About Tim Bracaglia Counseling

Tim Bracaglia Counseling is an LGBTQ+ friendly practice in Montclair, New Jersey that treats young adults and adults with substance use and mental health disorders. Many of their clients come from creative spaces, like musicians, artists and performers who value open, thoughtful support.

Licensed Care for Substance Use

They offer flexible therapy options through in person sessions at their office, remote telehealth appointments or in home visits within a 10 mile radius of the office, which I think is really helpful. All services are provided on an outpatient basis, and they are licensed clinical drug and alcohol counselors.

They take a practical approach to substance use treatment that blends thinking patterns and behavior changes with education about how substances affect you. At the same time, they help you dig into what’s going on underneath, the issues that might be fueling the substance use in the first place.

A Flexible Approach to Recovery

They use a mix of different approaches, like CBT, motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, DBT and cognitive analytical therapy. Family can also be included if it makes sense for your situation. They take a patient centered approach, letting each person move at a pace that feels right for them.

I was glad to see that they also work with people dealing with anxiety, stress, depression and sexuality related struggles, including support around coming out or transitioning.

Therapy That Adapts as Life Changes

Many clients say Tim Bracaglia is the best therapist they’ve ever worked with, especially praising his understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and his ability to adapt therapy as needs change. One client said, “Tim is non-judgmental, down-to-earth and really creates an environment that feels safe and comfortable.”

Clients describe their sessions as supportive, practical and genuinely life-changing, leaving them feeling seen, understood and equipped to manage life outside therapy.

I have been a client of Tim’s for upwards of four years, and since I began working with him, he has never failed to meet or exceed my expectations. We have made significant progress toward reaching my treatment plan goals, and he is earnest in keeping me on track and providing a comfortable environment to communicate what I’m feeling. Out of all of the therapists I’ve had over the past ten years, Tim has been the best fit for me, and I’m sure he would be an excellent fit for almost anyone.

Tim Bracaglia Counseling works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient rehabs enable clients to receive a full continuum of care while continuing to live at home. They're often ideal for clients who are stepping down from inpatient care but some clients may prefer to transition into outpatient treatment immediately after completing detox. Many outpatient facilities also offer ambulatory medical detox for low-risk clients. Outpatient treatment generally includes psychotherapy and life skills training. Clients in opioid and/or alcohol recovery may also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Treatments

You can find comprehensive substance abuse treatment in New Jersey in drug and alcohol rehabs. These treatment programs typically provide a full continuum of care including medically assisted detox, inpatient, outpatient, dual-diagnosis, and intensive outpatient. With a comprehensive substance abuse evaluation, addiction experts provide individualized treatment plans to meet your specific needs. These programs address substance use disorders using evidence-based therapies, like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), individual and family counseling, and recovery support groups.

Programs

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in New Jersey typically follows a set structure of treatment. The therapist helps clients identify their life challenges and their thoughts surrounding those challenges. The client then learns to identify unhealthy thought patterns and reshape those into healthy patterns of thinking and behavior.

Dialectical means opposing. The premise of dialectical behavior therapy is to learn how two things that seem to be opposite can actually be true. You learn how to accept yourself while also making changes. The focus is on accepting your emotions and changing how you manage them.

Motivational interviewing helps clients find their motivation to change. It can be an effective method to work with clients who are angry or hostile or feel insecure about their ability to make changes in their lives. It is often used during addiction treatment or to manage physical health conditions.
