About A Safe Haven – North Damen Avenue
A Safe Haven is a community organization located in Chicago, Illinois, that strives to help people with the following issues: domestic/gender-based violence, substance use, mental health, unemployment, criminal justice involvement, and homelessness. They are LGBTQIA+ friendly and accept individuals in all walks of life regardless of age, race, religion, and income.
They offer access to behavioral health services in-person or via telehealth. With these services, you’ll be provided care by psychologists and therapists to address your needs. In regard to substance use services, they follow the 12 Step model and use various forms of treatment for mental health issues.
They have a career and education training program that will help you get set up with success. They have the Continuum of Care programs which allows people to earn a high school diploma and a certification in culinary arts and welding faster so they can enter the workforce sooner.
They also provide access to housing options. If you are in need of transitional housing, this is the place to go. They have a total of 406 beds available. Single men and women share same-sex rooms and families get their own room. To qualify for this, you’ll need to be on the verge of homelessness, or already homeless and cannot have any sex crimes, arson, or violent charges. They also have supportive housing, housing for seniors, and affordable housing. They also provide services specifically for veterans and their families such as access to housing, financial support, and community resources.
Something that I like about them is that if you are in need of additional help to access community resources, housing referrals, employment, education, physical and mental health services, you have the opportunity to get set up with individualized case management. They help provide connections to these services for adults and children.

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.
Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
