As somebody who has worked there for a long time. This is the honest truth. I advise not working here for the sake of your own mental health. Don’t listen to this as a disgruntled employee. Listen to this review as somebody who cares about patients and their community….. 1. Maple Heights is a power and money driven facility that does not care about patients. Only about money. They will send extra staff home, keep the units bare bones for staffing to save money, and admit patients that the facility cannot provide adequate care for but because patients bring money, MH will put staff in danger and sacrifice to make money. 2. The facility does not have cameras or security. Physical holds are frequent and you better hope you’re in shape because you will be holding patients down and some physical holds are extremely dangerous. 3. Keep your head down. The moment you make a mistake, maple heights will utilize their “at will” employment powers and fire you. The HR director has personal friends in the facility that will spy on your actions and report to HR to build a case. HR also has asked BHTs about their personal relationships including intimate details. HR has no clue about policy and will not help you when it comes to benefits, questions, or concerns about your employment. HR is supposed to be there to protect employees but unfortunately discrimination and unjust practices are prevalent. 4. Just know you will be short staff. Maple heights operates on a staffing grid. 1-12 patients for nurse ratio. When you exceed 12 patients, you get another nurse. This isn’t always the case as staff call off at an egregious rate and a lot of the time you will be running 1 nurse and 1 BHT for 19+ patients. You will be overwhelmed and you will be burned out. 5. Maple Heights cut their current provider group due to maple heights wanting their providers to medicate with heavy meds instead of helping patients but also MH were making medical decisions and going to different providers in that group until they found one to do what they say. You will be sedating and holding patients down sometimes against their own will. 6. Maple heights is a 120 bed facility. They have been open for three years and have not gone over 60 patients more than twice. The turnover rate is one of the highest in Acadia for a reason. They don’t care about you. 7. Benefits are unbelievably horrible. 2-3 hours of PTO a check which means that you will have to work 12 months to get 6 days off. In an extreme high stress environment, you need more days off and you will not be provided that. Medical insurance, dental, and all other insurance are high deductibles and are not feasible. 8. Leadership is awful. Look at the open positions: CEO, CNO, Nurse Educator, etc. Why would you want to work for a facility that cannot keep strong leaders for more than 6 months? In three years, MH has had 3 CEOs, 4 Nurse managers, 3 CNOs, 2 CFOs, and 2 Directors of Admissions. Read between the lines, there’s a reason why. 9. Raises? Nonexistent. You get an annual raise with a MAX upgrade to a whopping 5% and that’s all you will get for an entire year. Don’t try advocating for more money either. HR will go out of their way to ensure that you do not get a raise. HR has advocated against raises and paying employees more in several instances. 10. Last but not least. Temp nurses and shift key. Maple heights is utilizing temp nurses that get paid $60 an hour. So just consider this when applying for a full time position that temp nurses will be making a lot more than you do. Also, if you do apply to be a temp nurse, just know after your contract they will not match or come close to your pay after that temp contract is up so just consider. Also, MH utilizes shift key for their shifts because they cannot fill holes in schedules due to lack of employees. Shift keys also make double than what you will be making. So, understand that MH would rather contract out than pay their front line staff. There are other places that will appreciate you. This is not one of them.

Maple Heights Behavioral Health & Addiction Treatment works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

Inpatient rehab provides intensive, round-the-clock care and is designed primarily for clients who have just completed detox, those in early recovery, and those at an increased risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment typically includes extensive psychotherapy that draws on various modalities like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing. Clients also learn the recovery-focused life skills needed to promote sustained recovery. Many inpatient drug rehabs also offer evidence-based holistic therapies like meditation, yoga, massage, and experiential therapy.

Persons who require high-level support but who do not wish to leave their homes or communities may enroll in an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Clients typically commit to a minimum of nine treatment hours across three therapeutic sessions per week, but many programs offer up to 20 hours of care weekly. Most intensive outpatient rehabs provide a combination of psychotherapy, recovery education, and holistic care. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is widely available for those in alcohol or opioid recovery.

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) can provide intensive rehab on a short-term basis. While PHP treatment typically requires a commute, telehealth may be available. PHP treatment costs can vary but are often covered by most insurance. The program duration can vary to meet your specific needs and require you to meet for a minimum of 20 hours a week for an average of 90 days. PHP Treatment services often include relapse prevention strategies, medication management, individual and group counseling, and other behavioral therapy interventions.

I recently completed a stay here. The staff are very understanding and do their best to support you with the resources they have. I felt I was able to ask questions and advocate for myself and be heard. The psych docs, general docs, social workers, and techs truly care about their patients (at least, 300 Hall Adults they do). The food was delicious and my gluten free, dairy free diet was accommodated for. Thank you to Chris for being so kind to me during the confusion of admissions, ambulizzle rides, ER, and back to the hospital/unit. Thank you to Taylor my social worker, Dr. Pati and Dr. Ibitayo (sorry if it's spelled wrong!), and to George the general doctor. As far as techs, thank you to Vanessa, Josh, Johnathan, and everyone else whose name I can't remember! I want to add a special thank you to Jacob for talking with me on my last day about some of my reasons for admission. I appreciate it so much 🙏🏻. Thank you Maple Heights for being a part of my mental health recovery! 💕 Edit: I have been here a few more times and I'd like to additionally thank Cora, Dr. Kerry, Dr. Hnin, Josiah, Preslee, Vincent, Jake, and Jay. I do believe side 400 was better than 300 so it's a shame that side closed, but this is overall the best hospital I've been to out of 4 or 5 other psych hospitals and 14 admissions across them (4 here).
