This place is the worst counseling center beware if you are a woman of color. DR Renata is prejudice and I honestly believe she is a racist . All was well until I began having difficulty with my therapists and reported the issues the director . Once DR Renata became aware of this she then pushed that I was angry perpetuating the angry black woman stereotype. I never threatened any one or cursed anyone I only spoke about the harmful things the therapist did and ask for new therapist. As soon as I reported the therapists DR Renata prescribed me schizophrenia medication when I am not schizophrenic. If you report issues and advocate for yourself you are instantly gaslighted anf if your black they can t stand that you have a voice and advocate.I had a meeting with the CEO and director and they told me to speak to DR Renata that she is understanding. I did as they instructed and she wanted no part of me talking about why she would give me that medication and why she continues to call me angry. I explained the stereotypes I had to live with. She cut me off , became defensive , denied things she said to me , and told me she only talks clinical not about what I m talking about. Race matters if you are bringing your bias into your practice. I ve been insulted so many times and treated so terrible. They made my depression worse if you are a black woman run do not come here !

Ngl I used to go here for counseling services pre pandemic (2011-2013) and had no problem whatsoever. My brother used to go here too right until the pandemic hit as well. I understand we now live in a post pandemic world where things are different. This place was the first place I thought of as it s near me as I wanted to heal and get better. They wanted hefty fees for intake, psych evaluations, and weekly visits only to be put on a waitlist list for 2-3 weeks and when they match you with a therapist it s remote. For the money they want you to invest in you should get the full experience. But yeah, there are people who want to get better NOW and start their journey as soon as possible and their way of conducting business is just not it. Do yourself a favor and go to talk space

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Been going to the place since the late 90’s. I honestly had no problem until recently. Seems like all the therapists say 2-3 years and then leave. I was seeing one doctor here. They have no in person appointment and everything must be via zoom. I was in a bad depression about 3 months ago and told the doctor that I wanted to “end my life “. Instead of increasing my medication she gave me a med that wasn’t even covered under the insurance. Since everything was via zoom, I’ll admit I missed appointments (was having trouble with the internet or at the doctor). Now they came up with some new policy that if you miss a certain amount of appointments, you get kicked out. Yesterday was suspose yo me my last appointment with the doctor. No one bothered calling me. I guess seeing it was my last appointment she just felt like not coming. Not to forget they give you an appointment time and they’re always late (15 minutes or more). It was very insulting that they refused to keep me as a patient and called me a “problem “. Best thing is to find another place.

I had a very troubling experience with them. The director Dennis Scimone refused to speak with me. I have been treated so disrespectfully here and cannot get in touch with anyone in administration willing to work with me. The are Very unprofessional and in general not supportive of people at all. I think they forgot that they are dealing with people that have actual crisis. This is a factory. I would be willing to talk to anyone from NCC to discuss this. They have behaved in a manner that is very unethical. If no one responds I wouldn t be surprised, that would be totally on brand.

I am deeply grateful for the incredible support and guidance I’ve received from Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Slowik at NCC. Their expertise, compassion, and dedication have been instrumental in my journey towards mental wellness. From the moment I stepped into their office, I felt heard and understood. They created a safe and nonjudgmental space where I could openly discuss my thoughts and emotions. Their ability to listen attentively and offer insightful perspectives truly made a difference in my healing process. Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Slowik possess a wealth of knowledge and experience in psychiatry, and their treatment approaches were tailored to my individual needs. They patiently worked with me to explore various therapeutic techniques and medication options, always prioritizing my well-being and comfort. Beyond their professional expertise, Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Slowik showed genuine care and empathy towards me as their patient. Their unwavering support and encouragement gave me the strength to confront challenges and make positive changes in my life. I am truly thankful for their presence at NCC. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone seeking exceptional psychiatric care. <3

Worst place ever! The therapists don't allow you to talk about anything on your mind. They are very selfish. Their was one therapist I was working with and I didn't get to talk at first. They were to busy talking about themselves. I thought I could talk about anything that was on my mind but they said, I didn't see that on your record. What record? Therapy should be all about you and not about the therapist. The therapists here decide on what they want to help you with. That's not right. I do not recommend this place for therapy.

Absolutely awful and a complete waste of time! I called and spoke to the director Dr.Shore and told him exactly what I needed from his office, he assured me that his office was able to comply. I trusted him at his word however after having an appointment after waiting two months I get a phone call today from Dr.Shore not only backtracking and saying that he cannot comply but that he was unwilling to write a letter to that effect, leaving me high and dry and on my own. Thankfully I was smart enough to get a letter stating that I did appear for the first appointment with the date on it! Do not go here, this place will completely waste your time, they are only interested in a patient head count and gaining money. Dr.Shore cannot be trusted as a director at his word. In addition they only offer you their “cousenling services” if you go to thier doctor and shove medication 💊 in your mouth!!! Sad but completely true! So they are ZERO help people who get or are looking for counseling do not always need meds!

This place really is wonderful I know before coming here the intake department told me I had to see a psychiatrist to get talk therapy here but it’s worth it the therapists here are so nice and patient and the intake department got to know a lot about me and helped me through the registration process. I came here from revived soul medical p.c on 1329 east 17th street. I was seeing a psychiatrist there but they had a long wait list for psychotherapy so I gave this place a try. I was super nervous about starting therapy but after just a few sessions I see improvement already.I’m very grateful for this place my friend shayna referred me here because she used to be a patient here when she lived in Brooklyn years ago. If you are serious about getting help definitely give them a call you won’t regret it they have been nothing but good to me here and took me seriously and treated me with respect. Good for telehealth too if you like zoom sessions from the comfort of your own home if you don’t want to come in person. Thank you neighborhood counseling
