About Harsha Behavioral Center

Inpatient programs are typically designed to be the most intense level of care available. They often provide long term care for those with severe symptoms. However, the average stay at Harsha Behavioral Center is five to 10 days.

Why the difference? While they provide the same treatment methods as similar facilities, they operate on a shorter timetable. Their goal is to help you achieve stabilization so you can continue on to an outpatient program sooner. That way, you won’t have other areas of your life such as work or school hindered by a lengthy stay. I like this approach because it gets you back to your daily living sooner. But it’s not a fit for everyone, and if your symptoms warrant a lengthy stay you may be referred to another program.

I would like to take the time to speak with you and go over your concerns. I would be happy to talk with you and answer any questions you have. We do not immediately bill for a patients stay, and payment or non payment of any bill would not affect a patients treatment, so I would like to get some more information . I can be reached @ 812-231-5240. Thank you.

It has been about two years since I have gone here and I now suffer from PTSD. I had attempted to take my life and failed and was told at Union that they would call Cps on my mother if I did not go to Harsha. Once I had got there my roommate molested me and I luckily had my room changed but was still being harassed by that patient that touched me, and nobody did anything. They didn’t clean my self harm wounds when I asked, they didn’t give medicine like I asked, and they didn’t give me a therapist to talk to when I asked. They would take my blood while I was asleep, and I still have night terrors to this day about seeing people in my bedroom. Techs would make fun of me for being “too normal” which made all my feelings of depression feel completely invalid. There was this girl who would beat people up and she literally got royalty treatment by the staff and the rest of us got treated like dirt which I find odd. A week after my visit I got MRSA and I completely blame Harsha because you did not take care of 17 year old me like you were supposed to. You guys are sincerely disgraceful. Do not send your child here unless you want them to be traumatized for life, I think about this place almost everyday.

Harsha Behavioral Center provided exceptional care for my son during his first-ever inpatient stay, and we are deeply grateful for the support we received. My son is on the autism spectrum, and Harsha’s child psychiatrist, Dr. Hinshaw, understood his needs from day one. They made thoughtful medication adjustments that genuinely helped him stabilize, and they approached him with patience, structure, and compassion. He told us more than once that Harsha “felt like a healing place,” which meant everything to us as parents. He participated in daily coping-skills groups, gym time, and arts-and-crafts therapy, all of which helped him express himself and learn healthier ways to manage difficult emotions. The progress he made in just a short time was remarkable. I also want to highlight the therapist we worked with, Julia, who helped us create a personalized electronics plan to reset expectations at home. Coming from an “all-access, all-the-time” approach to screens, her guidance gave us a clear, practical roadmap we could actually follow, and my son is already practicing what he learned. Every staff member we interacted with was kind, professional, and truly invested in helping him succeed. We left not only with a more stable and confident child, but with tools and routines that will help us support him long after discharge. I highly recommend Harsha Behavioral Center for Hoosier families seeking compassionate, autism-informed behavioral health care.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

For long-term recovery from drug addiction, drug rehab in Indiana is often key. This treatment gives individuals who are struggling with a substance use disorder the tools to manage their disorder and achieve long-term sobriety.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Recreational therapy integrates structured activities into a holistic treatment program to help promote your physical and mental health and well being. You might engage in sports, creative arts, or outdoor adventures as a positive outlet for your stress and emotions. This helps you develop new interests and build a supportive network that helps you maintain long term sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

My son was there for about 6 days on Friday my son cashed me and says mom the guy with the black shirt had me in the floor he pinched my skin so I could walk, he strap me in the chair for a long time so I could calm my self and mock me because of me breathing heavily( my son has asthma ) When I get there to pick him up he says the same thing I ask is they know the name of the person no body knows. Also I sent him with 3 pairs of pants 3 tshirts 1 sweater 5 pair of under clothe. And they say he didn't have anything like that only cane back with a pair of pants that he had on and said we can't find it. I can't believe they can't find his belongings and they only did inventory of what they wanted to, because he never got his clothe until Saturday night or Sunday morning
