About Genesis House

The Genesis house in Seattle, Washington, was an inpatient residential facility. Most residents were low income or had no income. Because the facility had more than 16 beds it was only available for funding on DSHS contracts and state generated money. Economic shifts caused the facility to close.

The Genesis house was a campus built from the foundations of large homes and a coach house. It was transformed into dormitories, offices, and a state-licensed day care. Residential addiction treatment was integrated with therapeutic childcare, parenting classes, and gender specific group therapy.

A Focus on Families

The house allowed women to stay with their children during residency. Six-month treatment services were offered to adults and children. Childcare was available for children 12 years of age and younger. The house worked with state children’s services to reunite clients with their children who had been removed from the home.
