If you want your loved ones to get rehabilitation and therapy like they advertise do not send them here… my ex wife came back on the verge of relapsing cause they didn’t offer no therapy to treat the root cause of the addiction. They didn’t get her prescriptions ordered or schedule appointments like they said they would when she was discharged. This place is a bunch of bulls***. For the the money that was paid they did not do their job.. they failed as a rehabilitation facility.

This place is a mess, please do not let the luxury house setting fool you. After being dismissed from a different treatment center that put me on opioids, I sought out further treatment and landed upon this facility. During intake, I was told they could fill out my FMLA and Accommodations paperwork. Everything was going smooth, the technicians on staff were kind and welcoming, until it became time to meet with medical staff & therapists. First, I was told they could only complete my FMLA paperwork and not my reasonable accommodations paperwork- I was told by the nurse practitioner (No doctor or psychiatrist on staff, only nurse practitioner and nurses) that my accommodation paperwork for work-leave had to be completed by a special kind of doctor in the state of Texas, and they would not be able to fill it out. So, I decided to continue until 4/25, which was my original discharge date at the facility I was at prior. On 4/24, they did a random drug test. I was pulled out of classes and was told I tested for THC and I didn’t test for THC during my intake. Most people with a high school degree knows that THC stays in your system for a long time. Especially after chronic use. I had them call the detox place I was at a day prior to coming to Ava, and they confirmed over the phone that I had tested positive for THC then. Problem solved, right? Nope. My assigned therapist, Tammie Mcdonald, told my family member that was in contact with AVA that I had refused to meet with a psychiatrist… there wasn’t one. So I was confused as to why Tammie would lie to my family. Tammie also has little to zero clue as to what FMLA/ Reasonable Accommodations, etc. is, and she told my family that they could get all of that paperwork done for me and that I was just choosing to leave on 4/25 because I was ready to leave treatment. All of which was not true. After the drug test fiasco, I was told shortly after that clients had complaint about me “nodding off.” I recently had an increase in Seroquel medication, which can make you quite drowsy. I did doze off late night after my meds along with another client who frequently dozed off. Instead of having a consult about my medications and helping me find a better solution that didn’t cause such drowsiness, I was told I was being asked to leave a day early and that they were now unable to provide me a return to work letter. So here I am, unable to return to my job. I cannot even begin to express how unprofessional, rude, ignorant, and uneducated Tammie Mcdonald was. She constantly put off i take assessment & treatment plans, then told other staff that I refused to sign a treatment plan. I was never shown one , never knew about one, and definitely was never asked to sign anything. We could barely get to through the intake portion of things because Tammie lacked understanding of the questions she was asking & the concepts presented. In summary, this place is a false advertisement mess. Tammie (Tammara) Mcdonald is not even a licensed therapist in the state of Texas. They advertise that they offer “Medicated assisted therapy,” “EMDR and trauma therapy,” “Experiential Therapy,” and “Positive Psychotherapy,” which is all not true. They also advertise that they specialize in dual diagnosis, but were unable to assist in medication management or even initiate a discussion about medications used for PTSD, Anxiety, and Depression. They also advertise a 1:1 client to staff ratio, which is far from the truth as they are complete understaffed. They also advertise that they offer a medical detox, which is untrue. They send you to a place called Evoke Wellness in San Marcos that is a former psych hospital and it still looks like one and is ran like one. Lastly, they advertise that they have a chef onsite. That is not the truth, and meals were made by clients and technicians. Panda express and Pizza were ordered 2-3 times a week. PLEASE reconsider your choice in looking for a place for recovery. If you have no mental health or medical concerns, then you MIGHT enjoy this place.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Texas provides a safe environment for medical detox. This setting is crucial to provide medical care during withdrawal. Certain withdrawal symptoms can cause life-threatening conditions, but patients in a supervised clinical setting have treatment readily available to address any symptoms before they become severe. Treatment can also be provided for co-occurring physical and mental health issues.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs offer high-level care for clients as an increased risk of relapse, including those in early recovery, those with a strong history of relapse, and those experiencing a crisis. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in nine to 20 hours of care weekly, with treatment modalities that combine psychotherapy and recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and animal therapy. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is also common in alcohol and/or opioid recovery.
outpatient iconOutpatient
After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Ridding the body of harmful, addictive substances, also known as detoxification, is usually the first phase of recovery. Those going through medically assisted detox can be administered medications by a team of medical professionals who are on-site 24/7 to provide different types of therapies that help mitigate withdrawal symptoms.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.

Treatments

Alcoholism occurs when a person becomes physically and psychologically dependent on alcohol. Attending a professional alcohol rehab in Texas can provide customized intervention methods to address the physical, mental, and relational challenges of addiction.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

mental-health iconMental Health And Substance Abuse

Substance abuse treatment is available in Texas for anyone who's struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. These programs usually provide a comprehensive assessment and individualized treatment plan, and include evidence-based treatments, like therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to reframe unhelpful coping strategies, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help with emotional regulation and stress.

