I was referred to delta specialty hospital August last year for detox, and I truly mean it was the WORST experience of my life. I walked in to the most hateful person I’ve ever met, a man who was angry bc he had to do my intake. I get taken to the dual diagnosis floor for detox, and immediately see a tech, feet propped up, on her phone asleep. It took an hour for the nurse to ask me questions and do my vitals. I get taken to my “room” where no bed had sheets, except the one with dirty blankets and sheets (I was told to use those when I asked for new ones) and enter the bathroom to feces in and on the toilet, and a urinalysis cup full of urine of the previous patient. I was unable to contact anyone for DAYS, they would not give my emergency contact any info, not even confirm I was THERE, and didn’t even give me medication during withdrawal for the first 1-2 days. I was quite literally miserable. 90% of the techs were hateful, rude, judgmental, and would literally call any of people struggling with addiction “junkies and pieces of shit”. I could NEVER get in contact with a Dr or case worker. I saw my case worker I think twice in the 8 days they would NOT let me leave, and she was useless to me. The only way I got through those 8 days was dissociating from the situation and hoping to god that I would get out every single day that passed. I wanted to leave the day I got there, and no one took what I was saying into consideration. It wasn't because I didn’t want detox, I genuinely wanted to go ANYWHERE but this place. Please, never ever go to this hospital. The rehab I ended up going to after this even contacted them telling them to transfer me and let me go, and reported them to the state. Even after I finished my detox meds (4 day taper) I was STILL there for 2 more days for literally no reason. They kept me for one reason, to drain my insurance for everything they could. Let’s also not forget, I did not receive my CLOTHES I brought for THREE DAYS. yes, I was stuck in the same clothes for days (also as a female on my cycle at the time I entered this hell hole). They would lock us out of our rooms ALL DAY, with only one restroom in the day room, but guess what? The toilet was out of order 90% of the time I was there! Oh, and they took the one water jug we had away, and replaced it with a tea pitcher which would be empty the moment they filled it because there were many patients, and then the nurses would get ill bc they had to keep filling it up! Oh, and the day they made us eat a sack lunch, and our chicken salad sandwiches were infested with ANTS! I mean, I really wish I WAS making this up. To think there are truly mentally ill people in this place, who cannot advocate for themselves is heartbreaking. Even being me, who did advocate for myself, I still didn’t get anywhere or any help that I needed during detox. The only thing that made this bearable was the two community cigarettes I got everyday and I don’t EVEN smoke cigs! This place needs shut down. Period.

Accepted Insurance

Delta Specialty Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

I now see why they have constant job openings. Today’s experience was nothing short of disorganized and unprofessional. They fail to disclose crucial details upfront, such as the pay rate and mandatory week-long orientation. This issue leaves potential new hires in the dark until after accepting the offer. I feel like my time was completely wasted, and I don’t appreciate it. Thankfully, I have other opportunities elsewhere, and I couldn’t be more relieved!

The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because SOME of the staff were very friendly. Other than that; food was terrible, I was discharged onto the streets after being dropped off in a wheelchair on the side of the Union Mission just to be told I couldn't stay there due to my lack of movement which I already knew they would because I had been there through delta already and was denied. From the words of the person, whom was very friendly

This place is awful!!! Food is terrible Dr Usha Swamy is a horrible doctor. None of my orders were put in and I was held against my will although I was there voluntary. I was there for fentanyl detox and was treated horribly. DO NOT GO HERE. This place is a jail. They wake you up at 6am and sit you in a dayroom for 13 hours in hard chairs.....no therapy or educational groups. Lakeside is 10x better than this place .

Delta is a hospital that specializes in mental health treatment for adults experiencing a variety of behavioral health needs including detox, dual diagnosis, dementia, psychosis, and patients that are a danger to themselves and others. It appears that some reviews have followed the facility since changing direction from when Delta was primarily a medical/ ER hospital. The staff do provide compassionate treatment to the patients in their care. They have staff with years of experience in behavioral health. Delta treats some of the hardest to treat patients in the greater Memphis community. Their providers are established, reputable medical professionals in the behavioral health field. Treatment, care and discharge planning are individualized to the patient. During times of crisis, Delta may serve as that beacon of hope. I would recommend giving Delta and their team consideration when determining the best care for you or a loved one.

I stayed at delta back in 2019. The staff was wonderful, the food was great, the overall experience was 10/10. The doctors listened and we got to go outside multiple times a day. The medication prescribed helped alot. If I had another mental breakdown again I will go back.

Delta complaint My stepdad was brought over here from an ER yesterday with mild suicidal thoughts from a slight addiction to some medicine he would like to get off of. I have been trying to schedule a meeting with the administrator social worker whomever to discuss his previous history as on a call and told me to show up. they are refusing to even let me into the facility much less schedule a meeting to talk to anyone and saying that’s just the policy of the hospital and now waited in the cold out front for an hour! I’m waiting on the social advocate Mark to come back out as he wouldn’t even let me into the facility to enter into a conference room where we can talk intelligently about the future care. I believe I’m just going to have to pull my stepdad out of this facility, after seeing the horrible ratings and comments that are copied and pasted answered by Sunny Bunny and provided an email rather than real face to face meetings. I’m pulling my step dad ! When pulling him out, I picked him up in the lobby, and my Dad had on the same hospital pants form the day before, and was wearing a dirty t-shirt that was not even his! I asked for his clothes and coat he had on and they said when he arrived, ha had nothing with him!? Only after arguing the point, the recpetionist walked back into the office and came out with a brown paper sack, that had HIS clothes. Lastly, when we got him home, they failed to remove the wristband with tracker, and I had to curt off with Wire cutters. I sent an email to the facilty and have yet to hear back. shocker

The techs here are very rude, the nurses ignore you, and Dr Virk is Extremely dismissive of anything that you're having problems with. They never did get my meds right and the patient advocate is a joke. Also, the geriatric unit is absolutely disgusting and smells awful. Alot of our so called "meals" were Hamburger Helper. Please don't send Anyone that you care about here!
