I was in Charlotte on vacation and got urgently sick. I came here for help and from the moment I walked into the ER I was mistreated. The police questioned me several times while I was waiting to be seen. Every time I got up to either use the bathroom, grab a tissue, a mask, inquire about the wait time, the police jumped and followed me until I got back to my seat. I at first shrugged it off to the area assuming the possibility of this location unfortunately getting some traffic in the ER that behaves disorderedly. I was called to the back to have blood work done. I was physically pushed into a blood draw room. The room had boxes on the chairs, one chair was broken, blood and what appeared to be feces was smeared on the floors, walls, and chairs, and medical supplies were thrown about in the room. I stood in the middle of the room until someone came in. Someone did and she literally shoved me with her shoulders out of her way from behind me and stood behind a computer and started typing. I had no clue if she was the one that was going to draw my blood or if she was just in a room to gather things. Five minutes later she shouts out "NAME!". I didn't know what she was referring to. She screamed again "YOUR NAME. YOU CAN'T HEAR ME?" I gave it to her, and she shouts, "I CAN'T HEAR YOU AND I'M NOT GONNA ASK YOU AGAIN." I then went to another room where I waited for a provider. The provider came in and kept asking me if I had ever been on pain or psychotropic medicine. He asked in different ways. I said no multiple times. I was finally treated for my emergency and my discharge paper had allergies to medicine that I didn't list nor indicate I was allergic to. The providers from the moment I walked in labeled me as some person trying to get drugs which interrupted the level of care provided to me. They labeled things as allergies in my chart seemingly in some attempt to avoid prescribing them to me, which is alarming if an event would have arose where I needed them. I've reached out to a patient advocate regarding this matter and just like other healthcare facilities, a patient advocate protects hospitals from litigation and do not actually advocate for the patient. If you have an emergency, you're better off risking the drive to another location. When I told staff that work for NH in another area of my treatment, they said they lived in Charlotte and would never go here. One lady told me that her NH provider even told her to avoid this place and drive a little further for better service/treatment. I wish I had this information prior. This place felt more like a prison than a healthcare facility.

This place is terrible, Everything is according to cookie cutter approach your concerns do not matter. Everything is according to Insurance & hospital protocol. It doesn't matter if your situation or your care is different. The staff unfortunately are rude, and do not care or treat you with respect, or any kind of dignity. They don't listen or care about your needs. The food is nasty, and staff has a real condescending attitude. Like they are doing you a favor. I am really considering going to another hospital, because this is not the first time. Unfortunately I have an illness that need hospital care, and the care I'm getting here has declined significantly. To the point that I don't even want to come here, when I need hospital care.

Accepted Insurance

Novant Behavioral Health works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

worst hospital i’ve ever been to. my patient notes just say that im upset. they also lie about who i was ovulated by. I had a 3 day day and for 24 hours I had not seen a nurse or dr. Was admitted for hypotension to the stroke floor. they didn’t come when i hit the nurse button. and they let me walk around with a fall risk bracelet on ignoring me completely. also i had to walk on my own to the bathroom because no one would help me. when i was discharged the admitted me staying an extra night was of mistake. just go to atrium down the road it’s way better

UPDATE: filed a complaint with the hospital and of course the staff is always right. The patient doesn’t matter. The mistreatment of the patient doesn’t matter. They will ALWAYS side with their staff. They didn’t even address really any of remarks that we made. Hope this review deters you from going to the specific hospital. I had to go to the ED for seizure like activities with some episodes lasting 35 minutes. They lied on my after care summary visit notes, They claimed I saw OT and PT due to my lack of function from having seizure like activities and I never saw them. One of the doctors, created an aftercare note when I never even saw him. There was so much incorrect information based off of the information provided from my mother as at the time I was completely impaired and unfortunately do not recall any of my time at the hospital. They claimed that i had no nausea and vomiting during my visit but one of the seizure like episodes I started vomiting on myself and was still in the episode. My mom called multiple times for a nurse and they never came. They also left me in VOMIT COVERED SHEETS for roughly ONE HOUR. They said I was mobile and able to be discharged mean while I couldn’t walk at all. They said I drink 1 to 2 alcoholic beverages a week and that is a LIE. I drink maybe that much a month! I occasionally drink. In the note my neurologist received they claimed that I refused treatment and asked to be discharged which was another lie. My entire notes were almost completely lies. I will not be going back here after the poor care I received and the biggest issue is the LYING! I hope this review will help others in the future. You would think after so many negative reviews they would take a look at themselves and try to FIX the issue but clearly they do not care.

After a major surgery the post staff sucks. Their rude, condacening and don't care. Dr told me my wife was in recovery and would come get me in about 30 min after 3 hrs I just went to the room and they were pushing her out for discharge. They expect the person to go threw recovery by themselves. Stupid policy not to mention I had her cloths. No one wishes to help or listen to your concerns I guess as long as the cash register is ringing who cares. Terrible place.

I witnessed my cousin that was being treated at this facility. She had almost committed suicide. They were blaring MTV videos, wouldn't give her the clothing or anything I supplied her, there was a lot of secrecy going on here and I think after everything that's happened.. especially CEOs of hospitals being killed at point blank by the individuals that are sick and tired of institutions like this preying on the weak... well I come from a family of very powerful people and they better watch where they step. That isn't a threat, but a warning and a promise combined.

I cannot say enough about the amazing care I received at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. From the time I checked into the ER until my release, four days later, the staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and compassionate. They even checked on my family to ensure they were doing okay. I was in the stroke unit, had CT, MRI, and brief stay in PACU…everyone was truly phenomenal!

Had a great experience in the Presbyterian Medical Center, maternity ward. As a first time mom I had no idea what to expect and was treated with compassion and empathy. The nurses and doctors from triage, to labor&delivery, to post partum were attentive, informative, helpful and caring. The lactation team provided tremendous support. Even the housekeeping department came to check in on us and provided stellar service. Special shout-out to: - Lacey and Nicole in Labor & Delivery - Lisa in Postpartum I felt treated as a person and not just another patient. Thank you to all of the staff members in Maternity who took such great care of me, my husband and our newest addition to the family!