Texas's specialized dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs prioritize comprehensive care for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. These programs offer diverse levels of care, including outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization options. Evidence-based therapies, trauma-informed care, group work, and educational workshops help treat both conditions at the same time and give you the tools to sustain mental health and sobriety.

With a co-occurring drug or alcohol addiction and a mental health disorder, you'll want to seek out a dual diagnosis treatment center. These specialized rehabs offer services to address both conditions at the same time, including 24/7 access to medical and mental health professionals. By treating both disorders at the same time, it drastically increases your chances of successful long-term recovery.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Texas is to change thought patterns, which leads to changes in behavior. Specific techniques during CBT can include self talk, SMART goals, journaling, and positive activities.

Couples therapy helps couples learn to control emotions, trust each other, and communicate more effectively. It can be useful for short term intervention for a specific issue or for working on the relationship long term.

Creative arts therapy focuses on creative processes. You may engage in sculpting, dancing, improv, painting, or sketching. These creative outlets provide an opportunity to explore and express difficult emotions.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

medicare iconElectroconvulsive Therapy

Experiential therapy in Texas can look different for each person. You may engage in fitness activities, community service, culinary arts, or art therapy, for example. The goal is to provide a safe setting where you can interact with your environment and work through emotions and experiences with the help of that activity and the guidance of a therapist.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

The purpose of family therapy is to create a supportive and understanding family dynamic within the family unit. Therapists help individual members to identify and change harmful behavior patterns and improve communication. This provides a stable foundation for the family and their loved one's recovery.

Individual therapy offers you a confidential space to address the complexities of your drug or alcohol addiction. Your therapist guides these personalized sessions to help develop self awareness and manage stress. This promotes sustained sobriety and overall well being.

Therapy sessions that incorporate motivational interviewing focus on OARS: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. This facilitates an exchange of information and an empowering of the client to decide for themselves what changes might need to be made in their lives.

Addiction recovery treatment in Texas will offer recreational therapy in a holistic approach to treatment. Therapy incorporates enjoyable activities that support your physical and mental health, such as team sports, creative arts, or individual sports. This activity gives you an emotional outlet, reduces your stress, and improves your mood, each of which promotes long term sobriety.

Together with an experienced trauma therapist, you work on healing emotional wounds from traumatic experiences within a trauma therapy environment. Your therapist will help you process the experience of the trauma, which promotes emotional healing and improves your overall mental health.

This is a good place. It's small but don't let that put you off. The house is beautiful and comfortable and mealtimes are at one big table like a family would have. I received good care there. I just wish they had a PHP program.

Ava was a truly life changing experience. Every single staff member brought something unique to the experience and showed such loving kindness. Also, I have Celiac disease and was able to eat incredible food, safely, thanks to chef Ben. Mind, body, spirit… all three were nourished at Ava. I am forever grateful for this place in my recovery.

The staff and programming at Ava make it a truly unique and a valuable place to get help or send a love one to. Being a woman in long term recovery and working in treatment for these past 5 years finding places that offer a level of care as remarkable as Ava isn’t always an easy feat. I would recommend this facility to any loved one or person who is struggling.

I was Ava's first client back in 2022. The experience was nothing short of incredible. From the minute I walked in, I felt at home and never felt institutionalized. I learned to love myself and put my needs before others. I always assumed I would grow out of my addiction but when I was almost 40, and things were only getting worse, I decided to check into treatment. Life changed for me there. I honestly feel like I would be dead by now if I hadn't gone. Almost everything I learned resonated with me and I use most tools to this day. I was never a morning person but now mornings are my favorite part of the day. I wake up grateful and so fortunate to be able to raise my child as a sober person. I owe Ava and their staff everything. They treated me with love and compassion from day one & I am forever grateful to Casey for opening such a magical place. Ava is family now and that house is my happy place. The worst part about Ava was leaving. It was truly one of the best experiences of my life. If you or a loved one needs help, call them, it will change their life.

Amazing facility, a couple really incredible therapists & counselors BUT their policies definitely cater to those who have money over those who don't unfortunately. I was also assaulted by a male staff member who worked night shift. I know sometimes employees hands are tied due to "policies" & fine print I guess but I definitely feel that I wasn't treated fairly than once I left I was sent home with zero medication due to an oversight/"miscommunication". My first day home I spent 26hrs without Subutex & had to scramble to find it on my own. Something I don't understand how professionals, who do this every day, could allow to happen. I have never felt so let down or betrayed or just flat out forgotten in my whole life. (This isn't my account Im posting under for privacy purposes but my name is not Walter & I'm not a male, Im a very small female)
