About Embark Behavioral Health – Rockville

Embark Behavioral Health of Rockville, Maryland provides outpatient treatment to teens and young adults with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Joint Commission accredited, they offer financing and payment plans to those who qualify, as well as verification of benefits prior to admission. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate work, school and family commitments.
Evidence Based, Trauma Informed Care
With an emphasis on trauma informed care and family counseling, they offer intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs. Evidence based modalities are employed, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and experiential therapy.

You’ll learn to identify your substance use triggers and develop relapse prevention strategies to maintain your sobriety. I like that aftercare and step down services are provided to deliver ongoing support. Members of the LGBTQ+ community are made to feel welcome and included.
Comfortable, Supportive Environment
I found positive reviews of the facility, with former clients praising the compassionate and highly skilled staff. They cite significant improvements in emotional regulation, family dynamics and coping skills. Many highlight the comfortable, supportive environment and individualized care.

Rockville offers a number of parks and outdoor spaces that may serve to compliment your outpatient therapy. Rock Creek Regional Park spans 1800 acres of woodlands, with trails that stretch all the way to the Potomac River in Washington DC. It’s also the home of Lake Needwood, a 75 acre reservoir where you can rent canoes, kayaks and pedal boats for a day of recreation in nature.

boi i love embark so much. i went there for about 10 months (way longer than i needed to) but it was great and i miss everyone so much! staff are the coolest, they all know what their doing and try to help clients to the best of their ability. staff always make therapy fun even when it can be a boring topic. i remember most of the clients i have met and i really loved them all. everybody has their own personality and their own experience to share, i think it is really special when everyone is engaged and having fun. I have made so many friends that i can stay in contact with after leaving, which is really cool. i think one of the hardest parts of being there so long and then leaving was to leave the memories and people that i have been with for so long. The space is really comfortable! the group room has beanbags and theres experiential tables where clients can do cool stuff and homework ugh. there are also a good amount of therapy rooms for individual sessions as well. hoorah. at the start for me, i hated being there everyday and i didnt like the staff very much, it was probably because it was a change from school.BUT when i did give them a chance and actually put in the effort to try to get better, it was amazing. learning all of the skills i can use when i need is really nice to have and has really helped me recently. they were so supportive of me toward the end and it was so sad, although i had to move on💔 i recommend this place 100000% because i truly had an outstanding experience with them and now i am in such a better place than 10 months ago😎 now this place may not be for everyone and it is good for people to be in the right space that makes themselves comfortable and gives the space to grow. may everyone who comes to this place for what they need, seek the help they need to thrive in life because everyone deserves to have the life they want. oh and i cant forget to tell you that vic fuentes is MINE. always. i dont have a nickname for that one guy but he knows who he is- he knows knows my king kachow miss everyone💕💕 yall keep shining and uh dont forget about pete the cats cool legacy and did i mention vic fuentes. yes.

My child attended IOP at the Embark in Rockville. I am very happy with our experience there. The approach this facility takes to help kids and their families is beneficial to both child and parents. The staff is kind, caring and attentive. The therapist my child saw, Andrew, is very good at his job. My child felt comfortable with him and they made great progress together. He also conducted our family sessions which I found to be pleasant and productive, even when dealing with delicate issues. I would definitely recommend this place to those who are seeking mental health intervention for their child.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients who are leaving inpatient rehab often choose to transition into an intensive outpatient program (IOP) to receive high-level support as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Intensive outpatient rehab also benefits those at risk of relapse. Clients typically participate in nine to 20 hours of treatment weekly, with modalities ranging from psychotherapy to addiction and recovery education. Many programs also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT) and complementary care, such as nutrition counseling, and acupuncture.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term intensive rehab option designed to provide treatment during the day and you're able to return home at night. PHP treatment offers structured programming, including individual and group therapy, typically meeting 3-5 days a week for 6-8 hours per day. PHP duration averages around 90 days, with some programs offering amenities like transportation and meals.

Treatments

Maryland's addiction experts understand the importance of dual-diagnosis addiction treatment in their inpatient and outpatient recovery programs. Dual-diagnosis means having two mental health disorders at the same time, like addiction and depression. By treating individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions simultaneously, they can enhance recovery outcomes and improve overall health, reducing the risk of relapse. Programs include evidence-based therapies, family counseling, recovery support groups, and skills training. Additional services may include medically assisted detox, 12-Step facilitation, equine therapy, complementary treatments, and alumni programs.

