Services at Dekalb Medical Center are offered in age-specific formats. Programs include medication-assisted treatment and intensive outpatient programs (IOP).

Intensive Outpatient Programs
A separate intensive outpatient program is available for adolescents and for adults. Clients begin with a psychiatric consultation to identify areas of challenge and to create a treatment plan. Individuals attend treatment three days per week for three hours at a time. Skills training, psychotherapy, and relapse-prevention programming are offered.

Medication-Assisted Treatment
Medication-assisted treatment is for individuals who would benefit from FDA-approved medications in combination with mental health counseling. Dosing is available through trained staff.

We came to the ER this morning around 5:15 this morning and my mom was having a reaction to her prescription meds and some of them was treating her like she was a junkie. We kept telling everybody who asked what she had but they wasn’t listening to us. The bed side team was awful. I’m not sure his name but he was African he should have his license reviewed because he couldn’t find a vein and he decided to put the needle in her hand. He pulled it in and out hurting my mother because her couldn’t find a vein in her hand neither. The young lady who had on green was amazing, she came in and got the job done with no problem. My mom kept telling them she couldn’t breathe and they told her she’s ok then looked at her oxygen levels and saw it dropped to 76 and then they gave her oxygen. They checked on my mom every 45 minutes to an hour, but only to give her meds. That’s not how you treat somebody. The only reason I’m give a 3 star was because of the young lady in green.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
