Renovated Behavioral Health Facility

The behavioral health facility has 30,000 square feet and is separate from the hospital and recently underwent a $22 million renovation. The center offers advanced treatments, such as ketamine infusions, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMC). Clients who come in through the emergency room and need additional behavioral health treatment will be referred to the behavioral health facility.

Filling Critical Needs

The new center fills a critical gap in providing mental health services for all. For those who might need wound care or have a sleeping disorder because of drug use, specialists are standing by. There’s a specialized outpatient geriatric partial hospitalization program (PHP) for seniors. Care is also integrated with the Emory Brain Health Center, which focuses on treating brain conditions.

Great job to all during the process to insert a Boston Heart Monitor this morning. You took the time and care to prepare me mentally and physically for the inserting of the device noting my existing medical conditions and even walking me to the bathroom, waiting and seeing me to the outside exit door. The Boston Monitor rep explained the device well for my technical experience and Dr Leal performed the insertion smoothly and expertly. Thanks again, Cecelia Kane

Addiction Treatments

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

What a horrible experience. Was dumped on a gurney in the ER where no one spoke to me for the first hour. The next 11 hours I was left in the hallway, given no medication of any kind. No food, drink or treatment. Couldn’t wait to leave. What a disappointment when the Emory name promised so much.

Response from the owner
