If your primary care doctor refers you to this place, ask to go somewhere else. I had been going there for a few months. Finally got my BPD under control, but no help with my anxiety. Doctor Adam Cooper is an awful doctor. First off you talk to him through a computer screen, he doesn't make eye contact and always is looking off to the side. I tell him the meds arent doing anything for my anxiety and he would always say "give it a few more weeks". Then prescribed me a medication I DON'T like taking "to help my anxiety" because it does nothing for me. So what does he do? Ups the dosage like that's going to magically fix it. I wasn't able to make it to my last two appointments so it had been 2 months since I last saw him. I called several times over 2 weeks to get him to put refills through on my meds. Mind you, he told me more than once to not abruptly stop these meds because of the withdrawal symptoms. I never heard anything back and ran out of meds. My pharmacy was kind enough to give me a curiosity refill for 2 weeks. I then called back to the office asking for me refills, was told by my case manager that she would put it through to the nurse and get it sent over. 4 days later nothing, so I called AGAIN and spoke to Will at the front desk. He proceeds to tell me Adam wont fill them because he hasn't seen me in the two months. Then goes on to tell me he cant see me for THREE WEEKS. I had two days worth of medication left. I was told "I dont know what to tell you, you can call Monday and hope there's a cancelation". Also just to add, Dr Cooper is only there on Mondays which doesn't always work for my schedule. I was in a panick because I've run out of these meds before and it made me feel HORRIBLE, and I didn't want to go through that again. I immediately called my PC and got an appointment with her the following day. Even she said he doesn't need to see me monthly to fill the meds. She then refilled my meds for 6 months AND gave me a refill. I dont know if the mental health place works differently because they're state funded? But they are a horrible establishment and I will NEVER step foot in there again. They need better doctors who you can see IN PERSON. If I could give no stars I would. Horrendous.

The owner, Cooper, is the reason I will never ask anyone for help with my mental health again. He made me physically ill and mentally distressed, for six months, along with costing me hundreds of dollars. I brought him my last doctor's paperwork, which clearly states I have extreme anxiety and PTSD, resulting from the death of my girlfriend. He lied to me and said he was treating my anxiety and PTSD with medication, but secretly prescribing me medication for some obscure diagnosis he THINKS I MIGHT have. I didn't know what he was doing until one of the medications he prescribed me made me so high and aggressive, I violently attacked someone. I informed him about this and he said he wanted me to take the medication for another whole month. I told him that's not possible, it makes me so high I get physically ill and act out violently. He called me a drug addict and put in my permanent file that I was just seeking specific drugs from him. Now I can't even go to another doctor for the help I need, and have to explain this to my parole officer. Oh yeah, the guy writing this review is a violent convicted felon out on parole, who can no longer get help with his rapidly declining mental health. Thanks Cooper.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. Services include individual, couples, family and group therapy. Outpatient treatment services address mental health conditions, addiction and co-occurring disorders. These services are available at each location throughout VBHCS.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients in intensive outpatient programs (IOP) receive robust, personalized care to support their reintegration into their community. Clients stepping down from inpatient treatment frequently enroll in IOP before entering standard outpatient care or community-based recovery programs, such as AA. Intensive outpatient treatment generally involves between nine and 20 therapeutic hours weekly, with the frequency and duration of sessions decreasing as clients stabilize. IOP services commonly include counseling, recovery education, holistic therapies, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Addiction Recovery Program provides recovery-oriented support for individuals with addiction or co-occurring disorders. Services include individual and group formats for relapse prevention and recovery skills development.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
