Biggest joke of a “recoveryl” center ever. They place you in this Decrepit room that has a tv that you cannot use only only on Friday and Saturday they call it “probation” it’s a way to mentally break you down you can not leave the room without someone getting you first for this half ass shitty food. They told me I wasn’t a good fit and when asked why they told me they didn’t have to give me a reason why I asked twice and they said it’s not gonna work out Cult much ? Place is a total dump

Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like you were frustrated and disappointed. We agree it's been a bit of a mess the past couple of weeks due to major renovations going on, inside and out! Living life in a new way is not often easy - but always worth it. Our intake period is intentionally designed to provide a quiet and reflective space for new participants to adjust to the expectations and responsibilities of our community. While we understand that it can feel restrictive at first, it serves a meaningful purpose in building trust, accountability, and readiness for long-term recovery. As a donor-funded program, we are very mindful of resources and available space, which means we are unable to accept everybody into our program.
We sincerely wish you the best on your recovery journey.

Let someone walk out that is now a missing person. He doesn't even have his phone. Fix your structure or close down! You don't get to act high and mighty and you can't let someone go when they are physically not able to caring for themselves. He was transfered to you for a reason.

Hi Chelsie,
This sounds like a scary situation for you and your family. To ensure the privacy and safety of our program participants, Guiding Light participants have the option to sign a Release of Information, allowing us to communicate with designated providers or loved ones should they choose. Participants are free to leave the premises at any time, and we are not legally permitted to prevent them from doing so. We sincerely hope your family is able to locate your loved one.

Tried to get help for a family member who just got out of rehab and the intake specialist told us they could come in then I get a call from the manager saying no, be up front or don’t get peoples hopes up. Overall the workers there don’t seem to show any compassion for those trying to face their addictions and get help.

Hi Cesar - Guiding Light is an intensive recovery program that addresses issues beyond abstaining from drugs and alcohol. As a non-profit and 100% donor-funded ministry with limited space and resources, we are not able to accept all individuals seeking treatment into our Guiding Light Recovery program. We wish your family member the best in their recovery journey.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.

Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

This rehab doesn’t sugarcoat recovery, it’s intense, honest, and exactly what I needed to rebuild my life. They taught me accountability, discipline, and self-worth. If you’re ready to change, this is where it happens. Tough love, real support and lasting results. This was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but also the best. The program challenged me mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.... Exactly what I needed to break old patterns and live life a new way. Clean and sober since Feb 25, 2025