Treatment for drug and alcohol addiction often centers on improving mental health. Inpatient care is ideal for people who need closer monitoring while receiving therapeutic and mental health services. Standard therapies include group and individual counseling, relapse prevention education, coping skills training, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing and family support groups. With all critical therapies combined, there is a greater chance for improving mental health and achieving sustained recovery.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Maryland emphasizes your current life rather than what has happened in the past. Your therapist will help you develop methods to deal with current and future challenges so you can cope in healthy ways that don't involve substances.

Individualized one on one therapy allows the therapist to focus on your specific challenges and strengths. Using a personalized approach enables the therapist to help you develop effective coping mechanisms and build a more stable and fulfilling substance free life.

Accreditations

The Joint Commission, formerly known as JCAHO, is a nonprofit organization that accredits rehab organizations and programs. Founded in 1951, the Joint Commision's mission is to improve the quality of patient care and demonstrating the quality of patient care.

My son was transferred to Embark Rockville following treatment at Embark's residential facility in Montana. Two days into the IOP, I realized the clinic was not a good fit for my son; however, we proceeded. The following items are a brief summary of the issues: - the IOP psychiatrist wanted to change my son's medication regimen on day one prior to even meeting him. I asked about using our own psychiatrist and was told that was not an option. - My son and I were driving from over an hour away. Unfortunately, I suffered from food poisoning one morning. I emailed the office admin at 5:19 a.m. to advise that we would not be able to make the drive that day with me being sick. I was told I would be charged a late-cancellation fee of $125 due to not giving 24-hours’ notice. I'm not sure the staff understood how food poisoning works; it does not give 24-hours’ notice. - The therapist assigned to my son would not meet with his therapist from the residential program to gain insight into my son's progress and goals. My son was in the residential program for over 90 days. One would think working with a therapist who saw my son twice weekly in addition to group sessions would help with providing the best care possible. Instead, the IOP therapist pushed her own agenda. - My son went to Embark's residential program for extreme anxiety and depression. He was never seen for substances-abuse issues because he did not have them. The welcome packet from the IOP states, "some clients may require medication compliance or substance use testing. [...] testing [...] is dependent upon several factors: client's length of time in the program, history of medication compliance, history of substance abuse/misuse, and progress toward treatment goals." I was never told by staff that my son was tested. I was told via LabCorp when I received a bill for the testing. I decided to withdraw my son from the IOP after encountering these issues. The regional director reached out saying I would be receiving a call from Rockville's clinical director to discuss my decision. After a bit of phone tag, I emailed the clinical director to advise when I would be available to speak with her. As of May 24, 2024, I am still awaiting a call back from the clinical director. Interestingly enough to note: the negative reviews I read prior to my son attending the IOP have been removed. I do not expect my negative, yet honest, review to stand the test of time either.

Embark played a huge role in the improvement in our family's lives. Too few teens or adolescents get the help they need to navigate today's challenges. I would recommend Embark to anyone who has a child in crisis.

This place has been a godsend!! When individual therapy was getting us nowhere, Embark has opened up, supported, and equipped us with tools to move forward on our journey of healing. Thank you! I also want to give a 1-year update...I still consider Embark to have been the best therapeutic choice we made. Things are so much better for us. We continue to use tools we learned there. Embark helped our family through some really dark times. Thank you.

I would give Embark 10 stars! The entire staff works together meaning they communicate with each other for the better of their clients. Dr. Gill, psychiatrist, was amazing at determining medications that were not working (unprescribed them) and switching them out for ones that did help stabilize client. Alyssa, individual & family therapist, was also amazing. In my opinion, she is a strong therapist meaning she listens to what clients are trying to say, the activities helped with understanding each other, she made it feel safe to speak about tough topics. The best part is the phone coach where therapist is available before and after hours to help both family and or client with tough situations. It also helped that the team did not isolate the family members, they focused not just on the clients but also the family as a unit. Families are involved each step during the journey. I highly recommend Embark when more help is needed outside of regular therapy.
